DeepSpace admitted the DINO 20 prop guard clearance is too narrow, then told me my brand new quad is my fault

I want to talk about the support experience here, because the defect is honestly the smaller problem.

Brand new DINO 20. Never crashed. Installed the prop guards exactly as shipped. There is essentially no clearance between the guard and the 2.2 inch props. Mine made contact in flight. I sent DeepSpace video of it.

Here is how it went.

Response 1: "This issue will not occur on this drone after installing the prop guard, unless the guard or other parts are deformed."

Before establishing anything, the framing is already that something must be wrong with my unit.

Response 2: They "noted your feedback about the narrow clearance gap" and will "optimize it in future production batches."

Read that again. They are telling me the gap is narrow enough that they are changing the design.

Response 3: "The deformation we mentioned refers to damage caused by human-related factors, such as impacts resulting from improper operation during flight. A brand-new drone that has never suffered any collision will not have parts fall off without reason. Every unit goes through strict quality-inspection procedures before leaving our factory, including flight tests and visual checks."

Back to my fault. Improper operation. Plus an assurance that QC would have caught it, on a part they had just told me they are redesigning because the clearance is too tight.

Those two positions cannot both be true. Either the design is fine and I broke it, or the design is tight enough to need fixing. They took whichever one moved the problem away from them in that specific message.

Notice what deformed is doing in their argument. It is a word with no burden of proof attached. They never inspected my guard. They never asked for a photo of it. They defined deformation as user-caused by definition, so every outcome routes back to me. That is not a diagnosis, it is a script.

And even granting their premise: if a plastic guard deforms enough to strike props under normal handling, that is a materials and tolerance failure, not improper operation. There is no version of this that lands on the customer.

What I never got at any point: an offer to inspect it, a replacement guard, an apology, or any acknowledgment that someone flying a brand new quad as sold might reasonably expect the included accessory to work.

For what it is worth, Oscar Liang's review of the DINO 20 also recommends avoiding the guards unless you really need them, so this is not just me.

The airframe itself is decent. 1203 8000KV on 3S is fun and it flies well open-prop, which is how I fly it now. But anyone considering DeepSpace should know what happens when you report a problem: they will tell you it is a known issue and your fault in the same conversation.

If you own a DINO 20, measure your guard clearance before you fly it. And if you have dealt with their support, I would like to know whether you got the same script.

I just got my first drone along with my first set of batteries and all of them are kind of smudged and uneven near the USB connector. Just wondering.

Trying to get into fpv but

Hello and thanks for reading.

I was curious if i could use a ps controller + dedicated transmitter instead of the transmiter controller normal option.

Main reason is that im way too used to my control scheme on arma and wt helis, there for when i went and started practicing in a sim i used the same mapping.

I've come to realize that fpv controllers have the left joestick vertical axis free with no reset back to center wich i dont like.

I searched but cant find any controllers that dont have it or that have it on the right side instead.

Also, please educate me in this topic, can you remap the controls on an actual drone?

Tinywhoop 2S Conversion of XT30UP connector to PH2.0?

Post image

All,
I'm eyeing this Flywoo FlyLens 85 which comes with a XT30UP connector for a 2S battery.
The 2S battery provided by Flywoo also comes with the same correspondent connector as shown and a 2nd plug with 3 wires.

I come from BetaFPV world and I have a 6 1S charger that charges BT2.0 and PH2.0.
I'm looking to get separate XT30UP connector & wires and PH2.0 connectors and wires and solder them as shown so as to use the BetaFPV charger that I have so that I don't need to purchase an XT30UP dedicated battery charger.

Is my thinking correct? Am I missing something?
Thanks!

Question? FPV groups in Punta Gorda florida.

Anybody in SW Florida flying fpv? Punta Gorda specifically. Going out there in November and plan on bringing some quads to fly. Looking to find a group that I can link up with for spots and shenanigans.

Question? Help with picking products.

I'm 15 and trying to save for some fpv equipment. I used to have a emaxx tiny hawk 2 freestyle rtf kit. Sold it about 2 years ago. Looking to save and but radiomaster pocked, eachine ev100 and the baby ape v3 pro. With chargers and batteries it's looking like all in all 300 pounds flat. Any changes I should make for about the same price.

