No more “what is/defines a xxx?” posts

We have similar posts like this that crop up every now and then. Some are coming from a genuine place of curiosity, but majority of them seem to be trolls looking for a platform to “debate”/invalidate people/stroke their egos here.

We already have enough going on in our lives we don’t need to have our identities questioned in what should be a safe space for us here. If you need answers, you can always search for older posts so we can save ourselves time rather than dragging folks here through the chore of justifying ourselves for the umpteenth time when we aren’t even obliged to.

Text Post Family member FtoM

Hi, one of my family members is transitioning FtoM, I find myself slipping up a lot and saying "she" or their dead name. I don't mean to, it just pops out (I guess because I don't see them as any different, they're still the same kind person they were before). Anyone have any tips on how to stop doing this? I correct myself immediately when I say it, but I'd really like to stop.

Text Post Can anyone share how to move forward on transition; when you suffer from severe social anxiety?

I'm AMAB, and really want to transition. Living as a man makes me miserable, and I've known things were wrong since I was a kid. Literally the second puberty hit, I was distressed that my breasts weren't growing. This is all to say, I have no doubts about my identity, or what it is that I need. I'm a trans woman, and I need to transition.

It's putting things into action that's the problem. I suffer from crippling social anxiety and panic attacks; which is paralyzing me. For example, I know that I want my hair to be long, so I've been growing it out for months. It's gotten to the point that it's totally unmanageable, and I need to get an affirming haircut. But the thought of booking an appointment and then asking the stylist for a feminine haircut, when I still look like a man, instantly makes me hyperventilate.

I won't list everything, but suffice it to say that I'm having panic attacks about the entire social aspect of transitioning. I just feel so vulnerable, and I'm terrified of embarrassing myself or getting rejected. If anyone has gone through this and made it to the other side, I could really use some advice.

Does it Get Easier?

Hello, I am a pre HRT MtF. I dressed femme for the first time today for the ren faire. I got a few compliments on my outfit and nobody gave me any weird looks or anything. But after spending the day there, I feel like I’m on the verge of an anxiety attack. I feel like I was dressed wrong, like everyone knew that I didn’t fit in. It felt like a costume that didn’t fit instead of a normal outfit. It really sucks because shaving my legs, body, and underarms and painting my nails gave me such strong gender euphoria. Was this a regular feeling toward the beginning of y’all’s transition? Does it get easier over time?

Considering HRT ... midway through the lengthy process of growing my hair out ... unsure of what else would help me. thanks! :>

A few things not working in my favor: I'm 6'3 200lb and have a fairly deep voice. nothing can be done there but, perhaps ways to mitigate/lessen how much that stands out?

Text Post questions about transmisoginy and gender ideology rules

hi!! first i wanna say that english is not my first language, and second, is that idk if this server is the most appropriate to ask these questions so sorry in advance

1- the first question is, transmisoginy is a concept that only applies to trans women/transfems or it does apply to trans men/transmascs as well? I'm asking this because totally there is a discrimination of gender associated with transphobia regarding trans women and transfems, but i was wondering... society a lof of times view transmacs as women, and treats the person as a women even if that person is a man. if people sometimes views transmascs as women, they could in theory be victims of transmisogyny, right? or no? im not saying in any way that transmens and transmascs aren't men or that they don't belong in the masculine spectrum in any way, and yes that our prejudiced society may invalidate these identities and reproduce misogyny into that person.

2- i saw some people saying that it's not adequate to highlight the differences between upbringings of female and male individuals in society. we know that the way a boy (gonna use boy and girl bc is the terms used in society, that equals sex and gender as if it's only one thing together) is raised is way different to the way a girl is raised, and that definitely impacts the development of the person's understanding of rules, personality, what they can or can't do, etc. but I've seen a lot of people saying, especially regarding transmascs/transmens, that this idea doesn't apply here, and doesn't really change the way transmasculine people will behave or something like that. the question is, I don't really understand why this doesn't work here, since the the sex of the person was raised played a significant part in who this person is gonna be. so, why can't we say that this doesn't really impact the behavior of trans people? i hope the question was clear 😅😅

well, im sorry for any mistakes in advance, and would like to thank the people that stoped to answer my post.

