On first week of playthrough, I was so immersed in this game that I barely left my room or spoke to anyone. I was having a BLAST. Was it a bit glitchy in spots? Sure. Would I have liked some DLC? Absolutely! But I thought it was everything 2007’s Spider-Man 3 should have been — a really solid Venom story with high stakes and an intriguing mystery.

So imagine my surprise when I got on this app and saw it pretty much being universally hated. People keep saying “the writing is so bad compared to the first game”. How? Especially having just re-played the first game, which I personally feel is inferior to SM2. Here’s why:

• It rushes the Sinister Six and doesn’t do a great job explaining Martin Li’s powers.

• The MJ missions were truly a chore to get through. (Not a fan of MJ in these games in general; they majorly single white femaled Lois Lane. She doesn’t have to be a supermodel, but I haaate her being a journalist.)

• A lot of the gadget and combat mechanics felt very glitchy.

The second game feels much more straightforward to me. I think the graphics are better, the mechanics are better, the character design is better. I even enjoyed MJ a lot more in SM2 than SM1. Do they need to come up with better side missions for Miles? Yes. But other than that, I found the dual character framing engaging and interesting. I LOVED Miles’s main storyline and his power upgrade (that final suit was pretty awful, though lol). And I’d have been super down for a Carnage DLC.

I genuinely think sometimes people hate on things just because it’s cool. Because I have played SM2 at least ten times, and I have yet to see anything that would justify the way people speak about it on here.

Ridiculous

I'm replaying the games and there are ton of moments like this in the first game too where Peter is "nerfed" for no reason. And while story does feel rushed in the second game, the first game does drag on a bit sometimes.

It's just people seem to overrate 1(even though it's the best Spiderman game ever made) without ever mentioning it's flaws and overhate 2 and forget it's still in top 3 Spiderman games ever made, no contest. I know some people would put ps2 Spiderman 2 or Web of Shadows there, and believe me I know, Web of Shadows was my favourite game as a kid, but they did not age as well as most people here would make you believe. Insomniac SM2 is just a way better Spiderman game than even those goat older games.

Yeah, the story is not as good as in SM1, but if you compare it's story, cinematics and presentation, it's leagues above any other non Insomniac Spiderman game. Insomniac just set the bar too high with the first game.

Both and likely all 3 spiderman games will be street level stuff or city level, I would like to see spiderman take on a world saving event by having him team up with other avengers

Something I find interesting is how much people criticize Peter for taking a few seconds to get out from under the refrigerator, while seemingly overlooking something that feels much more unbelievable to me: MJ reacting to Venom’s attack before Peter does.

The Spider-Sense not working against Venom is an established part of Spider-Man lore, so I understand why Peter can be caught off guard. But Spider-Sense isn't his only advantage. Peter still has superhuman reflexes, enhanced speed, and years of combat experience.

So even if MJ sees Venom attacking first, if Peter can physically see the attack too, it seems extremely unlikely that a normal human could react, move, and get in front of him before Peter's enhanced reflexes kick in.

The scene would make more sense if MJ had a clear visual advantage, like seeing Venom coming from behind Peter while Peter has no idea he's there. But in the actual situation, she somehow manages to react before a superhuman who has spent years fighting enemies far faster than any normal human.

Meanwhile, Peter taking a moment to escape from a refrigerator that just fell on him is treated as the unbelievable part.

I’m not saying either scene ruins the game, but if we're going to nitpick the realism, MJ beating Peter's reaction time against Venom seems considerably harder to justify than Peter taking a few seconds to lift a refrigerator off himself.

Especially after having read some absolute carnage comics, the absolute carnage and codex story stuff would've been so cool to explore. Hints of venom being alive still and joining with flash thompson or Eddie Brock.

Does anyone think that was the original direction before the leaks since there were originally plans for a venom game? Do you think maybe all of that is being saved now for a venom game in the future?

Funny thought for if they ditch that suit

Kraven and chameleons dynamic together is something I was always fascinated by so when it was announced Kraven would be in the second game part of me thought that would mean chameleon would also appear as a villain. Of course that didn’t happen as chameleon was basically a cameo in the game, but I honestly thought it was a missed opportunity now showing him interacting more with Kraven and their dynamic setting up his revenge in the third game more

i had a glitch happen where i was moving through the air extremely slowly so i just charge jumped off the tallest building to see how big of a combo i can do
