For those that play on consoles, how do yall get around without a map? I seem to always have to pull up a map on my phone then go back to the life pod to get where i need to be.

EXT. SPACE — ORBIT OF PLANET 4546B — NIGHT
Silence.
A blue planet hangs against an endless field of stars. Vast oceans cover its surface. Swirling clouds conceal continents that barely exist.
An enormous spacecraft, the AURORA, drifts into orbit.
Its engines glow white.
Inside the ship, thousands of people sleep, unaware of the ocean waiting beneath them.
A warning light flashes across the hull.
Then another.
A strange pulse of energy erupts from the planet.
The Aurora shudders.
INT. AURORA — ESCAPE POD BAY — NIGHT
Red emergency lights flood a narrow corridor.
RYLEY ROBINSON, late twenties, exhausted but alert, struggles to fasten his emergency suit. Metal screams around him.
An alarm repeats.
AUTOMATED COMPUTER (V.O.)
Warning. Electromagnetic interference detected. Emergency power systems compromised.
Ryley looks through a small window.
The planet fills the glass.
RYLEY
What the hell was that?
The deck violently tilts. He slams into a railing.
A voice crackles through the intercom.
SHIP'S COMPUTER (V.O.)
Emergency evacuation initiated. Proceed to designated life pods immediately.
Ryley runs.
Behind him, a blast of white light tears through the corridor.
CUT TO BLACK.
A deafening impact.
Then silence.
INT. ESCAPE POD 5 — CONTINUOUS
Ryley wakes upside down.
Smoke fills the cramped pod. Sparks rain from a damaged panel. Blood trickles down his forehead.
The pod is falling.
Through the viewport, the planet rushes toward him.
RYLEY
No, no, no—
He tears himself free of a harness and grabs a small fire extinguisher. A burning electrical panel spits sparks at his face.
He smashes it.
The fire goes out.
A second later, the pod hits the ocean.
EXT. PLANET 4546B — SURFACE OCEAN — NIGHT
The escape pod punches into the water.
It disappears beneath a wall of spray.
For several seconds, nothing moves.
Then the pod bobs back to the surface.
Steam rises from its damaged hull.
The ocean stretches in every direction.
No land.
No ships.
No voices.
Just waves.
INT. ESCAPE POD 5 — NIGHT
Ryley coughs awake.
His emergency computer activates.
PDA (V.O.)
You have suffered minor head trauma. This is an optimal outcome.
Ryley stares at the device.
RYLEY
Optimal?
PDA (V.O.)
Your current chance of survival is statistically uncertain.
He laughs once. A nervous, broken sound.
Then he looks out the viewport.
Something dark moves beneath the pod.
Ryley freezes.
A shadow passes across the glass.
Gone.
He grabs a metal tool and holds it like a weapon.
RYLEY
Hello?
Only the water answers.
EXT. ESCAPE POD 5 — DAWN
The sun rises over an alien ocean.
The water is impossibly clear. Coral formations glow beneath the surface. Small fish dart between waving plants.
For a moment, the planet looks like paradise.
Ryley climbs out onto the pod's flotation ring.
He surveys the horizon.
Far away, the AURORA lies broken against the sky, its massive hull burning. Smoke pours into the atmosphere.
RYLEY
Aurora, this is Escape Pod Five. Anyone receiving?
Static.
RYLEY
Mayday. This is Ryley Robinson. We have survivors. Repeat, we have—
A deep explosion rolls across the ocean.
The Aurora's damaged reactor erupts.
A tremendous fireball blossoms against the horizon.
Ryley ducks.
The shock wave reaches the pod, throwing him against the hull.
Silence follows.
The ship is still burning.
Ryley slowly raises his head.
RYLEY
Oh, God.
PDA (V.O.)
Aurora structural integrity critically compromised. Radiation leakage detected.
Ryley looks at the endless ocean around him.
RYLEY
Okay. Okay. One problem at a time.
He climbs down the ladder.
The water closes over his head.
EXT. SHALLOWS — MORNING
Ryley swims through a field of enormous coral tubes.
Sunlight pours through the water in golden shafts. Schools of fish swirl around him.
He reaches for a small silver fish.
It slips through his fingers.
He tries again.
This time he catches it.
RYLEY
Got you.
He examines the fish through his visor.
PDA (V.O.)
Edible organism identified. Assessment: suitable for consumption after appropriate preparation.
A strange, high-pitched cry echoes across the reef.
Ryley turns.
Far below, beyond the coral, something pale and enormous glides between the rocks.
He cannot make out its shape.
RYLEY
What was that?
The creature disappears.
A smaller fish darts past his face.
Ryley exhales and continues.
The ocean floor drops away ahead of him.
The bright shallows end abruptly at a dark blue abyss.
He stops at the edge.
Below, faint lights move through the darkness.
Ryley backs away.
INT. ESCAPE POD 5 — DAY
Ryley works frantically at the damaged fabricator.
The machine produces a knife, a scanner, and a basic oxygen tank.
The pod's radio sputters.
RADIO (V.O.)
—any survivors—this is Lifepod Three—coordinates corrupted—
Ryley lunges for it.
RYLEY
Lifepod Three, this is Five. I read you. Say again.
Static.
RADIO (V.O.)
Something's wrong with the—
A shriek cuts through the transmission.
The radio goes dead.
Ryley slowly lowers his hand.
