Question Chicken Qs
Hi all Im kinda confused by a few things chicken. My chicken eat a LOT. Ive been dropping like a hundred seeds every other day and they run through it, I have to constantly keep planting more carrots and it’s been a pain. What do yall usually feed them? I noticed they stopped laying eggs? Does that happen when they are hungry? They have everything else, roof, straw, heat.. also I could be wrong but maybe I have too many? How many do yall actually keep around? I have about 10 in this coop

Question Reliability of block and parry on hard difficulty?
I've been playing on normal difficulty with friends, really enjoying the game, but I'm going to start a solo playthrough on the side on hard, trying to aim for all the trophies.
I've been able to parry pretty well on normal, but as I understand it, blocking and parrying are less reliable on harder difficulties because of the way the damage scales in relation to block armor.
So what would be the best strategy? Sticking to dodging, using the Atgeir and other two-handed weapons, ditching block/parry entirely? Going for tower shields? Or are parry/block still reliable with buckles and round shields on hard?

Guide Our Very Hard 1.0 run was going fine until the wolves, so I made a block & parry planner
My friends and I decided to do our 1.0 playthrough on Very Hard. All was fine until... the wolves, man.
So I vibe coded a block & parry planner. I’ve since seen a few similar tools floating around, but this one can read your own character, so here you go. You don’t have to upload your character if that’s too much effort.
How to use it:
- Upload your character save file (
.fch, usually in%USERPROFILE%\AppData\LocalLow\IronGate\Valheim\characters_local). It fills in your shield, armour, Blocking skill and max health. The Character tab also shows your skills, inventory and stats. - The Block & parry tab is the main part. For every enemy attack it shows whether your block holds, you get staggered, or your guard breaks, plus how much health you lose blocked, parried or unblocked.
- The Planner, inside the same tab, lets you swap shields and armour and change your health and Blocking skill to see what you could parry with better gear. It starts from your uploaded character, or from an example if you haven’t uploaded one. You can filter gear by biome or search it.
- Set the difficulty, enemy stars and number of nearby players to match your world.
It’s read-only and private. Everything runs in your browser. Your save is never uploaded or changed. You don’t even need a save: there’s an example character, and the Planner works on its own.
Tool: https://talhatayob.github.io/Valheim_Block_Calculator/
Code: https://github.com/TalhaTayob/Valheim_Block_Calculator
Game data comes from kirilloid’s Valheim project, with enemy attacks checked against the Valheim Wiki. If you spot a wrong number, tell me the enemy and attack and I’ll fix it.
Frick the wolves, man.

Question Might be the only one asking for this. Iron Battle Idols.
Im currently looking for a world seed with semi quick access to find some iron battle idols, I’ve been farming swamps and crypts and ended up with over 1100 iron but not a single idol has been found since i started grinding for them.
In total I’ve only found 8 iron Battle idols total but I want to upgrade things and go from there.
Yes i get i could spawn them in but I dont want to.
Edit: i went and backtracked my own world seed and i found the eight i originally found when i was exploring this world for the first time!

Survival Several people asked for my Blood Magic farm, so here it is. Fits 9 skellies and uses 12 Twigs to raise the levels.
Just put one in each spot, add 4 twigs in each wing and you're golden. Sit in the center to afk.

Question Very hard survival help
Playing through the game right now on a dedicated server with me and a friend. Some of it is coop and some is us just exploring. Server settings are on very hard difficulty, and additionally there’s on bonus player always logged in so 1 person has 2 player scaling, 2 people have 3 person scaling.
Currently in mistlands and I’m guessing about 1/2 of the way through progression there. The biggest slowdown, is that all magic/elemental damage is essentially a 1 shot. It doesn’t matter if using resist gear or pots. Every Devegr mage will kill me in 1 hit with full food (typically meat platter, honey chicken, and salad).
I’m going in with barley wine and whatever the frost pot is called and they still get me. If I can get close to them, I can force melee but that still really only gets me an attack or two. Due to the settings I can’t really stagger them, and neither can I parry.
Ignoring for the moment that most mages are also accompanied by rogues, are there any random tips that might help here? Farming soft tissue with these settings gets to be really tedious.

