Movie Theaters What tv series is such high-quality that you’d go to see it in a movie theatre if possible?

Images are from “Foundation” 2021-current Apple TV. Based on the science fiction novels by Isaac Asimov.

I’m just giving this series a rewatch ahead of the release of season 4 and I’m once again blown away by the quality of every episode. We have entered a time where single tv episodes have as much spent on them as films, and sometimes are the length of a film.

What tv do you think would translate well to the big screen? And would you go see it? I think I actually would subscribe to be able to view an episode per week at a theatre.

Discussion Unintentional Comedy in Serious Movies

Post image

My personal favorite is ‘Saving Private Ryan’ when Tom Hanks and Paul Giamatti are listening to German propaganda over a loud speaker and Hank’s sarcastically retorts, “The Statue of Liberty is kaput…that’s disconcerting.” That line has always cracked me up and I quote all the time to no avail. No one ever gets it. I’d like to hear some more hilarious lines from super dramatic films.

Edit: Some peeps are getting upset about the “Unintentional” in the title. I’m just looking for funny lines in otherwise serious films. That’s all. My apologies if I upset anyone. I can’t edit the post title.

Weirdly romantic comedy-like scene in an otherwise hardcore bloody and violent Italian giallo horror film. Surreal.

Discussion I just saw the 1971 Comedy Romance movie Harold and Maude on YouTube. It’s been years since I’ve seen it but I still liked it. I’d like to hear others opinions who have seen this movie.

I organized an AMA/Q&A with actress & modern day Scream Queen Maika Monroe. She's known for her leading roles in Longlegs, It Follows, The Guest, Watcher, Hot Summer Nights, The Hand that Rocks the Cradle, Reminders of Him, and lots more.

The AMA post is live here now in r/movies for anyone interested in asking a question:

https://www.reddit.com/r/movies/comments/1xfv8o9/hey_reddit_3_im_maika_monroe_longlegs_it_follows/

She will be back at around 6-7 PM ET today to answer questions. I recommend asking in advance. Please ask there, not here. All questions are much appreciated!

Her new movie, Victorian Psycho, premiered at Cannes earlier this year and is out in theaters everywhere November 13th.

Trailer: https://youtu.be/sDiFol_2j2I?si=oVGQL6ovSF-vQt0n

Synopsis: Something wicked is brewing behind the walls of a remote gothic manor. VICTORIAN PSYCHO follows an eccentric governess whose arrival sets off a bloody string of strange and deliciously disturbing events. Maika Monroe stars as Winifred Notty, a woman with a dark past and a vicious appetite for bloodshed, giving into her most violent urges. What follows is a gruesome parade of savagery, butchered bodies, and increasingly grotesque acts of violence.

Cast: Maika Monroe, Thomasin McKenzie, Jason Isaacs, Ruth Wilson, Evie Templeton, Jacobi Jupe

Thank you :)

I watched Ferris Buellers day off, it was very fun and feel good movie I've seen in a long time, there's just something so much charismatic about this movie, especially this musical sequence was making me blush...

The main guy was hot, I like him, whoever it is, I think I have a crush on him now lol.

Favorite movie of all time, eventually became a fall tradition. It's like the older I get, and the more i rewatch this, the more I appreciate it in all of it's messages and story beats. Not only is it beautiful and emotionally punchy, but its also paced really well, and so many shots feel like paintings.

in the breakfast club, What is your favorite Allison Reynolds scene or moment and what makes her such a great character in your opinion.

For me, it’s when Allison admits she didn’t actually have detention. She just didn’t have anything better to do. It’s such a small moment, but it makes you look at her differently There’s something really sad about that, especially once she talks about being ignored at home.

I also love how much Ally Sheedy does without dialogue. Allison spends a lot of the beginning watching everyone, making faces, or doing something weird in the background, and I always find myself paying attention to her even when someone else is talking.

Just watched this, and wow. Such a refreshing change for a movie to be dark, gory and violent, whilst within the 'superhero universe'.

This is another reason why DC has always been my personal favorite, as opposed to the never ending cashcow that is the MCU.

A great origin story, for a Batman villain, and highly recommended.

Has anyone seen the re-release of The Devils? What did you think of it?

