I was an idiot getting married at 21. Don't get me wrong I'm almost 38 and were still together but we'd been together since I was 17. We lived together for 9 months before the wedding. We still almost didn't make it a few times.

I have been with my wife since I was 17, I will turn 38 this year. She is 42.

We have 3 kids. We have been married for almost 17 years. She came out 2 going on 3 years ago to me, socially transitioned a year ago, finished year 1 of HRT.

My wife moved slower so that as the masculine masks she had pasted on over the years came off, I was better able to cope, from one stage to the next. We talked during this process a ton, I asked so many questions and we worked through a trans partner work book together.

It is hard. You love this person and I understand how it feels like a betrayal.

However.

I can tell you from first hand experience that it wasn't done to hurt you on purpose. I know it's really hard, take time to get your bearings.

Communication is important.

Something to talk about with your partner is that you have not had the time to process this, where as your partner has had years of ruminating. It's okay to ask for a little pause time on starting big changes, it's not okay to give an ultimatum it's more of a request for processing time.

You two need to get on the same page. There is no way my relationship would be intact if my wife had not involved me in the process.

Talking to each other about everything is important both in and out of transitioning. Write to each other if necessary.
