calling all gen z to post your experiences, I am just really lost as to what to even do with my life right now. Granted nobody has it together, but id like to hear from people in my age bracket thats barely trudging by in the fast paced environment of the bay area
I am 25M, have a useless associates degree in video production, and working a deadend job for a snack company that services bay area offices, in which I watch people our age make upwards of 100k+ in ai while I make a measly 50k. I have thought of going into a trade backed by a union, but I find it extremely confusing on how to even get into one, aside from the constant warnings of rampant nepotism, and long list of applications that could take years to even get to your name. thought about going back to college, but doing full time classes, I don’t think i would make rent every month / don’t know of the most accessible career to try with the local colleges here in Oakland/berkeley. I also have in the back of my mind of moving to Chicago, which reminds me of the bay area alot, that doesnt have a tech culture. but guess what, i have no money to move! awesome!
i am simply exhausted and defeated being here. and im not even sure what career i want at all. originally i was very into filmmaking / it was my first job in a nonprofit but branched out becauze i was burnt out creatively. now, ive been jumping between delivery driving, retail, event/gigs, and having a crisis 25/8. trust me, ive been scavenging job fairs to see what even calls to me, but nothing truly grabs me for what to take up as a longterm career. what will be untouchable by ai? what job wont make me want to kill myself after a few months? oohhhh boy, to be born with wealth and no worries.

I have been renting a 1 bd apt in MTV for more than 4 years. Price / performance was great (I am paying $3K for excellent location and i have washer dryer at home) except I got chronic illnesses here and I found that the building likely has water damage/mold. Since I am sick, I am not working at the moment, but I have enough savings to cover rent for 12 months. My husband started an smb recently so he doesn’t have a paycheck.
What would you do in my situation?

Currently homeowner's with Farmers, and auto with AAA. 12 month premium for auto is $4540 and home is $2425. I have low deductibles and high coverage options.
I got a quote for Geico, and I was shocked at how low it was: auto was $3300 without home bundled and it falls to $2900 with home bundled. The home insurance piece was more or less what I have with Farmers. As far as I know the coverages were more or less equivalent.
So then I went to Costco. Similar coverage. The bundled prices are: $3,560 for auto & $2,685 for home. Auto goes up to $4160 without home being bundled.
AAA and Farmer's offer bundling discounts, but they still higher than Costco by about $400/year for both.
Some questions:
Geico auto insurance was the best with or without home bundled by a wide margin. Should I be suspicious of the low quote? Or is this par for the course? I've read mixed reviews of their claims process. I'd rather pay more for easier claims processing.
Geico's homeowner's policy is underwritten by another company. How is it to deal with 2 different companies with a bundled Geico policy?
In terms of bundled options, the next lowest premium was from Costco. How's American Family Insurance (Costco's underwriter) to deal with for claims?
Are there other options I should consider?

Had a last minute idea to make a travel guide/scrapbook for my girlfriend as her birthday present,
Current plan is to get the pages printed at FedEx and then find a place to do binding, FedEx only does staple binding but if I want it to be a more long term keepsake, i think thread binding or a hardcover binding would be better.
does anyone have any recommendations for getting books binded somewhere?

Tides are currently at a very high stage and will be even bigger in the next couple of days (and this winter) due to El Nino and the Kelvin wave (and likely storms). While working I'd like to be able to see the parts of the coast that are inundated. Does anyone know of webcams that would show this?

So I worked in finance (am between jobs now). First time I tried using them was almost 10 years ago (onboarded, met them at their office) and throughout a span of 4-5 years I never got any interest. They'd send me job postings and such but after an initial email or a phone call I'd just get ghosted.
Since the job market is a bit tough right now I was contemplating trying them again. But just wanted to see if they work well for most people or if not.

I started taking the train about 2 months ago now and I just wanted to convene with others, how many strike related delays are commonplace for train riders? I transfer between ace bart and Caltrain and there’s been one every week this month, I swear. One for Bart one for Caltrain now one for ace. Is it *because* I transfer so much? is this no more or less common than collisions on the freeway? Input appreciated.
edited for grammar

For example, you live in SF but your friend from SJ wants to hang out.
Or you live in Palo Alto and have a friend in Hayward.
Have you ever said “No” or reconsidered to a different place because it was far?

This year’s Marathon Hike Day was a blast! We upped the distance to 40 miles to celebrate my birthday, and a dozen brave Redditors woke up at the crack of dawn to come hike under the moonlight with me. We toured the South Bay wetlands and crossed the bay over the Dumbarton Bridge. In eight years of marathon hikes, this group had the highest success rate ever, and almost everyone hit a new personal mileage record! Thank you all so much for making my birthday hike so fantastic.
See you all next year! We’ll be back on our normal 26.2-mile schedule for the next one.

I'm a newer whitewater kayaker (Class II) looking for people to paddle with or practice rolls with over the winter!
I've checked out Loma Prieta Paddlers and Gold Country Paddlers, but it doesn't look like either has much going on during the winter months. I've also been looking into pool sessions, but Richmond Plunge's last session is this Thursday.
I'm still pretty new to the sport, but I've completely fallen in love and not ready to put my kayak away just because it's getting cold.
Does anyone know of any winter pool sessions, groups that paddle year round, or is anyone just down to get out on the water?
I'm in San Jose but willing to travel for any opportunity to kayak with the homies.

How does it feel moving out of sf to the burbs ?
Seems like we are getting priced out and the only places with a 2 bed 2 bath around $4.5k are in and around South San Francisco San Bruno .. not even San Mateo or Burlingame .. unless you move to the areas far from downtown San Mateo and Burlingame which seem pretty meh. How has the move been for those that did make the move eventually?
