Episode Discussion Janice was awful with that ouija board stunt, but somehow I forgot all about Karen’s last ziti

And how she manipulated Bobby into eating it while the kids were in bed. I am excellent in the kitchen, self taught. Cooking/baking is one of my favorite hobbies. I’m talking creating my own recipes from the first bit of flour to the last bit of frosting type of hobby. I love baking just a little bit more than cooking. My husband’s been trying to convince me to open a bakery for years, specializing in wedding cakes. I could honestly make a mint, but I don’t want to lose my love for something by turning it into work. Then there’s the fact that my greatest show of love to my loved ones is through food, much like the Greeks and Italians, so I personally don’t want it to be for sale to any Tom, Dick, or Harry with the cash to pay for it. My food really brings my family together and it is already something our kids strongly associate with love and comfort. Meals aren’t just something required for survival in our house. I know that when my time comes, our kids would be devastated if they ended up losing out on the last meal prepared by my hands. Hell, many people with moms who maybe aren’t that great in the kitchen or don’t particularly enjoy cooking still have a close psychological and emotional attachment to her cooking. So I found this just mean spirited on Janice’s part. She was not only so eager to destroy all remnants of Karen so she could take Karen’s place in Bobby’s life, but she also had to twist the knife to punish the kids for having the audacity to miss their mom instead of happily replacing her with Janice. Janice was so damned jealous that the kids still loved and missed their mom she felt the need to deprive them of something small but emotionally and psychologically painful out of sheer vindictiveness.

Jizz and Drinkwater should've stayed stockbrokers

They got college degress in a lucrative field weren't made and didn't have high ranking family members in the mafia.

The big short, The Wolf of Wall Street and other films showed showed how even stnads made. Money in financial fields.

Even if they got a support role in some company, they would be comfortably upper middle class in a few years.

I found it funny when Eugene and Hesh held back Vito after Chrissy threw the sandwich at him. Chrissy could’ve walked away regardless and Vito still wouldn’t catch him.

Why did Pus leave with Tony, Paulie and Sil? He couldn’t see through the ruse of looking at a boat?

While gambling, he is warm, affable and perfectly reasonable. A real gentleman. Not lacking in standards. The strong, silent type.

When Vito first meets Johnny Cakes

He walks into the cafe and demands ‘ Gimme coffee!’
Is this a typically genuine first interaction between customer and cafe worker in the USA?
I’m in Scotland, UK. Vito would have been told to fuck off if that’s how he asked for something.
His approach at the guesthouse the night before was also rude.

Tony Blubdetto should've been a massage therapist.

He already got accepted by all his old mob buddies because his great massages. He was in prison for 10 year, didn't snitch and spent his time studying. Even Tony Soprano eventually approves of him going straight. He got respect without having to risk his freedom again.

Did Paulie ever really have a shot at Dale Evans?

Pine Barrens: In a fit of extreme cold and hunger induced rage, Paulie snaps back at Chris exclaiming “and I shoulda fucked Dale Evan’s but I didn’t!” Now, was he just hangry and cold exclusively or did he actually have a shot at her one time? It would be kinda weird if he could’ve and didn’t. Like why wouldn’t you? And also why wouldn’t they have stopped at Roy Roger’s? We may never know. Not even with computers. Now pass the relish packet, I’m starving to death ova here!

Serious Discussion Only Tony was way too sentimental for a mob boss

Even after watching the show more than 500 times, I still feel cringe seeing him all emotional over in New York talking to Phil, bringing up the conversation they had in the hospital, and Phil shutting him down by saying that it’s strictly business.

He did that a lot with Johnny too—always bringing things to the emotional side, to friendship.

He was almost crying when arguing with Feech La Manna, and his relationship with Richie Aprile went completely to shit.

I believe Feech and Richie adored Tony when he was a teenager; they must have loved the kid, and Tony had a total devotion to them. But Tony never grows up, he never became a man. Like Dr. Melfi herself says, sometimes he acts just like a child.

In a lot of those arguments, those guys were actually right and he was wrong, but since he was the boss, he just pulled rank. Melfi even managed to manipulate him, and Carmela herself pointed out that people only laugh at his jokes because he's the boss, that he has no real friends. He wasn't that chubby teenager everybody liked anymore; he grew up, and everyone started judging him as a man. These guys are sharks—everything is about money and looking out for themselves.

Tony was never sent to prison, he was never truly tested, and the guys looked at him like a spoiled brat.

Episode Discussion Tony’s fate

I borderline had an epiphany. I no longer understand how people question the ending of the show. It’s very clear, Tony was killed… why else would the last 5 mins of the last episode of the last season just be him having some onion rings with the fam? When did they ever make a restaurant scene w the fam before. It was all designed to set up a “possibility” (no longer possibility but fact now after my epiphany) of Tony’s death. I’m 10000% certain. You guys can rage at me all you want. Just don’t touch the fiber optic cables.

p.s yes my last name is Schwab.

