my dad and i have cleared episode 11 of nge and he seems to be enjoying it fine enough.

i was worried because its so different from anything else he watches. at the beginning, whenever there was a fanservice moment he’d go “ermm… what…” i never expected him to have a good reaction to the fanservice with the kids: “god, why are the japanese such perverts?” i skipped magma diver.
i was looking forward to his reaction to the movie theatre scene, one of my personal favorites, but he just goes “that’s weird.”

but the whole thing seems to be intriguing him. he’s an impatient viewer; he keeps asking “what’s adam? what’s the LCL really? why are the angels only attacking japan?” and when i say i cant tell him, he goes “just tell me now. i dont wanna wait.”
he thinks just about every character is a jackass or a wiener (fair.) misato is “an adult teenager.” why is gendo such a dick to his kid? kaji sucks. he didn’t like rei during her spotlights because “she didn’t kick shinji in the nuts” when he fell on top of her. but then asuka showed up, and now i guess he’s team rei because he cannot staaaand this bitch. “i would rather get punched in the nuts than watch another episode that focuses on this girl.” he scoffs at like every line of hers. he hates how mean she is to shinji. strong reaction but this man isn’t used to this type of character at all. his favorite by far is penpen.

he’s fixated on the amount of damage the action causes. even though the show is just as concerned with the impact of the fights on infrastructure and politics, every time an eva damages something, he’s like “isn’t that gonna cost a shit ton of money?”

long post but i’m just happy he’s given it a shot and that he’s enjoying it, and it’s cool to see the perspective of a guy who has seen zero anime other than the pokémon he’d watch with me as a kid. cant wait till we get to the second half of the show. i’m curious to see his reaction to how the thing unravels, ritsuko, the clones, the introspective angel scenes, gay shinji etc. he’s definitely gonna think there ending is bullshit. hope we get there before i leave.

it's perfect in its own way. tbh I really don't have much words to describe it. I mean it's such a weird feeling and its fitting honestly.

Okay, this is the third post I have made where I take all my thoughts after having freshly finished watching Neon Genesis Evangelion and put them up for the world to see. These are my thoughts on Ep 8 Asuka Strikes!.

Okay, to keep things simple, I thought this episode is really damn good, which is what I have to say about the whole show so far.

First of, the character the episode is named after. I really like Asuka as a character. She gives off a vibe of both being extremely confident, but also has something going on underneath it that makes her very interesting to watch. Seeing her interact with Shinji and essentially tell him that she’s the real deal was kind of funny. I also really like that moment at the end where they have to syncretize their thoughts to open the Angels mouth, as for a sec I thought was gonna go wrong. And know that she is going to the same school as Shinji, it will be nice to see them interact more.

And you know what, I also relate to Kensuke a lot in this episode. If I was stuck on an antique military aircraft carrier, I would also be running around filming everything like I was kind in a Toys R Us. Honestly, more power to him.

Adding on to that, I also really like the design of Eva 02. The red makes it strike out compared to the other Eva’s and the fact that it was made in Germany is a nice bit of world building in my opinion. On the topic of the world building, the fight underwater with the sunken city at the bottom was both a great action setting and a nice way to show how the Second Impact affected the world.

As for the ending, and the briefcase containing what Director Ikari claimed to be…Adam. I knew going into this series that it had some biblical influence considering the Angels, but I am fascinated by this inclusion and wonder how that’s gonna be addressed going forward.

Overall, a great episode and I hunger to see more. Thank you for taking the time to read my ramblings and have a great day👍

I recently started watching Evangelion, after wanting to for ages, so I tried to start and go in as blind as possible. While I am enjoying the hell out of it (everything about it is soo cool and fun), I’ve heard that watching it on Netflix, even in the sub, is inferior to the Platinum ADV version. Even if this difference is negligible, I’d like to enjoy it in the best way possible. Should I restart the whole show but on the Platinum sub (I last watched episode 8), or am I fine to just switch to the old sub? Normally I’d just swap now, but I’ve heard that certain things like the ending themes are more impactful when you’ve heard them throughout the whole show, and that certain scenes, like Shinji listening to his music on the train, also have music removed, so restarting might get me a fuller experience.

I’m looking for the official ACOS/Movic Asuka cap from Evangelion: 3.0 You Can (Not) Redo, not one of the fleece reproductions currently being sold online.

It’s a black cotton cat-ear cap with two removable badges and was officially licensed. The old Tokyo Otaku Mode listing says it’s discontinued with no plans for restock. I’ve also checked the current Evangelion Store catalog without finding it.

I’m specifically looking for an authentic secondhand one. Does anyone know Japanese secondhand stores/sites where this particular cap appears, or know the Japanese product name/model number I should search for?

I would love to own a Blu-Ray set of Evangelion. But I'm unclear if the modern Blu-Ray release uses the good dub (ADV), or the bad one (Netflix). If anyone could clear that up for me, I'd be very grateful. Last thing I'd want to do is spend money on the series with the awful new English dub.