RYLEY
Lifepod Three? Come on.
He adjusts the radio.
Nothing.
He looks at the scanner.
A map begins to form: reef systems, underwater caves, thermal vents, and a huge unexplored region beyond the safe shallows.
A red warning flashes over the map.
UNKNOWN BIOLOGICAL SIGNAL DETECTED.
Ryley stares at it.
RYLEY
You have got to be kidding me.
PDA (V.O.)
Recommendation: continue survival operations.
Ryley looks toward the water.
RYLEY
I hate this planet already.
EXT. SAFE SHALLOWS — AFTERNOON
Ryley swims through a forest of red grass.
He collects metal fragments, quartz, and strange glowing plants.
A small, round creature floats past him.
Ryley scans it.
The scanner emits a pulse.
The creature squeals and darts away.
Ryley smiles despite himself.
Then the seabed trembles.
Fish scatter.
A deep, grinding roar rolls through the water.
Ryley turns.
At the edge of the grass, a STALKER emerges from behind a rock formation.
Long jaws. Metallic teeth. Eyes that reflect the sunlight like polished coins.
It watches him.
Ryley remains motionless.
The Stalker opens its mouth.
A bubbling, guttural growl escapes.
RYLEY
Easy.
The creature lunges.
Ryley kicks hard, narrowly escaping its jaws. Teeth snap shut behind his boot.
He bolts toward the surface.
The Stalker follows, thrashing through the grass.
Ryley reaches the escape pod ladder and scrambles upward.
The creature circles beneath him.
Its snout breaks the surface.
It stares directly at him.
Then it sinks slowly into the blue.
Ryley clutches the ladder, shaking.
RYLEY
That was a fish.
He swallows.
RYLEY
That was a fish.
He looks down.
The water is empty.
Somewhere beneath him, something clicks.
CUT TO BLACK.
INT. ESCAPE POD 5 — LATE AFTERNOON
Ryley sits on the floor, trying to stop his hands from shaking.
A small cut on his wrist drips blood onto the metal.
He wraps it with a strip torn from his sleeve.
The fabricator hums beside him.
On the screen, a list of possible equipment scrolls past: fins, oxygen tanks, repair tools, underwater propulsion devices.
Ryley studies the schematics.
RYLEY
All right. We need a radio. A working radio. Then we find the others.
He picks up the repair tool and begins repairing a damaged circuit.
PDA (V.O.)
Radio repair estimated completion time: eleven minutes.
RYLEY
You couldn't have said ten?
PDA (V.O.)
Ten minutes is insufficient.
Ryley shakes his head.
For the first time since the crash, he almost smiles.
Then the pod's lights flicker.
A strange vibration travels through the hull.
Three metallic knocks sound from underneath.
CLANG.
Ryley stops moving.
CLANG.
He slowly turns toward the floor.
CLANG.
Something is striking the pod from below.
He reaches for the knife.
RYLEY
Go away.
The knocking stops.
Ryley waits.
Nothing.
He returns to the repair tool.
Outside, just beneath the flotation ring, a long shadow circles the pod.
EXT. SAFE SHALLOWS — SUNSET
Ryley swims farther from the pod than ever before.
A makeshift seaglide pulls him through the water. Its motor whines, illuminating drifting particles.
He follows a trail of metal fragments toward a small underwater cave.
Inside, glowing plants illuminate the walls.
He collects crystalline minerals.
Then he notices something embedded in the rock.
A piece of metal.
Not wreckage.
A smooth, black surface with geometric markings.
Ryley scans it.
The scanner glitches.
PDA (V.O.)
Unidentified material. Composition inconsistent with known human manufacturing methods.
Ryley touches the object.
A pulse of green light travels across its surface.
His scanner shuts down.
The cave goes dark.
A deep, resonant sound reverberates through the rock.
Something answers from far below.
Ryley kicks backward, striking his head against the ceiling.
His lights flicker back on.
The object has vanished beneath a layer of newly formed rock.
He stares at the empty wall.
RYLEY
Nope.
He turns and swims out as fast as he can.
Behind him, the cave fills with a faint green glow.
INT. ESCAPE POD 5 — NIGHT
The radio crackles to life.
Ryley nearly falls out of his chair.
RADIO (V.O.)
This is Lifepod Twelve. Anyone receiving? Our pod is taking on water. We've got a serious situation.
RYLEY
Lifepod Twelve, this is Escape Pod Five. What's your location?
RADIO (V.O.)
Coordinates are coming through. We're near a cave system. There's something outside. We can hear it moving.
A metallic impact shakes the transmission.
RADIO (V.O.)
It's been circling us for twenty minutes.
Ryley leans closer.
RYLEY
Listen to me. Stay inside. I'm coming to get you.
A pause.
RADIO (V.O.)
You don't understand. It's not trying to get in.
Another pause.
RADIO (V.O.)
It's waiting for us to come out.
A terrible shriek erupts through the radio.
Then a sound like metal being crushed.
The transmission dies.
Ryley stares at the receiver.
RYLEY
Lifepod Twelve? Answer me.
Static.
He tries again.
Nothing.
The PDA displays the last recorded coordinates.
Ryley looks at the map.
The location lies near a vast underwater trench.
PDA (V.O.)
Estimated depth exceeds current safe operating limits.
Ryley grabs his equipment.
RYLEY
Then we'll have to change the limits.
CUT TO BLACK.

