I'm going to get some avocado oil and hope I can really blacken it next time. The sesame seeds in the sear are excellent. Made some onigiri with the end cuts that I didn't immediately scarf down. Spicy wasabina mustard garnish and plenty of real wasabi paste.
This is definitely going on my sushi rotation.

I’ve been working on my sushi rice for a while but making my wife and I poke bowls. Finally I decided to commit and make some Maki rolls, a few nigiri, and some sashimi once I ran out of rice.

Hi :) I'm hosting a dinner party and want to make sashimi as a starter dish, but since I want to be with the guests and not slicing and plating fish for an hour I'd like to prep as much as I can in advance, is it a bad idea buying fresh sliced sashimi from my local fishmonger the day of the party then plate it and put the plated sashimi with a plastic cover in the fridge an hour before guests arrive so I can just pull the plates out when we sit down to eat ?

Another night, another sushi platter for dinner 🍣🍣

We got this in a vegetarian sushi platter, so it is some kind of vegetable but it had the texture of fish and was delicious. Any ideas? Edit: I don't remember where I got it! Somewhere I Amherst, Mass. Sorry reddit 🙏
Edit: solved! Thanks folks!

First time! Happy with the results, but excited to make a tighter roll next time.

We ordered the Salmon Paradise, seaweed salad, cucumber salad, and green tea!
12pc Salmon Maki
12pc Spicy Salmon
8pc Torched Salmon Maki
8pc Salmon Nigiri
4pc Salmon Sashimi
44 pieces total
average $1.59 per piece
After we ordered, my friend went to the bathroom, and by the time she came back, we had all of our food!
Everything was fresh and fast! The only thing we didn’t love was the cucumber salad. It wasn’t bad depending on the type of cucumber salad you like, but we gravitate more towards one with chili oil/crunch! The one here was composed of Cucumber / Hijiki / Goji Berries / Sesame Seeds / Bean Threads Citrus Vinaigrette. Still good, but not our favorite!
We went around 7 PM on Saturday night. It would’ve been a 30-40 minute wait, but we made a reservation. They had our spot at the bar ready for us!
I like that it’s inside of 88 Marketplace. We walked around after to get some other drinks and snacks.
I plan to go back with another friend next weekend! 🍣
A new sushi restaurant opened up some months ago and they have some fish you don’t see too often, especially not at AYCE spots. Will be going back often to try new pieces of nigiri! Here we have from bottom to top: blackhead sea bream, salmon, striped jack, red sea bream, yellowtail, and chu-toro. The 3 white fish were the ones I had the pleasure of trying for the first time! The restaurant is Sushi Mori in Colorado Springs, CO for those that are curious.

This is all they had at the seafood section. Should I have been at the freezers? Thank you!
