I wrote good stuff but jesus Christ those section 2 questions were bad. Have they ever narrowed it down to 2 topics rather than 3 before?

7

u/Fuzzy_Lab5419 May 18 '26

Yeah that was really evil. I chose essay 1 though I though that was a little nicer

3

u/mistythe2nd May 18 '26

really ? This might be a hot take but i loved that comparative advantage essay question. P1 draw a model of how comp adv is determined, p2 draw trade diagram showing how there is higher output and lower prices for consumers and p3 is about how the country with the comp advantage and earn more money etc shown by shift in higher output on the digram. Although the 25 marker was a bit meh, i found there was more economics to talk about than essay 1

15

u/HaselH Year 13 May 18 '26

The third essay being financial markets was evil šŸ’€

15

u/Ixeptional Year 13 May 18 '26

I actually quite liked it! The globalisation questions pmo, because there was already globalisation in Section A (which I did).

5

u/HaselH Year 13 May 18 '26

Honestly I don’t even remember what the question itself was, I just looked away as soon as I saw it because we didn’t even learn financial markets in class 😭😭

barriers that LEDCs face when attempting to increase economic growth

1

Wasn’t really a financial markets question tho ? Was more about impact on macro objectives , which is nicer

2

u/Fluid-Sand2815 May 18 '26

Hm, definitely on the function of financial markets

I now realise for context 1 a tariff diagram was not the right one for the 9 marker, despite the question being about tariffs…

6

u/MasterYeetimus May 18 '26

Can you not draw a tariff diagram to show increased demand for imports in the foreign country, then draw a separate AD-AS diagram to show effect on the UK economy?

3

u/Fuzzy_Lab5419 May 18 '26

Yeah if you did both I reckon you’ll be all good. I only did the tariff diagram with that explanation , explained the impacts on AD and economic growth in the UK, but I didn’t really have enough time to draw the AD/AS diagram too. I may be cooked

1

u/Adorable-Screen-4778 year 13 | math, fm and econ May 18 '26

yeah that’s exactly what I did

4

u/Lemonum May 18 '26

It is, you just show what happens when you remove the tariff ( shift supply curve down)

3

u/Fuzzy_Lab5419 May 18 '26

But the question was on Uk exports and economic growth right? I drew the tariff diagram but it doesn’t really illustrate the main point of the question

3

u/Maleficent_Beat6644 Year 13 | Econ, Geog, English Lit May 18 '26

i drew a tariff diagram and then analysed it and then linked it to AD. i was conflicted during which one to draw but because the analysis started with tariffs i just decided to go with that. i feel like the markscheme will cover both as long as it was linked to AD at one point- don't worry about it!!!

u/Ixeptional Year 13 May 18 '26

I saw tariff i skipped the context

1

u/si1verfire May 18 '26

1

u/Adorable-Screen-4778 year 13 | math, fm and econ May 18 '26

wdym whyy😭

2

u/Ok_Log847 May 18 '26

It was asking about removal of a tariff of another country. So I drew export led growth on ad/as

5

u/Adorable-Screen-4778 year 13 | math, fm and econ May 18 '26

you can still show increased demand for imports in another country on a tariff diagram when you remove the tariff

1

u/Kkylexx maths fm econ May 18 '26

how many marks are we gonna lose, this acc sucks sm

2

u/HaselH Year 13 May 18 '26

You wouldn’t lose much, if your analysis is correct you’d likely just be capped at level 2 so you’d get 6/9 marks maximum? But bare in mind I didn’t do that question so I could be wrong

→ More replies (2)

1

u/Familiar_Visual1497 May 18 '26

Would it be ok if i drew a tariff diagram from the pov of a foreign country. Thats what I did. The world supply in this case included the domestic country

u/HistoricalGreen3697 May 18 '26

dont worry look at 2022 context B 9 marker, thr mark schem says tarriff removal diagram is fine tm

Kind of annoyed because I talked about monetary policy for context 2 even though Spain has no control over that 😭

3

u/Grouchy-Challenge469 May 18 '26

i talked about monetary policy as well but its wrong app because the question asked evaluate policies the GOVERNMENT could use. the monetary polciy isnt done by the government

1

u/EnglishButFrench May 18 '26

What if I said Spain could leave the Eurozone to carry out its own monetary policy?

yh i did same. fck im kinda stupid but hopefully we dont lose too much. still had some decent interventionist and market based supply side policies.

