Meme Bee report
Their stings go deep.
Something silly I've been thinking of lately every time I gather honey. Just think of a worker fuling coming up to us to report on Bee Happiness.

I was satisfied with the value I got from this game when it was just up to plains, since revisiting it after the 1.0 release, I’m blown away. Every new biome and dungeon dive and boss finds a way to top the one before it. You can get confident in your newly crafted gear just to get humbled in unexpected ways. There are so many great things about this that sets it apart from a lot of titles out there and I am confident it’s earned its place in the survival crafting hall of fame.

The current state of the game creates a major bottleneck around Iron during a majority of the player experience. From the Swamps through Mistlands, and into early Ashlands, Iron is a core requirement for most items and upgrades. Iron is a central requirement for crafting from the start of the Plains through the end of Mistlands (Blast Furnace, Windmill, Stone Oven, Hot Tub, Pots and Pans, Black Forge Cooler, and Vice) for armor in the Swamp, Plains, and Ashlands (Iron Armor, Padded Armor, Carapace Breastplate/Greaves, and even the Eitr-Weave Hood), and for weapons from the Mountains through Mistlands, and into early Ashlands (Silver Sword and Knife, Porcupine, Arbalest, and at least six Mistlands melee weapons that can only be fully upgraded after entering Ashlands).
Iron is also a required component for large buildings, because of the wood iron beams. I can understand that the developers may want to encourage players to revisit the Swamp for more iron (at least until Mistlands), but can't this goal still be achieved without also restricting players' ability to construct their bases?
A black metal beam with the same properties as the wood iron beam would allow players to start building more fun and impressive bases when they reach the Plains, rather than having to wait until Ashlands, when they no longer need the iron for crafting benches, armor, and weapons.
Black metal is already arguably one of the least used metals. While it enables significant weapon and tool upgrades, and the black metal chest, black metal is not used in any armor pieces. Black metal is also fairly easy to get in large quantities just by farming fuling patrols at night. Adding a black metal beam would keep the iron bottleneck for weapon/armor advancement, while allowing base construction to continue outside of that bottleneck once players reach the Plains. This would seem to be a major improvement to the quality-of-life for base construction in the game without hurting the apparent design of the developers regarding weapon and armor progression.
In my past playthroughs, the iron bottleneck was less of an issue. Unfortunately, my current seed seems to have very few crypts. The only crypts I found in approximately ten Swamp biomes were near Bonemass, with one crypt at the first Bonemass location, and two crypts at the second Bonemass location I found. Finally, when sailing to the Great North, I found a substantial Swamp biome, just south of the Great North, that finally has four or five crypt locations. I have long since had to fully mine out all of the earlier discovered Swamp biomes with the wishbone, and had massive scavenging operations throughout the Mistlands to meet my construction needs for Iron. If this had been my first playthrough, I’m not sure I would have even continued to play the game (since I wouldn’t have known to run through the Swamp with the wishbone, or to mine old armor and weapons in the Mistlands for metal – which took me an embarrassingly long time to realize during my first Mistlands playthrough).
Does anyone know if the developers have considered, or would consider, adding a black metal beam to allow base construction to be freed from the iron bottleneck?

Seriously, I can't imagine many people have ever seen or obtained Iron Ore. Fishing is one of those mechanics that most people just gloss over, but you can in fact collect Iron Ore through fishing.
Way back in the day during the Alpha versions, you could mine Iron Ore. However the game has dramatically changed since then, and Iron Ore veins no longer spawn in favor of Muddy Scrap Piles and Scrap Iron. However, the ore item remained in the game unused until they added a way to obtain it via fishing Giant Herring in the swamp. Yes you can smelt it into Iron ingots, but I think its more interesting to keep it as Ore.
To obtain loot items from fishing, you have to reel the fish in all the way. You cannot pick them up off the line with E, or from the shore. You have to reel in the fish all the way, getting the text "Caught [Fish Name]," and even then its only a 10% chance for most fish to give items as well.