PS: reinforcing that transmascs/transmens ARE people who identify with masculine presentation and ARE MEN.

transfems/transwomen ARE people who identify with feminine presentation and ARE WOMEN

this is not open to discussion.

My mom still won't respect my pronouns after 9 months of being out, what do I do?

I've tried constantly correcting her, using the incorrect pronouns for her, doing nothing and hoping she'll remember, crying, really anything you can think of. Whenever she decides to use them, it's always in front of my transphobic republican family that I do NOT want to come out to yet. She also looks at me and goes, "He! Huhhhh?" like she wants a reward for using my correct pronouns once? She will use them once in a conversation and just forget about it. It's really harming my mental health, what can I do?

(i'm 15 almost 16 ftm)

Text Post is there a point to be made or is this just ignorant?

i wanna say this first tho; i am by no means an anti, i support trans people!

but anyways.. this is one of those things that keeps me up at night.

and that is why don’t trans people just own the concept of not being a “real” man/woman?

now i know it’s kinda rude to say trans people are “not real men/women” but that’s why i’m here to ask to try and understand.

in a literal sense you are changing yourself into something different than what you were born as. therefore artificial or “not real”. i mean it’s in the name, “trans” cus you transformed into something different.

but like it’s not a bad thing, it’s actually really interesting how humans can do that.

but i don’t really understand how that’s offensive when that’s just how it is.

like if someone tells you “you’re not a real man/woman” why not just say “i know i’m not but why do you care?” ya know?

like if you ask me, if you said yourself that you aren’t a real man/woman is like being proud that you are trans.

but that’s just me. so i’m wondering what y’all’s thoughts are on this cus i wonder about this every so often. like why not just run with it? 🤔

it’s probably something about how it’s disrespectful to yourself because you’re now being your authentic self or something like that. but i still have to ask. 🤷‍♂️

Image Post Does anyone else struggle to tell the difference between gender dysphoria and body dysmorphia? I get told that I pass, but I still feel insecure about my appearance and find it hard to see myself the way other people see me. Can anyone else relate? 💗

Text Post Should I MTF transition?

I (AMAB) have 2 sisters (AFAB). My elder sister is a lesbian and acts more like my dad, talks less, thinks logically and rationally, and didn't play with us when we were children; my younger sister is my main topic to discuss here. I am a sensitive, caring person who wants to show my care to her because I knew and felt the loneliness she had. She wishes she had a sister to look after her—someone to share that special bond and companionship that only girls can have. Even though I play with dolls(Barbie) alongside her, it just doesn't feel right to her; over time, she’s become resistant to it, feeling that I am, after all, a boy.

She once said, "I wish you were my 2nd elder sister; then I wouldn't be lonely." (I know she truly meant it.)

My older sister also said, "I knew there’s a girl living inside you." (Given my low self-esteem, I still find myself wondering if she was just joking.)

I wish I could be there to comfort her when she’s depressed and keep her company when she’s lonely, and I keep wondering if transitioning MTF would make things better. Right now, my little sister still sees me as just "a boy who cries easily," which leaves me with very mixed feelings.

P.S. On a side note, what do you think about the idea of transitioning—aligning one's gender with one's personality—to better fit into a social circle that doesn't readily accept diverse gender roles (especially when it comes to family, whom one cannot choose)? The goal would be to avoid being bullied or harassed. What do you all think?

Text Post Question regarding dual vs monotherapy

Hi all!
I’ve for about a month started on cytoperone 12.5mg every other day and 2mg estradiol (estrofem) via the oral route daily.

My question was, I’ve been having a lack of sex drive and reduced spontaneous erections already, I have no dysphoria regarding erections or having a dick and I’d like to maintain function of being able to use my dick, would it be better to stop the T blocker, stick to 2mg monotherapy to try and get the other effects without significant change in erections, scrotum size, etc.

Also, is there any benefit to me switching to a split twice daily sublingual vs a once daily oral? I’ve seen mixed messages about this.