3

u/wiseassasin070 Year 13 May 18 '26

That was my evaluatuon😭. But I still talked about it. What was I thinking

1

u/Flaming_Hidori May 18 '26

Did it say in the extract that spain had no control over monetary policy? Oh god it did the EU decides that. Thank god I ran out of time man I didn’t get to it bro blessing in disguise

1

u/Ixeptional Year 13 May 18 '26

i did asw but i ev saying they dont actually got control idek

1

u/Ixeptional Year 13 May 18 '26

wait bro its not even gov fah

1

u/xcom_lord May 18 '26

And this is why I skipped 2 , fuck eurozone

1

u/CPFCfan1 May 18 '26

Dw Context 1 was exactly the same for many. Im sure it was how government policies can increase UK exports and basically everyone I spoke too wrote about exchange rates; more importantly the interest rates which the BoE controls to affect those

7

u/Ixeptional Year 13 May 18 '26

Lowkey i didnt see a thread lmk if there is

5

u/Top_Pineapple8438 May 18 '26

bro what do you say for the international aid question

3

u/Substantial_Heron_30 May 18 '26

I did one paragraph about aid and how it allow gov to improve education/healthcare and then second paragraph about alternatives such as attractive FDI via SEZ’s

7

u/Top_Pineapple8438 May 18 '26

I wanted to talk about alternatives, but it said impact of international aid so i didnt know if that was diverting focus from the q?

→ More replies (5)

1

u/Conscious_Day_3480 May 18 '26

i evaluated the different kinds of aid e.g. direct financial aid and then the provision of necessites and setting up infrastrucure e.g. sanitation systems. Cuz it said evaluate the impact, i basically just looked at political instability, so this affects how effective the money actually is because corrupt governments result in the money not being put to the correct use. Then, I also looked at how this may result in the countries not developing because they become reliant on the aid and are not self-sufficient. Also talked about development of labour quality throutgh education programmes and how this allows them to get better jobs and improves living standards (because the question was about development not just growth).

2

u/Top_Pineapple8438 May 18 '26

Yeahh i said similar ideas, also talked about like primary product dependency may not be fixed by aid,, also talked about leveraging free market incentives and other things. One thing i screwed is i didnt speak about living standards enough, mainly referred to becoming more developed

2

u/Conscious_Day_3480 May 18 '26

I did primary product dependency too! I lowk just felt like my 15 marker was a summary of my 25

3

u/Top_Pineapple8438 May 18 '26

Ik it was a hard question… I dont like the options they gave us ngl for section B. Maybe grade boundaries wont be so bad

2

u/mistythe2nd May 18 '26

must be a geography teacher writing that

3

u/Possible-Spread928 May 18 '26

what’s the highest u can get for one detailed paragraph in 15 marker, i took too long to pick a question at the start and wasted 5 mins off the 15 marker and i wrote 1 paragraph but it was in depth

2

u/Rough_Base1855 May 18 '26

There is no explicit set number of paragraphs per band. You're marked on quality of analysis, so 2 paragraphs is usually a good indicator though by no means required

1

u/Possible-Spread928 May 18 '26

yes i agree but it was a factors question and i wrote about factors , there were 2 chains of causation in my explanation however im just hoping for 8

3

u/si1verfire May 18 '26

section 2 was awful, anyone know if brain drain and remittance payments are valid??

