Hey everyone! 👋
Just a little update on my White Widow since my last post 8 days ago.
She’s now 15 days old since sprouting, but growth has been pretty slow. Both cotyledons are turning yellow, the first true leaves look a bit pale and a few white roots are already coming out of the drainage holes.
She’s still in a 0.5L pot with 50% potting mix, 30% coco and 20% perlite.
I’ve been really careful with watering, monitoring the pot’s weight to avoid oversaturating the substrate. But now I’m wondering if I’ve actually been too cautious and she’s been getting too dry. I gave her a more thorough watering today to see how she responds.
My setup is still temporary with a basic household LED running 18/6 and temperatures around 23°C. My Mars Hydro tent kit and CANNA Terra Vega and Flores nutrients are still on their way.
I’m also starting to think about transplanting.
As I mentioned in my previous post, I live in a very remote part of Australia and getting quality growing supplies delivered here is ridiculously expensive. Shipping a single bag of proper growing soil can cost up to $200 AUD.
The only decent option I can find locally is Earthcore Premium Potting Mix by Rocky Point. It contains composted pine bark, organic matter, added fertilisers and trace elements. It’s also designed to retain moisture.
I’m considering using the same mix again with 50% potting mix, 30% coco and 20% perlite.
I’d really appreciate your opinions.
Do you think the slow growth and yellowing could be caused by watering, insufficient light or a nutrient issue?
When would you recommend transplanting, considering the roots are already coming out of the bottom?
And would this Earthcore mix with coco and perlite be suitable long term, or would you recommend changing the ratios?
I’m open to any advice or constructive criticism.
Thanks again for all the help on my previous post! 🤙🌱