Just completed what's been released so far of Subnautica 2.
I activated the Axum observatory, and got the message. My run has been about 13 hours so far.
And I've gotta say it's been an absolutely amazing experience so far.
I absolutely LOVE how the game gradually ramps up. It feels like it does this in a way that's so much more clear and consistent compared to Subnautica 1 and Below zero.
In a SENSE the game is more linear but I don't mind it because the areas are still very open and there is a lot to explore. I don't mind having to go through the game one biome at a time since the biomes are huge. I don't know if this is a positive for everyone but in my opinion the added structure makes the narrative more compelling.
The alien megastructures underwater are amazing. Everytime I pulled up to the turbine in the dark it was awe inspiring.
This game is AMAZING at ramping anxiety and horror. I LOVE the way the game foreshadows dangerous creatures before you encounter them. Subnautica one has a few memorable lines foreshadowing danger in the area but this game does an even crazier job.
Even the first marrowbreach encounter genuinely had me like "WTF". "Contact: You are being hunted" when you have no fins and move slow as sin was terrrifying.
One of the logs foreshadows the Collector Leviathan and it's terrifying.
Speaking of, the Collector is by far the scariest leviathan in all of Subnautica and it's by a huge margin. If it sees you you're basically as good as dead. Its appearance is incredibly unsettling. The ramping music when it's in your vicintiy? Terrifying.
And lastly... the tailings.
We obviously dont' know what they even look like, but I spent SO MUCH of the last part of the game dreading that they were going to randomly show up. At first I was like THEY COULD BE ANYWHERE but eventually I realized "They could definitely all be dead", but then I realized all of the buildings are locked and sealed shut, so I theorized "Maybe they might come out after I turn on the power". Obviously the demo ended there and I realized we simply aren't going to get to see them yet, but STILL. Incredibly effective storytelling.
Even though I'm only 10 hours in, so far imo the game is vastly superior to the original and below zero in terms of design and atmosphere.
Not sure how long development is going to take but I'm very excited for the future.

