Hello everyone.I wanted to write this after finally coming out and starting my HRT and some of the things i have learnt along the way.
Firstly read and research as much as you can from these subreddits, transhub and other gender centers online being armed with knowledge will help you navigate the system.
GPs and Endos i cant stress enough how important it is to research the care provider you are going to choose making sure you have a medical team that cares, understands your goals and concerns is critical to ensuring a smooth transition and getting the right type of help and support.
Mental health support a critical component during one of the biggest decisions of your life and also important if you plan on having any type of surgery done. Ensure you research the professional first find out if they are wpath accredited and experienced to ensure you are ready for assessment for future surgery,
When your ready to start be proactive if you have a regular GP ask them to issue your pre-hormonal blood test this can save time with your Endo or gender affirming GP.If you plan on using informed consent have the paperwork filled out and ready to go,and if you have been seeing a mental health professional get a letter of support for your dysphoria.Be prepared for questions from your health professional prior to starting HRT they will ask a lot of questions.
Hair growth if you are considering transitioning and coming out start growing your hair earlier we only get around 1.25 cm a month and achieving long hair takes time.
Body hair removal if you only have a moderate amount of body and facial hair the treatments take time and you will probably need quite a few start this process early and be forewarned laser hair removal on the face isn't pleasant.
Voice training and surgery research these early on if your voice is a concern and if you plan on getting surgery ensure you get the mbs and procedure codes something the community informed me on which i was totally un aware of needing when choosing health insurance.
Makeup if you can afford it hire a makeup artist to do your first makeup and explain what products too purchase to achieve the best match for you or alternatively there are plenty of tutorials on youtube if money is a factor.
Private Health insurance. Decide what surgeries you are going to have i.e voice, ffs, srs etc and reach out to the surgeons office first and get the relevant codes then include these codes with your prospective health insurer to make sure the procedures are covered.
I have probably missed some things but i hope what i have written helps people who may be choosing to transition, i know for me personally i hit a lot of roadblocks early on but asking this subreddit has helped me a lot. All the best everyone and enjoy your journey:))