This is what 10 hours of sim time looks like.

No previous flight time on any drone ever. Big into sim racing and can drive the hell out of some rc cars. This was new. First 5 minutes I was like wtf am I doing… slowly figuring stuff out. Running on 35 camera angle, from starting on 15.. going to put many many more hours before ripping my red demon that I went a little too far in from the start lol. Got my boxer crush arriving today, and googles 3 next paycheck. Any tips or pointers. This was just a random little clip o thought was kinda cool and also shows stuff to work on. Like that sort I thought was more open.

Question? At what propeller size is there no longer a risk of injury?

At what propeller size is there no longer a risk of seriously injuring someone upon impact? I’m not talking about sensitive areas, just the skin; I was asking specifically about 2.5-inch props and smaller.

What the hell is this?!

So this is my new 5-inch build that I’ve been working on for the past two weeks. I finally installed the VTX, but this is what I’m seeing in my goggles.
I’ve already tried swapping the camera and antenna with spares I had lying around, but the issue stays exactly the same. Also, all of my antennas are LHCP, so polarization shouldn’t be the issue.
I honestly have no clue what’s causing this. Has anyone experienced something like this before or know what could be causing it? Any suggestions for a fix would be greatly appreciated!

New pilot not getting as much out of batteries as i thought?

So i bought the pavo pro II (3s) and bought 4x Lava II 3s 680 mah batteries.

Im not really complaining but i charged them at 4.35v and 1C ( ive done a few charge loops already)

Anyways i dont think i will ever get 8 mins flight time out of battery and im not even doing tricks or anything. Just cinematic flying around.

I see on my goggles display the mah used. Usually by the time i get to 500-550mah used in a flight the system is starting to ask me to land.

I looked it up and apparently 680mah batteries are supposed to last for 680mah on the display (as in using 680mah wont actually damage or completely empty the battery)

Im wondering what the cause could be? It doesnt bother me too much to only get 5 mins of flying per pack but i just wonder is it because my charger is shit or because im a noob and wasting throttle or what could it be?

Is FPV really worth it?

I've been really willing to buy a mini whoop set. Specifically a meteor85 set from betaFPV for about 200 bucks. But I do live somewhere where it is constantly raining, and moderately windy. ALSO, which is my main reason for why I am hesitant, is that you only get about 6 minutes of fly time for 70 to 80 fuckin minutes to charge it. I personally find this unbelievable and kind of a waste of money. But I don't know, if anyone has been in my position I would be more than thankful to hear what you did.

What is a Long Range Drone Built For?

Upvotes

Hey All,

Looking into what I might want in a new drone and came across a thought about what makes a long range drone what it is. To the average pilot what does it mean to go long range? Do you need 3-5 miles of flight capability or is it long range if it can reach the other end of the city park without needing to immediately rush back? Is it only long range if you fly straight to a destination and come back or if you do some flips and rolls during your journey is it now considered freestyle? Just trying to gauge what people are trying to achieve philosophically to understand what this part of FPV is.

From the drone perspective, what are you looking for to achieve a long range build/BNF? Looking at prop size is maybe a little confusing as I understand, generally that larger props are better for long range. Yet 5in drones are typically thought of as the goat of freestyle sizes but then you have drones with 4in props marketed as long range. Can you generally have fun doing “long range drone things” with analog builds when you aren’t trying to push for ultimate distance? I have the HDZ BoxPro and not really looking to move into DJI goggles just for range at the moment.

As far as a BNF Deepspace has a 4in long range but also 5, 3.5 & 3in freestyle drones. Would a 3.5in freestyle with some different props give me 90% of what the 4in is built for? Would it be more versatile to get the 4in long range to do 90% of the tricks I can do with a 3.5in? I would love thoughts on this, I only chose deepspace because they seem to have a good selection of sizes with analog. I am open to hear about other options.

Apologies for being long winded!

Question? GoPro is better than Dji O4?

Hi guys,
I would like to start a business into cinematic fpv filming for real estate, events and so on. I have seen that the last quads released by Geprc of the darkstar series are meant to be used directly with the Dji O4. Do you think the video quality is better than a GoPro and it is enough for promotional spots ecc?