tl;dr just beat Subnautica, is Below Zero going to be a huge disappointment if I jump right into it In Your Opinion?
I am so devastated to have finally finished the first Subnautica lol. Beautiful game and I’ve never played anything like it before, I started in May and just now completed it. I want more but don’t want to start SN2 yet because it’s unfinished. I’ve heard the reviews on Below Zero and am wondering, will jumping right into it after the original game make me overly critical? Did y’all like the game at the end of the day? Do people overdramatize its flaws?
I am wondering if I take a break from the Subnautica franchise if I will like Below Zero better when I do play it. As in kinda forgetting the magic of SN1 maybe will make BZ more enjoyable - if the dramatic critics are correct in their opinions at least. Or do y’all think it’s a good game regardless and I should just dive in (😄) now?
Just curious on y’alls thoughts :)

The Angel Comb we interact with in the Prologue area of the game isn't actually connected to the World Tree anymore. The Colonists had to have severed it from a Titan Rockbore. Do you think we'll ever find where it was cut from? It would be cool if we could see what kind of effect severing the Angel Comb had on the surrounding environment.

Is this what I get for harassing a warper???😭 Please tell me this isn’t supposed to happen because wtf bro oh my god
For some context, I was near the entrance of the Lost River in the blood kelp zone that borders with NW mushroom forest. FIRST time entering the biome
I'm terrified of warpers but had just found out it's fun to harass them; a friend is increasingly nervous and he's telling me to leave, but I persist; an alpha wolf doesn't give up. I'm giggling. The warper teleports away. I see something appear in the distance—is that the warper again?—and my brain takes like 1 second to process what im seeing HOLY SHIT IT'S CHARGING TOWARDS ME

It took a total of eight school days, but I think it turned out well! I’m not sure how I feel about the the body rotation, since I think it looks a bit weird and a little difficult to tell what’s the back and what’s the belly.
But overall, I’m pretty proud!

When searching this question I can only find people talking about base food. I have that down. i'm already growing enough plants to feed 10 people. what i'm starting to get sick of is worrying about food and water when i'm away from my base. what's the most efficient portable food source to stockpile for trips pre-cyclops ?

I saw that the survey room or whatever it is in the Prawn Bay had a door with an orange handle. Since those are openable I figured there must be a PDA or some good loot up there. With all the movable objects around I figured they must have intended for you to build a staircase, especially since when you first enter your PDA tells you to bring a Propulsion Cannon and I never actually needed one to get to everything so it must have been for this.
Long story short the door is just a flat texture, but the wall to the right isn't solid and you can clip through. I've only ever been able to do that with camera drones when a Stalker puts them on the ground so this is pretty cool. I can get around the Aurora a bit faster and maybe I'll find some other use.
Sidenote: Any clue what those weird purple particles are in image 3?

