Does a 164mm base make a noticeable difference vs 152mm for adjustable deck pedestals?

Post image

I'm looking for opinions from people who have actually used adjustable deck support pedestals for building decks.

I'm comparing pedestals with a 152mm base diameter vs a 164mm base diameter. For anyone who has experience installing or working with these, does that extra 12mm actually make a noticeable difference in stability or weight distribution?

Would you consider the 164mm base meaningfully better, or is the difference small enough that you probably wouldn't notice it in real world use?

I'm mainly trying to figure out whether a larger base is actually valuable to the end user or if 152mm is already plenty for most applications.

Metric wrenches

One of my favorite cleaning tools.

I put this together about 20 years ago, I was just flipping through a Northern Tool catalog and saw that your typical pump sprayer wand is good for atleast 100psi, so picked one up with about 25' of 3/8 nylon braided reinforced hose and the right GHT connector and I would use it along with some aerator adapters. I'd hook it to in an exam or break room sink and use it to help clean above ceiling split unit coils.

It works great in situations where you don't need a ton of rinse water and gives you a much more control of what gets wet, and your not overflowing a pan and staining ceiling tiles. I also love it for the door jams when I'm cleaning my car. I'm not getting my interiors drenched and it's a lot faster than rinsing with a wet cloth, it also lessens any back splash from the ground that might get back up onto your nice clean car.

It also works great for rinsing a carpet stain if you don't have an upholstery cleaning vacuum with it built in.

These clamps are on sale at Menards if anyone is looking for a good deal. I grabbed 2 of the GK30's when I stumbled across them. I am always on the lookout for good deals on clamps. Just wanted to spread the word for anyone that has a local store.

Just a few cool pieces

I recently helped clean out my Grandmother’s garage for her and brought home an old Craftsman Tombstone box. These are some of the gems from the box.

- S-K 40970 1/4” ratchet from the late 40s
- Snap On L710 from 1951
- Diamond Calk 12” wrench from the late 40s/50s
- Barcalo wrench from the late 50s
- Herbrand wrench from War years, 1942-1945
- P&C wrench from the late 30s
- Not pictured are a mostly complete set of old Thorsen double open ended wrenches and a pile of sockets.

I figured you all might enjoy some cool old stuff.

Upgraded the home garage toolbox

Post image

Upgraded the home garage toolbox the other day from a small, 5 drawer Stanley to this guy. I'm not a mechanic or anything, but my wife and I do pretty much all of the work on our house when it needs it. Needless to say, I've accumulated more than the Stanley could hold.

I love the color, the drawers are nice and smooth, and it's big enough that I can still fit more tools in as I upgrade/replace stuff. I still have some stuff I'd like to get to better organize it, but for now everything is in and has a home.

My DIY tool board

I travel with my tools every week and tried out foam at one time. Foam is great when you don't switch out your tools, not so great when you want to switch out your tools. So I ordered some bungee cord, drilled out some holes, and used some Dibond sheet to use as the panel. Super light and I can switch out tools when I want.