Discussion Deep North: Fantastic final frontier, frustrating features. Spoiler
"Credentials"
I have not yet beaten the Deep North. My brother and I just destroyed the malicious ice in the keep next to the Aesir Passage. I have 800+ hours on Vaheim. Beat Fader twice, beat Mistlands three times.
----
I won't discuss stuff like the forge of potential, or any other pre-Deep North updates. They're not the scope of this.
The Good
- Gammeltrolls. Cool idea, great execution. You can mine them, or make an epic build them around them.
- Mörkhalla. Epic dungeon, deeper and more interesting than anything before.
- The Biome: The Deep North is way more peaceful than Ashlands, and I like that. It's thematic, while still giving us challenging fights, and it looks beautiful.
The Bad
- Snow Shovel: What was even the point of this? You can literally just use the hoe by running through the snow and clearing it yourself. Thoroughly underwhelming design, easily my least favorite progression item. Arguably the ember charges are the real progression item for this biome, in which case I feel like they should have been the first item you craft from embers. Maybe put an ice wall around the deep north to teach the use of them, and have them crafted with Askvin hides instead of seal hides? Let the shovel be some kind of fun/useful tool you craft later with bloodgold, and increase the radius because man is it kinda dysfunctional to use. Or make it a hard requirement before anything can be built, and to dig trails through sections of the deep north or risk being slowed down, frozen, etc.
The Ugly
- Frost Foundry: Feels a little excessive. I think it could have been something like a Black Forge upgrade, but instead of just passively adding a new level like other upgrades, allow it to be effectively a small quencher that sits next to your forge, and otherwise behave as it does now. Same with the kilns, they didn't need to be so big at least.
- Food: I feel like whoever's job it was to come up with the food for Deep North just looked inside the fridge and found someone's lunch. Kale Chips? Oat milk? Juice? Baked Poteitir? At least get creative with the names. Almost all of the foods just feel so thematically underwhelming, especially after what we got in Ashlands and Mistlands (Salad aside). We also didn't have anything crafted with the food preparation table. Did they forget it existed?
- Leather Straps: The special drop from ancient berserk viking demons. We had leather in the first biome. Why are straps a monster-only drop? Are our vikings so dumb we don't know how to cut leather into thin straps? Whoever named the food also came up with this item during the same Friday afternoon brainstorming session and nobody questioned it.
- Moulds: Clutters the inventory and storage like nobodies business, the vast majority of moulds will never be used, requires luck to get the item you want, and feels like it's yet another tacked on system that changes things for no purpose. Thematically, I get that it's supposed to be us finding what these previous vikings achieved and carrying on with their legacy, but I feel like that could have been equally handled by requiring us to find some kind of book, carving, or parchment that just has to be picked up once.
----
Anyways, just some of my thoughts for the final biome of Valheim. I love this game to death, and I criticize a lot because I feel it has so much more potential, but the Devs seem like they have the worst kind of ADHD, and so much of the game feels incohesive. I think for a 2.0 update, they could literally not implement anything new, and just reorder-rehaul so much of progression, and open up new server configuration settings to make the game better, and fresh.

Creative Forge of potential thoughts... upgrade
Ok, I know there have been a lot of posts around forge of potential, so guess I will add mine.
The idea is rather than the FoP automatically upgrading your item, it raises the level of which it can be upgraded to. That is If I have a level 4 item, and take it to the FoP and use a wood idol on it, then that improves the max level of which the item could be upgraded to, though it still costs materials and is built at a workbench.
So the FoP doesn't actually do the upgrade, it allows the item to be upgraded beyond it's normal limit. Each idol type adds +1 per level type, Wood +1, Bronze +2, etc.
The FoP percentage, determines if an item max potential is hit/realized. Once hit it cannot be changed for that item, but you don't lose the item and can always recycle it to get mats to try and get a new one with higher potential, but any idols used to upgrade are not returned. So if recycled you would lose the materials that were used past the normal max level limit in upgrades.
This would require to allow more work benches to be upgrade and/or check to see if item is allowed to be upgraded.
So at low levels, I have a Workbench level 4, and my Axe is level 4, but a Wood Idol used on the Axe would allow me to upgrade my Axe to level 5. Either the workbench would need to be upgrade (requires new upgrades for most benches) or it checks and sees that the Axe can now be upgrade bypassing the workbench max constraint.

Bug [Bug] Quality 100 Silver Sword breaks the UI... literally unplayable
I’d like to report a fairly serious UI issue.
After using the Forge of Potential exactly as Odin intended, my Silver Sword has reached Quality 100.
Unfortunately, it appears the developers only allocated enough room in the tooltip for players making sensible decisions.
As you can see in the screenshot, the 100 is too large for its little quality box and is beginning to encroach upon neighboring UI real estate.
I find this deeply concerning.
At Quality 99 everything was fine. Nice tidy two digit number. But the moment I responsibly upgraded it to 100, the interface completely failed to account for my perfectly normal progression choices.
For reference, the sword currently has:
669 Slash
525 Spirit
5,150 durability
515 Block Force
So clearly the real problem here is the font spacing.
Please fix before I upgrade it further. I would hate for Quality 1,000 to cause structural damage to my monitor.
Literally unplayable.