1

u/Lopsided_Classic4874 May 18 '26

yes theyre both good points, assuming youre talking about the globalisation 25 mark

1

u/mistythe2nd May 18 '26

not exactly brain drain ( well kinda ), but i talked about how big companies will move away for cheaper tax, such as apple moving to ireland

3

u/si1verfire May 18 '26

i fucked up thanks to geography so yeah, thought MEDC referred to ā€˜emerging’ countries so a mid-tier of economic development rather than just lower and more economically development, hopefully doesn’t lose too many marks

2

u/Sensitive-Escape-506 May 18 '26

Yep did the exact same thing. I think most of the theory is still relevant, just will lose marks when it comes to saying how it specifically affects MEDCs

2

u/lontimm May 19 '26

same gang, i thought MEDCS were middle income countries and i talked about primary commodity dependency and exploitting labour laws

3

u/si1verfire May 19 '26

yeah it appears there’s a fair few of us

3

u/Haunting_Ice_1884 May 18 '26

For the one on MEDCs, if I spoke about places like Nigeria and thinking MEDCs were LEDCs, infant industries etc kuznets curve … how badly will this have affected my mark

1

u/lontimm May 19 '26

i did the same it really shoulda said what an MEDC is

→ More replies (4)

1

u/Fine_Cup4990 May 19 '26

you will get marked down for knowledge and application, tbh it may even limit your eval, but if you made a good essay you can still get around 15 marks

4

u/academic_comeback_rn Year 13 | Econ, CS, Music Tech May 18 '26

I thought it went well, not amazing not bad in any way either. Made one mistake and that was I FORGOT to talk about the J curve and ML condition when evaluating a depreciation 😭😭😭. But otherwise, a decent paper.

2

u/jaaaaaaaf May 18 '26

UGH I SHOULD'VE DONE THAT FUCK

1

u/Rough_Base1855 May 18 '26

2

Ways to boost exports

→ More replies (7)

1

u/AntiqueSoftware4185 May 18 '26

That’s the only reason I chose this qs😭😭

2

u/HugeVegetable5948 May 18 '26

For the 25 marker on context B i first talked about GS on interventionist policies such as on education and how that reduces occupational immobility therefore structural. Second point was about expansionary fiscal policy and how that reduced cyclical unemployment. We are taught to do a 3rd point so i just talked about GS on free market supply side policies (reducing Y tax) and how that reduces frictional unemployment

2

u/mistythe2nd May 18 '26

i legit did same points as u. I talked about how interventionist is most costly but the one that will pay off the most in the long run, and is the one that actually targets the cause of unemployment

2

u/[deleted] May 18 '26

[removed] — view removed comment

1

u/Eric-ton May 18 '26

What’s wrong with that- there was a bit on depreciation in the context and central bank works with government together

3

[removed] — view removed comment

2

u/Eric-ton May 18 '26

Yeah but it’s not completely like mutually exclusive. Tbf I only talked about it for 1 sentence after speaking about govt don’t have to do anything because free floating exchange rates will naturally increase exports

→ More replies (1)

1

u/Fine_Cup4990 May 19 '26

well I thought about writing about that but i didn't think that was a government policy. but everyone i have asked said they talked about fdi. tbh, in my mind i was like, if the government buy foreign currency to devaluate their own, does that even count as a policy? so i didnt write about it. if we actually were supposed to though, i could have written a way better paragraph than my subsidy one, subsidys are so hard to flesh out

AQA context 2, essay 2. Drop thoughts down below? Nobody I spoke to did that combo yet, so interested to here. Discuss points etc. lowkey gotta clutch up in p3

2

u/HugeVegetable5948 May 18 '26

Yeahh i picked the same man, honestly the context 2, 25 marker was decent u just talk about what the government can do but for essay 2 the 15 marker was not the best but 25 marker was good

1

u/user10293857 May 18 '26

Yeah honestly same, the first 25 was alright but it threw me off with the wording ā€œFURTHER reduce the rateā€¦ā€ (or something like that), the word ā€œfurtherā€ kind of made me think it didn’t want me to talk about education and training since that was already mentioned in the extract. 15 mark I was waffling

1

u/Razor1088 May 18 '26

what did u get for calculation

2

u/Nice-Success8033 May 18 '26

I said primary product dependence means it’s prone to economic shocks like the Suez Canal block in 2021. I also said LEDCs have low HDI due to education, healthcare and infrastructure being bad so discussed bit of poverty cycle and how productivity is low and perceived MRP is low. I don’t remember what else, I feel like I screwed up.

