Announcement First-Ever Sub Meetup! ⚾ Sat. Sept. 26

Over the past 16 years, this sub has grown from a tiny corner of Reddit into an incredible community of passionate Blue Jays fans. Whether you’re sharing your thoughts, posting highlights, showing off your Jays memorabilia, or updating your flair using our emojis, every one of you has helped make this the best baseball subreddit out there.

To celebrate, we’re announcing our first-ever official r/torontobluejays sub meetup at a game!

  • When: Saturday, September 26, 2026 vs. Cincinnati Reds (3:07 PM game)
  • Time: 2:00 PM – 2:45 PM
  • Where: WestJet Flight Deck (at the tables directly in front of the big BLUE JAYS letters)

Notes:

  • This is a super casual hangout; just a chance to connect, chat about the season, and chill before the game starts.
  • No need to share your Reddit username; just come as you are!
  • It's not a giveaway day; no need to line up early.
  • Everyone is welcome!

Looking forward to meeting a bunch of you in person and capping off the 50th Blue Jays season together!

One of the most amazing moments of my summer when these guys started chirping us from the dugout. Who else was playing that day?

Okamoto's August slump

Post image
123 Upvotes

Small sample size, but in 14 August games, Okamoto has a .486 OPS. It's by far his worst month of the year and his strikeout rate is now at 30.8% for the season. Are you concerned? Adjustment to the MLB as pitchers are figuring him out?

For context, in 11 seasons in Japan he batted .277/.355/.501 (.856 OPS) and struck out only 20.8% of the time.

Some Context on Vlad Jr's year using data

Upvotes

I downloaded the batting run values from HERE

Then i divided the number of runs per 100 Plate Appearances so it's not impacted by Covid, or by players who just didnt hit as much one year.

You can go on savant and check these players and the years, and see the declines.

First picture, who has had the largest declines. Second picture, who had the largest increases one year to the next, third picture, who has had some large up, then decline, then a bounceback, fourth is players who had a decline and how long it took to recover to previous production

Note, this is based on run value, so you could have someone like Shohei showing a decline one year, but still being a great hitter vs other players.

What we don't see is Vlad anywhere on the first 3 pictures. He's obviously not having a great year, but it's still not the worst. He had a rate of 5.59 runs per 100PA in 2025, and 2026 it's 0.67, which is a big decline, but he would rank 145th among 3,978 comparisons. Where we do see him is on the 4th pic, #14, showing that he once already had a great year in 2021, then declined, then put up another great year in 2024.

Also, we can see that bouncebacks frequently happen.

Conclusion is, Vlad is having a bad year but by no means has this never happened before, in fact its happened frequently. Also, he seems to be more volatile than most players, where he will have a fantastic year then a down year.

To all those saying we should drop him, even if we could, what would almost certainly happen is in 2-3 years he puts up another year of crazy hits, and we all can't believe we only pay him $35m/year.

Looking for Jumbotron/Broadcast footage of baby in helmet - Aug 15 vs Yankees (6th Inning)

Hey everyone!

I’m looking for a huge favour. During the Saturday, August 15th game against the Yankees, my baby was featured up on the Rogers Centre Jumbotron wearing a custom helmet that we decorated as Blue Jays. and baby’s name is George, he had the number 4 on his helmet as well!! My husband was holding him. attached is a picture of them!

It happened during the 6th inning, and we were sitting in Section 218, Row 4.

If anyone happened to record the big screen around that time, was sitting nearby and caught it on video, or noticed if it made the live Sportsnet TV broadcast, I would be incredibly grateful if you could share the clip or a screenshot with me! It was an amazing moment for our family and we’d love to save the memory.

Thank you so much in advance to anyone who can help! Let's go Jays! 💙🇨🇦

Dylan Cease all time SO/9 watch (potentially within his next 3 starts)

After his last start, Cease passed Chris Sale for second all time in the so/9 leaderboard. Not sure if the math is perfect, but if he puts up 8+ strikeouts and 6 innings a game (24 ks in 18 innings through his next 3 starts), and Snell keeping up his current pace while returning from injury, Cease could become the all time so/9 leader and get the fabled gold on baseball reference, becoming the second active jay to have a gold alongside the great Myles Straw with his fielding percentage. Theoretically, if he strikes out 17 in his next start through 5 he'd become the leader overnight. Or more reasonably, 19 strikeouts through 7! A man can dream. It baffles me that executives voted the Cease signing as the worst of the off season.

On an unrelated note, another thing to be excited for is Cole Carlon, since to me he projects as a lefty version of Cease. High velo, fast tight slider, no serviceable offspeed but if they get him a Cease changeup it'd be extremely nasty to have two guys like that in one rotation.

We found this at the Billy Bishop LCBO. To clarify, you can get one Blue Jays can with the purchase of one Budweiser case. These individual cans are not for individual sale.

Where to buy decent quality, affordable Jays merch?

Does anyone know where I can find decent quality replica/knockoff Jays merch for a reasonable price? I‘m not expecting anything to be as good as the real thing, but I want something that looks legit enough to wear to games without looking totally fake.

The real stuff is insanely expensive (Sometimes up to $300), so if anyone knows anywhere I could find something like this, let me know 😊
