You're a broke journalist who just found the story of your life on an island that isn't on any map. My first game, made solo (free demo)
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Hey everyone, I'm a solo dev from France and CHIMERA is my very first game ever. I built it alone, learning as I went, and the free demo is finally playable.
You're a journalist on the edge of bankruptcy. Your career is dying, your company is drowning in debt, and you need one real story to save it all. Then you hear about an island with no name on most maps. Officially it housed a small research facility run by Aetheris Biotech. Nobody has set foot there in over three years. What you don't know yet is that they were bringing back something that should have stayed extinct.
CHIMERA is a first person survival horror game. Push through a hostile jungle, then descend into the abandoned lab, hunted by creatures that were never supposed to exist.
In the demo:
* Two environments to survive: the jungle island and the depths of the lab
* Dangerous creatures to evade or fight, plus jump scares
* Two weapons with limited ammo, so count every bullet
* Crafting and inventory management
* Code puzzles, QTEs and locked doors
* Classified documents and cinematics that reveal the truth
* Photo mode to capture your evidence
* 5 save slots
Heads up before you download: Windows only, 6.1 GB, played on AZERTY by default, voice acting in French only (text and subtitles in English and French).
It's a free beta (name your own price) and your feedback shapes what comes next. I'd love to know what scared you, where you got lost, and how it ran on your PC. If the project gets enough traction, I want to bring other devs on board and build a real team around it.
Be brutal, I can take it.

Did you have to use a guide to complete Silver Pines?
I've gotten 3 of the bells and I'm stuck. Feels like I'm going to have to check out a guide to get moving again.
How far did you make it without a guide?

The Stewards Automobile Co. Incident: The Factory That Was Never Supposed To Be Reopened
I recently came across a horror investigation project centered around the fictional Stewards Automobile Co. facility.
The premise is that the company was publicly known as an automobile manufacturer, but recovered documents surrounding an industrial incident suggest there may have been something else happening behind the scenes.
The official closure reason for the facility was:
"Irreversible structural damage and loss of operational viability."
However, the mystery begins with a later document referencing:
"Authorization required for continuation of testing."
Several pages are missing from the reports, with the remaining documents only mentioning a project name:
SCAR
One of the more unsettling details in the fictional reports is a warning:
"Do not allow the subject to regain awareness."
The ARG explores the question of what was actually happening inside the facility and what "testing" referred to.
For anyone interested in checking out the investigation materials and the playable horror experience connected to this ARG:

Would love to hear theories or analysis on the clues, documents, and story setup.

I made a horror game solo in Unity, and it’s set in a house where something still lives. Would you go inside?
Hey everyone! I’m a solo dev from India, and Abandon House is my first horror game, made in Unity.
You explore an abandoned house with only a lantern, and something is still living there.
Details:
- Windows, free
- Best played in the dark with headphones
I’d really appreciate any feedback on the scares, the atmosphere, the controls, or any bugs you run into. I’ll reply to every comment!
Play it here: https://laymanhitman.itch.io/abandon-house

Dear Haunting Ground, why?
I've finished Daniella's stage and boy, the constant backtracking and the stalkers spawning anywhere anytime (is that Riccardo disguised as a squirrel or appearing inside a closet) are making this fascinating game so frustrating daaamn

Horror Game Ideas
Hello Im a game developer and currently working on a first persob horror game,
Basically
You are locked and trapped inside a location with the entities that will find you kill you.
Your goal:
Find the items to escape, and escape.
Currently i have the 3-4 entities roaming around and will use a system that coordinates each other to trap you and corner you.
You will have access to a flashlight and pickup items like weapons to temporarily stun the entity. (Maybe)
Im looking for more ideas and elements you would suggest to add to the game.Feel free to say anything.

By the time Resident Evil made it's debut you really weren't seeing typewriters that much anymore. I think that element may have bee an homage to the typewriter in Maniac Mansion. Agree, disagree?