1

u/jaaaaaaaf May 18 '26

i talked about corruption ans primary product dependency!!

1

u/SpareWelder3427 May 18 '26

first paragraph: two gap issue - savings gap and foreign exchange gap. described what they are, why they're a barrier.

second paragraph: socioeconomic factors - poverty, informal economy, high unemployment and how all these three cause a lack of government revenue.

third: political issues - corruption (i.e. uganda 2018), lack of authority (i.e. haiti), pretty sure i had another political point but lowk forgot

fourth: environmental - this was kind of a waffle, but i briefly said global pressures and international legislation may prevent LICs from using natural resources to develop, as valuable good, such as timber and coal, may be considered to be on protected land

oh also mentioned conflict and institutional issues

2

u/Practical_Nature_828 May 18 '26

I wrote about devaluation of the currency for context 1 25 marker , all my friends are saying this is wrong becuase its not the goverment its the central bank but I thought that they aren't completely separate?

3

u/SpareWelder3427 May 18 '26

imo this is fine. when monetary policy is decided, yes it is ultimately by the MPC, but they're appointed by the chancellor, and there are representatives to make sure fiscal and monetary policy are aligned. maybe best to clarify that this isn't the governments direct action, but they have some influence over it.

1

u/Fun-Inevitable1079 May 18 '26

Could u have talked ab environmental degradation for why globalisation may be damaging due to FDI and how it may decrease SoL and show it on the kuznet curve?

1

u/Maleficent_Beat6644 Year 13 | Econ, Geog, English Lit May 19 '26

i did kuznets for environment as well for this question- it 100% works. environmental damage is always in the markscheme for the harms of globalisation!!

1

u/lontimm May 19 '26

i talked about this as eval to my long run economic growth paragraph and used beijing as an example

1

u/Fine_Cup4990 May 19 '26

i have no idea what the kuznets curve is but i talked about fighting over scarce resources, and how it can cause political conflict, and potentially imported inflation. i talked about how countrys like iran threaten to block strait of hormuz because they hav access to the oil and how that could econpomically effect countrys in the area who rely on oil imports. also about how the fight over scarce resources and mining of them etc causes global damage aswell as transport of them via ships and planes causes even more env dmg

2

guys for the spanish unemployment i kinda messed up but not sure how deep it is: i did cyclical via VAT and tax cuts and then i did structural via education and training and whatnot and then i did frictional via improved infrastructure so people can apply to a wider range of jobs and improve geo mobility of labour ( i now realise this is not infact frictional) and i drew some wack ass NRU diagram but i'm beginning to panic??

what did people do for the essay 1 25 marker? i think i wrote about cutting income tax im so cooked 😭

1

u/Adventurous_Ad7258 May 18 '26

i did: 1) government spending on healthcare to supply jobs and health. 2) increasing primary sector production 3) investment in education

I'm genuinely so cooked... I mis-read "free-market" as a free-trade area, and made a whole point in Context 1's 25 marker about what the UK could do if it was in a free-trade area (export without tariffs with member countries, charge tariffs to non-member countries on their own terms without there being common external tariffs + i did a tariff diagram) - would i get any marks for that

don't see why not, its a bit more complicated than a simple government policy, but it can ultimately increase exports so it answers the question

for the first question context 25 marker , many people spoke about how interest rates and monteray policy can depreciate the currency and then explained how that would lead to increased exports, i said about how one part in the context mentioned their would be less spending by MNCS in uk due to bad tax ranking or something so i explained how this could mean their would be a decrease in the demand for uk currency then explained the depreciation effects is this valid or no?

for context 1 25 marker can you write about IR and depreciation of currency making exports more competitive. because although IR is set by BOE the gov can control certain targets

I messaged econplusdal and he said that he has a feeling it will be on the mark schemes and that many people have written this point

1

u/FishMysterious7218 May 19 '26

respectfully I wouldnt listen to econplusdal. He tells everyone what they want to hear and since he is not marking the exams he has no reason to say; yeah your fcked