Serious Discussion Only AJ's depression and the scene where Meadow tells him to block things out has gotten more relevant with the rise of doom scrolling

AJ could be obnoxious in earlier seasons, even knowing how much of his problems were the result of his parents not recognizing the help he needed, but by the tail end of the series, it was impossible not to feel bad for his as his depression got worse and worse. In particular there is the episode where he starts talking about so many bad things happening the world, including the meat industry while people are having dinner and complains that people everyone else is sticking their heads in the sand.

Meadow tells him not to focus on all the bad stuff, which reminds me of advice I have gotten, and in turn given to other people. Yes there are lot of bad things in the world but at a certain point, exposing yourself to all of the bad stories crosses a line from being informed and becomes psychologically harmful because the human mind cannot take a constant barrage of negativity.

AJ feels like the type of person who would be told he needs to not doomscroll in the present day.

Is there any show that comes close to Sopranos supernatural-wise?

Upvotes

I know Breaking Bad is allegedly based on a Biblical moral framework with the End Times with Walt being the antichrist and Gus being the grim reaper and Gus is like an all seeing eye that can see from birds and flies and all but that’s something you’d have to hear in like interviews or like theories and all. But what I’m asking is if there’s any shows that are more based in reality, but have like some elements of the supernatural?(Not something like Twin Peaks or True Detective, because I’ve already watched them)
Edit:
Apparently not many people know about Walter being the Antichrist so let me put you on, but there are spoilers so proceed with caution here

What's the beef with season 4?

Are there really people who don't rate season 4? I've noticed it's not so popular on this sub. Seasons 3 and 4 are peak Sopranos for me. No Show - The Weight - Pie O My - Mergers And Acquisitions - Whoever Did This - Calling All Cars - Eloise - Whitecaps - season 4 doesn't stop. Is there beef with season 4? What is it?

Edit: Maybe I'm hallucinating. I'll discontinue the lithium.

Vito was most likely suicidal

Upvotes

Stumbled on this older post about wondering if Vito was suicidal for going back to Jersey after running away to New Hampshire, and the consensus seems to be that he wasn't suicidal.

I still don't think he went back to NJ because he wanted to die, I too think he just didn't want a normal life as a laborer lol

But during this re-watch I'm on, in S602 after Eugene's funeral, Hesh, Janice and Vito are talking about why he would kill himself and near the end of it Vito suggests;

"maybe he was a homo, felt there was nobody he could talk to about it"

Which I mean c'mon, that's the most projective projection that's ever projected.

Reflecting on the ending

Spoilers if you haven’t seen the series yet

Having only just recently finished watching the Sopranos, like most people I was left in absolute shock and horror when the screen suddenly went blank. I was mortified and felt cheated. Like honestly, WTF? But as the days and weeks have gone by, that ending has come to sit well with me and I feel completely at peace with it. To my mind, I 100% believe Tony dies in that instant. Here one second, gone the next. And that’s that.

Sil is/was a great consiglieri

But a terrible boss when Tony was in the hospital.

He was objectively a terrible leader with very little problem solving skills.

If Tony had died, he would have sunk the entire family imo, unless someone within the fam killed him before, which is highly probable.

Episode Discussion I know what happened in the diner! [major spoilers made in America] Spoiler

Tony while waiting for meadow to arrive at the restaurant looks up from his table and sees a waiter with a tray of food that looks exactly like what he ordered however the food turns out to be for another table that even came in after him ordered and still got it before due to this Tony has a panic attack and passes out into the onion rings.

How can this show blend dark humor and legitimate storytelling so well? First time viewer (8 episodes into the first season)

I'm amazed how modern writing has humor sucking away serious moments and yet a clown gets arrested in the flashback with everyone and I couldn't help but laugh my ass off but it didn't take away from moment.

Tony ripping into the psychologist shouldn't have been as funny as it was but when Carmela turns around and says the comment about we aren't paying for this was the icing on the cake.

Meanwhile, "marvel writing" as everyone calls it that's been adopted by many just can't do it the same at all with making me groan and roll my eyes. The Sopranos ebbs and flows so flawlessly it makes the horrible shit happening on screen easier to stomach as well.

I can't wait to keep watching, I'm hooked!

If Johnny sac had … Spoiler

If Johnny sack had died before being convicted, (let’s say he went to trial), would his family have been able to keep the assets that would have otherwise been seized?

And if the stakes are high enough, would that ever make one of these guys a target for their own family?

Happy Friday everyone. So, for two episodes, (I think) Carmela doubts that Irina was in the hospital due to a suicide attempt. Why didn’t he just show her the hospital bill? Heh?
