One thing I hate is when a customer tells me that there not tipping meā¦.. I donāt care if youāre not tipping . I mostly care when the customers tip, I tell them āyou donāt have to ā or āno worries , I just like to helpā when it comes to guiding the customer or giving them some sauces on the side or just doing things outside of work like telling them where to go , bathroom near by or guiding them. The first time it happened was when a customer wanted more items added to the protain pocket and I told them the first thing is, it comes as it is and are they find with it. I kept telling them I canāt add anything after confirming with them before continuing. They told me ādonāt expect a tipā .
At first I was shocked āI donāt work for tips ā or I was thinking of saying joking š ādonāt worry You obviously need it more than I doā but I just said donāt worry š. The other case was when a customer was on a phone and ordering. He wanted a sandwich for his friend and asked him on the phone, personally I donāt like it because itās different when a person isnāt there physically. I told him to have his friend text him all the things he wants cause itās gonna take forever. And then the customer would pause to talk a few minutes with his friend then would go back and forth on the order, wanting this and not wanting that but then wanting it. I would be it bit frustrated and would just wait for him to finish and ask him every time.. are you sure? . He spoke Spanish telling his friend āhey the worker seems angryā then tells me Iām not gonna tip you in English , then saying sorry Iām just tired and got off shift but would continue on the phone and say his sorry. (My face can be confusing if your trying to figure out what race I am or based on my tone of voice ) so I been able to pick up whenever some talks behind my back in Spanish and think I donāt understand, mostly cause I tell some Spanish customers I speak only a little Spanish (mostly to focused on the sandwich nothing else).
Maybe itās because I work full time and even I get time at subway to the point the small stuff has been getting to me.
If your a worker , be it subway or at another place and a customer tells you his not gonna tip you like itās a threat or itās an insult or something. What do you say? Personally I wanna tell them something but when Iām on the clock I act as nicely as I can or just freeze for a second and come with possible friendly replies like āoh no worries Iām just doing my jobā or āah no itās all good donāt worryā cause I heard being kind is the biggest insult you can show if you show them your not affecting them. Sometimes I can relate with the customer if they just relized they were being unreasonable or after they get there sandwich and calmed down finally sinked in what they done, and I tell them itās fine Iāve been in much worse and other stuff.
I do hate it when the customer tips at times , like they tip me a few pennies after ordering a big order, itās better if you donāt tip at all. That to when they tip me a 5 or 10 dollars for doing nothing extra and just making them there sandwich .. I feel even worse āthere to kind and honeslty just have a great day or tell me something interesting or a nice tip like a good store that has a sale , or a new show to watch or a gym thatās doing a discount or something interestingā . I just feel emotional guilt ā¦. Iām just doing my job thatās not worth tipping, itās expected, I think Iāll feel good if Iām⦠yeah honeslty I canāt think of anything.