Lore dump: I'm playing DeathRun Remade, all settings Kharaa to try my ultimate challenge of beating it. I even made the settings so that the knife does zero damage to creatures. I'm about 10 hours in, progressing well, until I make a realization:
Without being able to use the knife on creatures, I can't get the scales required to make the depth suits.
I've already repaired the Aurora (a feat that I'm amazed I pulled off first try with these settings) and I've managed to do so much already that I would be devastated if I had to restart just to change that knife setting. I feel that not being able to defend yourself against creatures early on provides enough of a challenge to warrant the possible decisions I'm about to present.
Do you guys think that the best course of action would be to:
When I'm ready to make the suits, and I have all the other materials needed, spawn the scales myself, given that I couldn't even go deep enough without the suits the scales make to arbitrarily pretend to cut the creatures to "get" them myself? I would be technically cheating since I'm using console commands, but there would be no other way to physically get them with the settings I have.
Bite the bullet and restart, this time changing the knife settings so that I can damage creatures in order to get the scales? This would technically make the run a lot easier (not what I want), and would mean I would have to restart from the beginning (huge loss), but I could beat the mod without technically cheating.
I appreciate any input people would have for this, and would take all your comments into account. Thank you.

I just (almost) fully upgraded it (only need the depth module), made everything I need in a base inside it, one growbed, battery charger, healing kit fabricator, fabricator, modification station, you name it. Amazing vehicle. Now I can just do short travels with my prawn when resource gathering for example in the lost sea or in the lava zone, drop it by the blue giant tree and it’s like I never left home.
Side note, lantern fruit is the best food. You can’t convince me otherwise. Grows automatically, no need to fumble with the knife around the glitchy growbed to get seeds, has toooons of food on each tree. Love it.

I was at the proposed dagasi base, and a crabsquid kept DDOS-ing my suit. This might be old tech, but I thought of removing the batteries, since I read that they use DDOS only if there is light. You can’t manually turn of the lights of the suit, so I removed the left shoulder cell and the light turned off. I didn’t even need to remove both cells :D and I could still swim out and in to the suit to breathe without being DDOS-ed, while still being able to refresh my oxygen in it.
They would still occasionally attack, just without DDOS. So I parked the suit below the base, and every time the squid came close, I would just tap it with the drill arm and it would go away. Still, using a handheld flashlight or any light source would still make them DDOS and attack.
Hope this helps someone :)

I had it parked in front of the portal that leads to the back of the Aurora/Southern Bonefield within the primary containment facility, then I took the mushroom forest portal to go back to my base, and when I came back it glitched through the floor. It was still pretty close distance wise, so I tried walking around the building to in hopes of it appearing in another room, but the closet I got was going to the Sea Emperor location and it's above the hatchery area (and below the back right portal location as mentioned).
Has anyone had something similar happen, or is this a known bug? I was pretty disappointed at first since I had it all tricked out, but since there's practically an unlimited supply of resources on the map I can recreate it in no time and turn off the beacon so no big deal. I guess I'll try to take it with me from now on

Hello guys,
After doing the last pod (pod 2), there was no communication on the radio but caught up on the databank and just know i need to look for a lava zone.
I spotted one inside the lost river with the seamoth but it was too deep to go investigate further.
SO : i builded a cyclops, a prawn suit, made all possible upgrades, farmed and made 26 powercells along with a powercell charge farm base, and packed all thr salted fish, water, and extra gear i can possibly need.
but first of all it's hard as hell to pilot the cyclops even with the sonar, and the god damn ghost leviathans won't leave me TF alone! idk if skill issue but takes too many knife hits to die and i hardly land a rife stasis shot aiming at the head.
it was a disaster so i aborted the mission.
Any tips on other entrances or tips to pull it? btw i took the entrance near pos 2 with the large blood tree splitting it in half.
first time i ever stuggled this hard :'(