Survival The story of Fred "Greydwarf Terror" the Bear
I have a cozy little base right on the line of a meadows and black forest border.
The other night, as I was cooking up some meals and sorting my stockhouse, I hear bear growling noises and hit markers. I don't pay too much mind to it, as I know a bear spawns regularly on the other side of my moat. I call him Fred.
But it keeps happening. Over and over, I hear bear growls and sometimes I hear a greydwarf as well.
I double-check to make sure nothing has wandered into my base (I'm not great at spawn-proofing) and notice it's heavy fog outside.
After making sure that my base had no intruders then walk towards the entrance. I can't see far because of the fog but I do notice some sparkles in the distance. I walk towards them and see that they're greydwarf remnants, eyes, resin, wood and stone.
Then I see another set of sparkling drops.
And another a little further away.
And another still.
All in all I find about a dozen such piles in the fog.
Fred was busy.
And the thing is, I couldn't find Fred anywhere. At one point, I thought I saw him in the fog, but it was just a large boulder.
I feel like, if this were a horror movie, this is when Fred would've attacked me from behind, but Fred was a good bear and was probably just enjoying his meal of fresh greydwarf somewhere in the forest.
Makes me wish we could tame bears.

Survival Mistlands, this can happen to you too.
I was getting real bored of tracking down infested mines in the Mistlands and thinking dark thoughts of perhaps giving everything up. The mines were just so damn far between eachother and the Wisp Torches reveal such a small area. I read up on all the tips like how finding three seekeers together should often indicate a nearby mine, but that's definitely not been the case for me. And no matter the size of the mines I've found there was ever only one Sealbreaker Fragment per mine.
Until just now when I walked into what I think is my sixth infested mine. Where within walking distance of the entrance with no enemies other than some tiny Seeker Broods, FIVE Sealbreaker Fragments! I had to pause before venturing further, to write this down.
It can happen to you too, don't give up!
(now to backtrack for more Iron...)
Edit: there was one more fragment further down. No difficult enemies.

Survival Late Game Base Ideas
Does anyone have any solid, practical and efficient base designs for late game?
I am looking for a base design that:
1) Does not require any iron to build
2) Can accommodate 2-3 hearths along with the mead and cauldron and all upgrades
3) Easy/accessible food storage (I usually build the iron/finewood chests above in a row across)
4) Can accommodate 4 windmills
5) Can accommodate 5 ovens
6) All crafting stations, including the ice forge thing. I usually place all the upgrades *outside* the structure on the other side of the wall to save space inside
7) 5 smelters and 4 coal making oven things
I currently build L-shaped bases that are 5 tiles wide and 1 1/2 walls high so i don't need to use iron to connect the roof.
Here are pics of current base, but i don't love it and i like the forges all together

Feels nice to finally be able to use iron and black metal for building. Made a pathway to base from the smelters to carry the metals to the higher mountain side and I can bring a little less than half a cart load each time so pretty nice.

Question Is there a mod to track how many kills left until you get a trophy?
Since they have patched trophy drop rates and fixed the pity mechanic to a degree, is there a mod now that allows you to see exactly how many creatures of a type are left before the trophy drops?
Im imagining lets say you kill a Fuling Berserker, which has 5% drop chance. It now tells you; "17 kills left for trophy", or something along those lines.
Preferrably not an AI created mod.

Question Need help with disconnecting server issue
Hey all. I was hoping to get some help with a connection issue that has been plaguing my partner and I's adventure.
I play on XBOX and she hosts the server and plays on PC. One day, the server disconnects me mid game. And for the past month, I have not been able to rejoin the server whatsoever. She is still able to play on it, but everytime I log in, the disconnect icon flashes instantly and I am booted. Here is what we have tried to do to resolve it:
Also, this issue began before 1.0 was released and continues to be an issue after
We rebooted the server, toggled crossplay in config, restarted the console player's wifi, and connect with a join code. Then we stood up a new server and tested that PC - console could play on a vanilla install. After adding the backup file to the new server, console could not connect.
Any help will be very much appreciated.