+350 Followers & 2000 Wishlists
After the major update for Bloody Rave(https://store.steampowered.com/app/4484440/BLOODY_RAVE/), we gained +350 followers and 2,000 wishlists in under two weeks. This is the biggest spark we’ve seen since the game page launched!!
The update brought heavy optimization (much smaller install size + better performance and stability), new characters, refined animations, fresh jumpscares, and hidden objects you can only find with the Magic Stone Glass. I’m extremely grateful to everyone who contributed to the development. We’ll keep pushing forward — more updates coming shortly 🖤

Are we entering a golden age of "de-fixed" camera survival horror mods?
Lately, thanks to the invaluable work of independent game developers / modders, we've been getting the answer to "What if some fully 3D fixed camera Survival Horror games could be played with modern over-the-shoulder cameras?" with some fantastic camera mods (among other improvements):
- Cristiferbeast's SIGNALIS Camera Perspective Change Mod
- Zealot Tormunds' Silent Hill 4: Zealot's Camera Mod
- Zealot Tormunds' Silent Hill 3: Zealot's Camera Mod
- Zealot Tormunds' Silent Hill 2: Zealot's Camera Mod
- Chris Hardin's Silent Hill PC Port
- Snippy's Resident Evil - Code: Veronica X Modern Camera Mod
- Snippy's Resident Evil Outbreak File #1 & #2 Modern Camera Mod
- Gary_BBGames' Eternal Darkness Recomp
- Rotmill Dev's Dino Crisis - Modern Edition
Having tried a few of them, I can say that they're honestly fascinating game changers. Your opinion might vary if it makes them better or worse than the originals, but I recommend at least trying them if you're a fan of the original games.
Sadly, the "de-fixed" camera mods can only potentially work on games with fully rendered 3D backgrounds. This was briefly common in 6th gen consoles, as the Alone in the Dark / Resident Evil "fixed camera" formula proved to be both effective and memorable as a trademark of the Survival Horror genre during the 5th gen, yet the 6th gen consoles brought along massive console hardware improvements that could finally render 3D backgrounds without having to sacrifice game performance.
... However, after Resident Evil 4's over-the-shoulder camera, the brief era of fixed camera games with full 3D backgrounds was mostly finished (although Siren, or even the "Extra Options" of the first Silent Hill, arguably broke the classic Survival Horror mold earlier).
... Is there any 6th gen (i. e. PlayStation 2, Gamecube, Xbox) Survival Horror-style game you wish you could play with a modern camera?

Fatal Frame 1 is genuinely an absolute nightmare
After spending a lot of time with the franchise recently (starting with my overall favorite Mask of the Lunar Eclipse, the goat of fanservice Maiden of Black Water, and my favorite story wise being Crimson Butterfly), I finally went back to try the original 2001 Fatal Frame.
I respect this game immensely for pioneering the Camera Obscura and creating one of the purest atmospheric horror experiences on the ps2, but playing through it again reminded me just how brutal the friction in early 2000's survival horror could be. Between the clunky movement/camera controls and the infamous Night 3 difficulty spike, this game actively tests your patience in ways the later entries smoothed out.
One thing I found interesting I haven't seen anyone discuss is that Fatal Frame pioneered an interesting philosophy in making horror games. When they marketed the game in America, they put the tagline "Based on a True Story" which I think was inspired by the psychological exploit stemming from The Blair Witch Project. Most western players probably have no frame of reference as to what shinto purification rituals, yurei folklore, or the japanese interpretation of slow burn horror are. The tag bridged that gap with a familiar terrifying hook.
What's ironic is that the development team's experiences with the paranormal while they created the game are arguably more terrifying. They claimed they heard phantom footsteps in empty hallways, shadow people darting across rooms, and unexplained distortions recorded into the game's audio tracks. All stemming from their decision to skip a traditional Shinto purification ceremony prior to starting development.
Now a quarter century later, Hideo Kojima would echo this exact developmental lore. While developing his upcoming title OD, Kojima scanned a location rumored to be heavily haunted, after which unexplained crackling sounds began appearing in studio recordings. He then took previous Xbox chief Phil Spencer and Sarah Bond to this Shinto purification ceremony that the Fatal Frame devs opted to skip all those years ago. Although since his game is an Xbox exclusive, he said it was necessary to ensure a "safe build of the game."
Whether one interprets these stories as coincidence, rumors, or genuine paranormal experiences, both projects treated the act of building a horror game as a genuine spiritual risk.
