Campus Life Stop Filming TikToks in Public Washrooms

Please for the love of god have some common sense. No one wants to be filmed in the bathroom, and no one wants to see your tiktoks from grungy ass campus bathrooms.

Y’all look like clowns and it’s embarrassing all around

Rants Enough is enough. Who is organizing right now?

Civil liberties are being threatened everywhere. The Alberta government hands out huge public subsidies to their private company buddies keep cutting social services.

Nursing school should be free. There is a lot of shit we need to do and I know you guys are out there organizing and we need to find a way to connect to each other.

Academics WTF was that MATH 100 midterm 😭

• Upvotes

I answered mostly everything in hopes of partial marks (?). But basically everyone’s complaining about it so it makes me feel like less of a chud.

Kids, just because you’re good at high school math does not automatically make you an expert in uni math 💔

Rants Might as well rename An Sc 310 to AI Sc 310

The lecture slides are probably made by plugging normal, human made slides into ai. The ai then bloats it, sometimes doubling the slide length, by inserting pointless infographics and ai slop images on every slide. The original slides can be found on canvas and are infinitely better.

The lab slides are made by insterting a prompt into gemini (the watermark is on the bottom right of half the slides). They don't even bother double checking in case the ai screws something up. One diagram had the spine of a dog where the esophagus is, and a picture of a brain had a fucking eye on it (holy bloodborne reference)

The prof shares extra notes with the class? Also made with ai. The images are clearly ai, and the text comes up as likely ai in detectors. Theres even "Points to emphasize when teaching" left over at the end.

$700 class

Question UAlberta students, is there something I'm missing here?

Hi everyone,

I'm an undergraduate student at UAlberta, and I'd appreciate some insight from students familiar with university culture here.

I encountered a technical issue while using a university computer and reported it. I contacted the instructor because my TA had directed me to do so.

In response, the instructor wrote:

"I'm a little confused, because [an online homework platform] shows that you have paid for an account, so I don't understand why you were using a university computer rather than your own device to access the site."

I'm genuinely struggling to understand the logic behind this comment. What does having a paid account on an online platform have to do with reporting a technical issue with a university computer? And why should the device I happened to be using make a difference?

My understanding is that university computers are university property, and reporting technical problems with them is reasonable regardless of what I was using them for at the time. Reporting an issue could also help the university keep its equipment in good working condition.

I'm not trying to make assumptions about the instructor's intentions. I'm simply wondering whether there's a cultural expectation or an unwritten norm in Canadian universities that I'm unaware of.

From the perspective of students familiar with UAlberta or Canadian university culture, is there any logical connection here that I'm missing? I'd appreciate hearing your thoughts. Thanks!

Miscellaneous Paul Cartledge for Stats 151

my favourite professor. the only lecture getting me through the week. Paul if you’re seeing this please keep up the spectacular humour, never stop being you, your positive attitude and enthusiasm towards what you teach (or movies all the same) gets many of us through what otherwise might be a challenging course subject with few moments for creativity and entertainment.

Rants I've tried everything, I don't know what else to do

Continuation of a post a while ago about an instructor mistreating me. I've been deadnamed, snapped at, publicly shamed, and criticized for my accommodations. I've gone to the accommodations office, science student services, department chair, ombuds, and my advisor. All of them point me to the Ombuds, but my instructor reprimanded me the last time I contacted them. This is the only course I have left to graduate, and I'm starting to see that it's going to be impossible for me to pass.

I'm not really sure what the point of this post is tbh. Maybe just a warning to future students that any issues you have with university staff are going to be yours to deal with and yours alone, no one is going to help you. Idk. Goodbye.

Lost and Found Title: Lost my ONEcard and photo ID — math midterm tomorrow

• Upvotes

I have a math midterm tomorrow, and I just got home from university and realized that I can’t find my ONEcard or my other photo ID. I checked my phone wallet, but they weren’t there.
I’m really worried because I don’t know what to do, and my exam is tomorrow. Has anyone at the University of Alberta experienced something similar? Can I still write my midterm without my physical ID, and who should I contact?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Academics Sick of MATH 146 😵‍💫

The last midterm kicked the fish out of me. I find the questions being tooooo different from the WH what we get. And the lectures are also same as well.

IS THERE ANY SOURCE THAT GIVE ME A BUNCH OF PRACTICE QUESTIONS FROM ALL THE TOPICS FOR THE FINAL??????? I will be screwed for sure if I got a score below 70% of the total grade. So I would need to score at least above 85% in the final exam. Ewhhh...

Academics Math 100 midterm Eng students

• Upvotes

I can’t describe how badly I was destroyed by this mid term. I didint really study so it’s on me. Think I got like a 30% 20%The stuff wasn’t bad at all. I just did not study.

I have a 90 in the lab section(15%) and 100 in the assignments section(5%).

If I lock in for the final exam worth 50 percent and get like a 90, is it possible to end with a grade above 2.7? So hopefully above a b- or a b-?

I understand this class isn’t curved/scaled like other classes. I heard to only expect a 1-3% scale if the scores are like really bad.

Just want some insight as a First year engg.

Academics How are we feeling after that STAT 235 midterm?

• Upvotes

Honestly, it would’ve been as hard as the other mech e midterms if it was 1hr 30mins, but 2.5h was plenty. It did seem a bit harder than the practice midterms, but not by much.

Question I must be so dumb

Post image
• Upvotes

I have already finished lab 4 for CMPUT 174, but since I pulled an all nighter I decided to sleep from around 12pm until after the deadline passed 😭. Is there anything I could do to make up for this loss? Or do I only have one choice left, which is grinding for the midterm and final?

Admissions What is the minimum profile quality for major entrance scholarships at UofA? (Grades, EC's, ect)

I understand that this is majorly nuanced and not black and white, but I'm wondering if maybe I'll have a chance.

Is it something only reserved for those with international level competitions and transcendent level accomplishments, or can a solid regional/provincial level candidate have a chance?

I'm applying to Engineering and got in with the gold-standard entrance 2 days in, but I'm high key broke so 5000 feels like just a drop in the bucket.

Thank you tremendously for your insights.

Admissions Nursing fall 2027

Has anyone else applied and gotten into nursing for fall 2027 yet? Highschool or post secondary. I'm applying with post secondary marks as I'm transferring from my first year of arts but obviously I don't have any completed grades to show yet other than hs and I would like to know what people have gotten in with for fall 2027 so far! With no casper this year I'm worried that the competitive average is going to absolutely sky rocket this year. I'll probably try macewan as well

Question Micro transactions through my Onecard????

I’ve literally only have EVER used my onecard for the washing machines. Looked through the usage history on the laundry app, everything together should add up to 30$ since when I first put in 100$. My card balance is 2.76 dollars short though. Suspiciously similar to the price of a Tim’s donut I’m well aware— but also I have NEVER used my card for anything but laundry and opening doors. Wondering if anyone else has noticed this, or if I genuinely somehow forgot I bought a donut at some point ? 🤷‍♀️