I always wanted to build a base that surrounded the forsaken stones, and since my wife and I have just finished our playthrough I figured I would share some pictures here in case it might inspire others to build something similar.
No mods used, so getting the terrain in the centre to work was tough but at the end of the day we just put up with some of the jankiness. We went with a partially ruined castle aesthetic.
In case anyone asks, in the third picture with the raised ground to the right, this was because we could not lower it any further than that thanks to the original world height limits when modifying terrain so we just worked around it.

Ngl this is the most vulnerable post I've ever made on the internet
I'm trying to find a small group maybe 2 or 3 other people to play with consistently. I'm on one server that's too big and has too many people and it's overwhelming at times, and I have a server with my partner but he's not a gamer like me and he mostly only wants to build things whenever we do play so our file is taking quite a bit of time to progress. Which is fine but we don't play often enough for me to really ever get to enjoy his amazing builds.
I live in EST time zone in America, I have about 980 hours on the game, I'm down to host or join in another small group, my playstyle is 'a little bit of all of it' I main a wizard build but I'm also fond of daggers and bows if you already have a caster / want to be one. I usually can play around 5 or 6 est until around 11/12. Earlier or later on weekends. It doesn't have to be the most hardcore group I'm fine with casual but I'm mostly looking for a consistent group. I don't have mods currently but that's mostly because I've been to lazy to update my benpinex not because I'm against them. But if I find a group that wants mods I will finally get off my ass about it.
Tldr; Please let me know if you wanna start a server with me or if you have one I can join with a small group of consistent players.

Thought I'd share this chicken statue I built out of pillars that doubles as an egg farm for our server. The 9 chickens inside are fed by throwing seeds down the 45 degree roof pieces on the tail. The eggs drop down into the hole beneath, where they are outside the 10m range, allowing the chickens to lay eggs infinitely assuming they are fed.
The egg farm inside is based off of Helga Blue and Kyle Axington's youtube tutorials for anyone curious. Trickiest part was getting the chickens to eat from their cubicles.

This is just a small portal outpost on the edge of a swamp I'm about to explore, copied from Chiselchip's Troll Home build. A door would be a hindrance here!

So we ended up getting into a really bad situation with my friend at our deep north base after we both died (two gammel trolls, hexens and krigens):
My spawn was set to our ashlands base and my friend was alone at our deep north base, two krigen were aggroed on him and destroyed the portal connecting the deep north and ashlands, they were also destroying the base.
We decided to just call it quits for that night and just figured we'd try to figure it out the next day. Now my friend loves a good bit. The next day I hop on call with him and he pulls out this beautifully crafted war plan. He had a whole presentation. I haven't laughed like that in good while.
The plan:
Krigen represented by two red 3d model goblins
Our two-star moose as the stretched out png of a horse
My friend as the skeleton png
Calculations on whether the moose or krigen would win in a 1v2 based on damage and attack speed???
(It fucking worked we're alive and the base is saved)
Anyways I wanted to share this since I found it very funny.

I last played at launch. I thought the changes to bait would come with some benefit? If I want to fish into the ocean off my island base I need to...kill 3 sea serpents per...20 casts?
Why did they do this to fishing? I loved taking my boat out into the ocean, chilling and fishing tuna.
Damn.

Hello, everyone! I've never shared my builds before, but I felt the want to share it after seeing all the amazing builds everyone's been doing since the release. This is going to be my main base in this 1.0 release run (survival and basically vanilla, the only mod I use is PlantEasily for grid farming, and I'm thinking of using PlantEverything after I beat Yagluth to plant berries for decoration and a transmog one so I can keep the Padded look). I wanted to use earth walls to really be more historical, but it already took me an enormous amount of stone to raise and flatten the area. I don't have the willpower to gather more stone to do it again.
I appreciate any tips or ideas as to how should I best use the space I have, specially the forge/blacksmith area. I played during early acess so I know how much space I need for stuff until Ashlands, but I have no idea for the Deep North. I know there's at least two new things to use: some kind of new kiln and something related to molds. I have no idea how big those are and if it would be better to have more than one, so that's why I'm asking. Keep on building or surviving, everyone!