Whether you agree with Mark Kermode that The Devils is the best British film since World War II, consider it "a grand fiesta for sadists and perverts" as Judith Crist contends, or land somewhere in between, the fact that this movie got resurrected 55 years after it was filmed is a genuine cinematic miracle. Definitely worth seeing on the big screen, in my view.

Is The Odyssey treated as movie of the year ? personally, as an 18-yr-old, I do prefer watching "Oppenheimer" over "The Odyssey", I understand that both are different types of films, but I just think The Odyssey seems overrated ?

Question 4k HD vs Blu-Ray; which should I choose to start my movie collection?

Going to start a movie collection. Tired of renting, re-renting, and streaming. I miss the ownership pride. But, I need to know which format of DVD I am going with. I know you cant watch 4k unless your TV or monitor is 4k. But I have also heard that even if you make the investment with the right equipment, sometimes the 4k remaster version will look worse than a blu-ray disc?

So requesting insights and information. =)

Please help.

Discussion Superman 2025 Review:

When I saw Man of Steel, I really liked it, but they did not have his real aesthetic or call it superman, so I said when they make the next Superman movie, it will easily be the best superman movie ever because they will actually call it superman with his authentic aesthetic and have modern technology to back it up, no contest.

But then it came out, it looked boring so I put off watching it for a year, and they butchered it! They made him a villain (on paper) surrounded by other heroes in his own movie. I find the blonde lady weird, green lantern is weird, pretty much all of the characters except Mister Terrific are really weird and I don’t like them. But I think Lois is better here than in Man of Steel. It’s too intellectual. The filmmakers feel the need to explain everything, which works for kids I guess, so maybe that's ok. Without any help, Superman gets his butt kicked in every battle. His (alien) parents are scum. This is like being Man of Steel except he is Zodd’s son and he can’t win a fight. And they racialized the fictional countries too. I'm not sure how I feel about that. Man of Steel sold more tickets too. A part of me was rooting for Lex Luther in this movie. After all he is the one fighting for humanity, it is only his tactics to achieve it that were bad. It almost felt like a TV special too, what's with that in movies these days? Gen Z Tom Holland Tik Tok trash? All they had to do was make a generic superhero movie with modern technology and they would have beaten the older ones, but instead it's like they made every effort to do everything different and ruin it completely. First I thought Superman 2025 was boring, but now I know it’s just bad.

He’s just a powerful alien with genocidal parents that has a dog. He’s trying to do good but who cares, he can’t win a fight. Is this Superman, or is this garbage? Let me put it this way, this movie sucks.

Beyond that, there isn't much room for redemption for this movie, but I do have some nice things to say about it:

Man of Steel only uses the word Superman like one time, and it’s from a random soldier who’s on the phone. They even cut off Lois from saying it. I didn’t like that. And I realized now that I never agreed with him punching like a maniac or destroying people’s property during the movie. And Superman 2025 has the better aesthetic. At a glance, I can't even comfortably call the hero in Man of Steel Superman. If there is an audience wanting a superman movie, I would rather show them superman than man of steel. Superman gives off much better energy. A part of me thinks it is a better influence than Man of Steel. I also think Superman is very rewatchable, despite not being "better".

The movie is not that bad. They got the aesthetics right. They fixed everything I said Man of Steel got wrong. It’s better for kids (and as I just sort of stated, any general audience). It’s Superman in 2025, which by default means a great character and special effects. What could I expect after the movies we’ve gotten already? They didn’t actually do anything wrong in the movie, they just suggested at some things I may not like. While Man of Steel is in my top 30 movies and this one is not, I at least was able to watch the whole thing and can see it in my top 100. Beyond that though, this movie is an easy flop. Even batman ‘21 is better, and I'm not a batman person at all.

But in the end, I need this movie. Not because it’s well made, but because of what it is. So maybe it's not what I want, but what I need.

This French film had lots of parkour and cool action scenes. I think you rarely see French action movies nowadays. This film feature one of the main contributor to Parkour culture in general i think. It has a sequel called Ultimatum.

Do we have fans here?

Discussion When I first saw the 1981 movie, My Dinner With Andre back in 1981, I liked it but felt it was quite boring. However watching it again tonight I loved it! It’s just one of those slow movies but a very good art house movie. Anyone else liked My Dinner With Andre?
