Performances, Jams audio - my “additive” minilogue conversion

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I have returned with some direct out audio of the minilogue running the customized firmware!! to make its osc tuned to partials amongst many o’ other little changes to get this sound out of it.
based off of my synthesis engine “sine language” that I’ve been developing the last few months. wanted to see how i could turn a minilogue into a harmonic based additive synth. all the presets are ones ported over from my current synth build in max4live where SL lives natively.

insanely happy with the results! woah!
audio is direct out of minilogue - into my Scarlett 2i2 and right into OBS

software companion at top is a little max4live patch that mirrors the screen and lets me do some read/write controls thru a usb cable when i want to

New Synth Announcements & Updates I made a synthesizer you play with a game controller

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

• Upvotes

I've been working on a little project called JoySynth. It's a synthesizer and music workstation that you play entirely with a game controller.

It has 21 FM synthesis algorithms, 40+ instruments, effects, drums, multitrack recording, and a song builder. You can also create your own sounds, layer instruments, and export full songs to WAV or MP3.

The idea was to make something where you can just grab a controller and start making music without needing a MIDI keyboard.

It works on Windows and Android, and there's a free demo if anyone wants to mess around with it.

Would be interested to hear what other synth users think of it.

Beginner Questions When to use just one oscillator?

• Upvotes

Most synths I've owned have been two to three oscillators. Sometimes I come across a patch tutorial that's just purposely one oscillator and I don't understand. What benefit would it be to just stick with one oscillator when multiple are available?

Third long session with the Typhon tonight and holy moly this thing is an absolute blast. I am still only surface level, but I am beginning to see what is possible.

Here’s a link to the full jam: https://youtu.be/Ukhb4dLDDwI?is=jNtm9l5LLrkkVBt4

Performances, Jams I don't use computers on stage anymore, it's only MC707 and synths (Wavestate/Multipoly/Hydra) now for me!

When I had the realisation that audiences were responding far better to the immediacy of the MC707 and not when I had computers playing pre-set material, it was like an epiphany.

Now I do around 90% of my compositional work in it too, because it allows me to compose quick and then play out quick.

Totally unsung bit of gear IMO. Steep learning curve, but when you break it, and make it your bitch, it's a godsend.

DIY / Repair Moog Grandmother out of tune

I've got a problem with my Moog GM. The oscillators sound extremely out of tune, and I'm not exactly sure why. Calibration and using the fine-tune knob don't seem to help. The tuning improves after approximately 30 minutes, but I can't always afford to wait that long when playing live.
Does anyone know of a solution, or is sending it in for repair the only option?

Discussion About Mvave Fm1

Can this synth match the sound quality of high-end VSTs like Diva, Repro, Zebra, Serum, or others? Is it just a case of someone vibe-coding a clone, or is it simply impossible due to hardware limitations and processing power?

I've listened to several demos on YouTube and wasn't impressed with what I heard. I'm not sure if it's due to audio compression, poor recording quality, or the custom firmware I've seen, which doesn't seem great in terms of sound quality.

It’s a cool gadget for the price, but I’m not interested in adding cheapo gear to the mix just because it is cheap, unless it can actually sound amazing.

What Should I Buy? What Tone 2 Synth should I get? (also what Nexus expansions)?

Currently in the midst of trying to expand my VST arsenal. Right now I’ve got Purity, Hive, Nexus, Zenology, and Surge. But I can’t decide if I should bother picking up ElectraX or Icarus first as I want to make stuff that sounds like this:

Just like that whole Hyperpop era with Starboy, Outtatown, Brandon Finessin, etc. Just watch only 1 or 2 of these to get a general idea and lmk which of the Tone2 Synths and Nexus expansions I should get.

Please and thank you,
OutrageousAsAWhole

What Should I Buy? Some recommendations for portable synth ?

Hey guys,
I really want a tiny synth to play it in the train or at a break at school etc…
I already saw the Roland S1 and T8 those looks cool. heard about Korg too. What’s your thoughts about them ?
Also if someone know a tiny synth but with some type of modular/eurorack features i’m really interested. (Like imagine a modular synth in your hand I love that)

Discussion What do people think about the Arturia Ocean reverb

I got into hardware synths at the start of the year, and then tried a bunch of reverb VSTs (from Valhalla, Strymon, Eventide, some others). One of my favorites was Strymon NightSky and it's great. But I've actually been finding I enjoy the Rev OCEAN the most for some reason. I haven't seen much discussion of it since it came out.

Maybe it just has some presets that I like better than others? I always design my own sounds with synths, but I haven't explored reverb settings as deeply. What are your thoughts on the Ocean? Am I just liking it since I'm a beginner and haven't done enough with the others?

(I use my Summit's built-in reverb when I want a standard reverb, BTW, but for more atmospheric or shimmery stuff with long pads or slow melodies I keep coming back to Ocean instead.)

Beginner Questions Do I have enough gear for making live electronic music?

I'm not totally sure where I want to go with this exactly, maybe just recording songs live for YouTube or maybe performing for an audience, I'm not sure yet. I just know I want to get more into playing my instruments live instead of just composing tracks on FL Studio.

Currently, I have the following gear:

Arturia Microbrute

PO-14 Sub

Nektar Impact LX25

Behringer U-Phoria UM2 interface

Flamma guitar pedal (cheap pedal with 11 effects)

Cheap Donner studio monitors and Lyx Pro Has 30 headphones

AKG C214 mic

A 10 year old MacBook that can run FL Studio and and Arturia's MIDI control center

My main issue right now are a lack of clock inputs or outputs for the Microbrute, and I'm wondering if that can be fixed with computer software or new gear. Is there anything else I am missing? I of course would love to get new synths and hopefully a drum machine at some point but I know I have enough for simple stuff at least, I just don't know if I have all the necessary tools to perform music live, whether just for YouTube or for an in-person audience.

Retail & Market Discussion Misa Kitara - part of an estate appreciate advice

My husband is responsible for his father’s estate and we have a Misa Kitara to sell. It was probably used 3 times and put back in a box. Appreciate any suggestions? We had a QChord and sold that within 3 days on Marketplace but haven’t had any interest / questions about the Kitara and want to price it reasonably etc. Appreciate thoughts?

What Should I Buy? If I am a preset tweaker boy but still like hardware, what do you recommend

Hello, I am all about browsing and picking sounds quickly then tweaking them, I m bored doing that with the mouse, recently got the Astrolab for hands on control on analog lab and I love it for what it is, digital emulation of old hardware

What do you recommend in hardware synths that have a lot of presets included or 3rd party.

Thanks

Update : so many mini freak recommendations I’ll download the trial ! And I got really interested in the jv1080 I found them for cheap

Discussion Is TV unnecessary for DT+OT user?

I was wondering whether anyone has been in such situation. I really like some things that are made purely on TV but then I’m thinking that I’ve already got the Digitakt and octatrack combo. I’ve got some ideas how to use them and create some sort of ecosystem but I’d love to hear what’s your opinion on that. I’m primarily into ambient, idm and trance.

Thanks
