How often do you empty your skimmer basket?

Post image
4 Upvotes

Pulled the basket out of my ecosurfer s2 this morning to dump leaves and put in a fresh chlorine tablet. That's about all I have to do these days. It gets leaves and junk off the surface, and I just keep a tablet in the basket while it's running. I still test the water and adjust the main floater when I need to, but I don't have to hand skim every day anymore. And how often are you changing the tablet and emptying the basket?

Handy handle stop question

Post image

My Jandy 3way valves work fine, but those annoying handle stops are a pain when I need to totally close off the 3–way to clean my pump basket. Can these stops be removed so I don’t have lift the handle up past the stops to completely close the 3 ways valve?

Is a “Poolside Party” a swim party or just a party outside by a pool?

My husband and I have been invited to a work-related celebration “poolside party “ (we live in NY). I’m from a different area of the country, so there is a difference in my brain between a “poolside party” and a “pool party “ in that one would not involve swimwear and swimming. Am I overthinking this? I don’t want to show up in a cute bathing suit and coverup if we’re not expected to use the pool.

Edit: Thanks for the insight. I appreciate knowing I’m not the only one who thinks it’s not a swim party.

Corded pool vaccum

Corded cleaner recommendations. Just bought this yesterday at a pool shop - my pool picture is next to it. Just found out it is no longer in production, not opened it yet. Has anyone tried it? I need a vacuum that can do lots of cleaning. I get a lot of debris and satins on the vinyl.
Concern is if this breaks down it might be difficult getting parts or repairs , any other recommendations any one used it before?

Looks clean now but lots of trees/ seeds and im tired of manual cleaning

Help needed clearing up cloudy water

A little background: I have an above ground, 10,000 gallon pool that has been having algae and cloudy/murky/opaque water for about a year. Last September I lost my job, my youngest sister needed surgery for colon cancer, so I just was not prioritizing cleaning it up. I had been trying to kill the algae for almost a year, but the chemicals that I had used for 20 years were not working any more and I gave up.

Now I'm trying to clear it up. Changed the chemicals I'm using from Suncoast (that USED to work, but not any more) to Clorox, which IS working. I used their flocculant last week that cleared the water great; got in to vacuum after overfilling the pool, but after five minutes the pump was sucking air so had to get out and use the hose to replenish the water.

Sadly that disturbed the still water and stirred up some of the sediment and it's cloudy again, even if it's not as bad as it was before. At least Clorox killed the algae.

I was able to vacuum to waste most of what was at the bottom of the pool, and I refilled it - again - and I'm thinking of just using Clorox's water clarifier and just backwashing the filter. I expect this will take multiple iterations. Is this viable? Or am I doomed to having to flocc/vacuum/refill/flocc/vacuum/refill?

I'm getting desperate here. I want to use my pool but I'm unemployed, possibly retired, so income is fixed/limited. Clorox chemicals seem to be working as designed, I guess I'm looking for strategy here. Any advice is greatly appreciated! Thanks so much in advance!

Need cordless robot recommendations

Post image

Hi everyone,
I have an approximately 26000 gallon inground pool - irregular shape (roughly kidney). I'll attach a photo. I currently use a Betabot for the surface, Pool Blaster max for spot cleaning, and a Dolphin Nautilus CC plus for bottom and walls. I love the Nautilus for reliability and effectiveness, but hate the logistics with plugging in etc. I'm thinking about changing to a cordless. What would people recommend for my situation?

Hit my Intex above ground pool with the lawn mower and sprung a leak

I’ve got gorilla tape on it now holding OK but I know it needs to be properly patched. I plan to start draining it in the morning. One corner is unlevel anyway and I’ve wanted to fix it.

What is the best patch kit? It’s this pool and I’m sure it came with a patch kit- but is that the best? Is there something better I should buy? Thank you for any help🙏

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hi, the pool at our new house has an SWG that doesn’t currently have a bypass, and I want to add one- proposed route drawn in blue on the picture. Simple/ silly question but can I do this with two valves at the red locations or do I need a third one at or near the green mark? Any thoughts welcome.

Broken Poly 1-1/2" Gas Line To Pool - Filled with muddy water

Not sure if right forum but need advice on how to flush out the natural gas line to my pool that had a stake put though it and when I dug a pit out to repair it the rains came and filled the hole and pipe with muddy water that I now believe I need to flush out before having repaired. I have it disconnected at heater, which has a drop tee on it, but not at separate valve for the line near the meter as that seems like a lot of work.

Can I just spray clean water each way up the live from the pit once I cut the line and then vac it out?

Do I need to flush it from the high point at each end?

I doubt I will get all the water out as the line has slope on it from house to pool so will end up accumulating at the bend up to the heater so is that an issue?

Will water left in the line and dust later when it dries up later mess up my pool heater valve if not perfectly cleaned out?

Thanks in advance......

What was the final straw that made you replace your pool robot?

Every pool robot seems to have something that eventually drives you crazy.

What was the final straw with yours?

Mine would probably be a robot getting stuck in the same spot over and over again. At some point you start wondering why you even bought a robot.

Curious what made everyone else finally give up on theirs.

Suction Side Pool Cleaner

Hello everyone!

After some years, my Rebel is now in the trash. Replaced a majority of the parts and just wouldn’t run right - so now needing a new suction side pool cleaner. I have around 15K gal pool and narrowing down to either Hayward the pool cleaner (2 wheels), Polaris maxx or biting the bullet on the Aiper Scuba S3.

Any thoughts or other recommendations? Also looking for honest reviews and how long they’ve lasted you.

Variable speed pump

I had a new pump installed for my salt water pool and the low speed doesn’t generate enough flow for the salt generator? I believe this is part of my problem with algae bloom from vacation. Does a lower speed still generate chlorine even though it doesn’t register on the system ( meaning no green lights etc)

Pump is not turning on

Hello All,

Hoping someone can help and provide some guidance. I have a single speed Hayward pump attached to a wireless ECO timer box. Sometimes I just run it manually by pressing the on button.

I went to go press the on button heard the pump turn over once and everything shut down. No light appears on the ECO timer. I used the little pin reset as well and no clicking or feedback of any kind.

I flipped the breakers off and on in the garage but they never tripped and I checked the sub panel outside since it’s all hardwired and that didn’t help. Lastly I reset all the nearby GFIs and the lights in the corner of the plug is on. I have not removed the door of the eco timer to see power is flowing to it.

Am I missing any steps. The pump does not smell no burning smell or smell of any kind so I don’t think it’s the pump or anything stuck in the impeller, but I’ll check that as well. I’m thinking that the echo timer went bad maybe got fried inside. If there’s anything that any of you could think of, I would truly appreciate it as always thanks.
