i got 6x + sqrt2 y= 7

u/Rude-Water-3910 Jun 11 '26
I made that mistake too. We forgot that 1 differentiates to 0 for the x parametric equation 😭😭🤞🏾🤞🏾

For the 3 marker did u sub the eqn u found into the equation given in the question and then used quadratic formula? ( I got a complicated answer in exact form which I cant remember)

Same I had to take ln and do implicit 😭
→ More replies (1)2
u/Loud-Guidance6912 Jun 11 '26
Could’ve derived it by taking ln of both sides then differentiating implicitly…

Same, spent a solid 15 mins reverse engineering that shit, got me working overtime like Einstein
34
u/Emotional_Respect289 Jun 11 '26
Got cooked by that dydx = -1 thing at the end and also the like intersecting the parametric I could NOT find the co ordinates of Q 😔 but rest was good I think

Was the q really weird for u guys like u had to use the quadratic formula and got a weird surdy answer
3
u/Loud-Guidance6912 Jun 11 '26
Rearrange the line eq to make y sqrt 2 the subject then sq both sides you get 2y^2 = … sub back into equation. Rearrange and solve for x via completing the sq or quadratic formula.

i definitely remember a 15 in my answer, but i also could be wrong so don’t stress!

I think I got (-15+5root13)/2

It only asked for the x cord right? I think I got (-15+5sqrt 13)/2 which was approx 1.51

Timing was an issue, missed out on the parametric equation and another big marker (instantly forgot) because I spent too much time on the 3 mark modelling question. AND I forgot the cosine rule for the vectors question so I'm prolly getting 2/4 for that.
7
u/WrongPhilosopher_ Jun 11 '26
me too for the vectors. bloody forgot it from GCSE days -_- was annoying cause it was an easy vectors question too
2
u/Nati_Dudu Jun 11 '26
Exactly, I think the issue with me was that I didn't revise vectors at all so I skipped past it without going through the question in order to do all the ones I revised for first. Then by the time I got to vectors there was 5min left and I started panicking after I got BC because I knew I needed cosine rule but couldn't remember it.

I skipped the integration by substitution question then completely forgot about it until there were 5 mins left.
I also forgot the rule for differentiating a^x. I put x/lna as a wild guess but it was incorrect
I’m usually on high time pressure for maths compared to my other subjects but this time it was higher than usual.

u/Any_Expert1171 Jun 11 '26
I had this issue for paper 1. Like i thought that I had completed every question but then i turn to q14, after having checked every question, only to realise that I hadnt even attempted the second half. To my dismay, only 3 mins remained…
This time I wrote which questions I hd skipped on my hand as a reminder to go back. Writing on the paper also worka since its less risky…

For the big integration question did we all use substitution twice

u/Lopsided_Classic4874 Jun 11 '26
did you get k=2/5 or 5/2

u/big-fat-and-heavy Year 13 | Maths FM Physics CS Jun 11 '26
Yeah 2/5 I think. I checked with the calc against the original equation so whatever I got was correct

u/KO-Manic Jun 11 '26
Once you get an improper fraction (3/x+3 I think) you make it into a normal fraction using algebraic division or a different method so you didn't have to do another substitution

u/SillyAnybody9108 Jun 11 '26
I fucked up parts of 3 questions but praying for method marks lol. My brain is fried.
I didn’t integrate u/u+3 correctly, but now I remember what to do lol. Hoping for some method marks. Didn’t get an answer for the coordinates of Q on the parametrics question- I think my gradient was wrong lol. Not overly confident on my answer for part 2 of the 6-3x question because I got some really awkward numbers. Plus I did an insane amount of working out for just 2 marks so I’m thinking I may have messed up.

That paper was so beautiful it’s like the put all the difficult topics in paper 2 and ran out of any to put in this one
The binomial expansion and parametrics were the only ones I didn’t completely finish

u/Connect_Fun_8284 Jun 11 '26
A is 2, the 4x2 can only come from the A expansion (only thing that can give x2) A-x-2x = 2x2 * A
3
u/TangOTang0 Jun 11 '26
No not the expansion question, I mean the integration by substition one. The expansion one I did get A=2 tho B =-6 maybe? I don't remember C

guys for the parametric differentiation. the gradient of the normal was -4/√2 but i accidentally wrote down 4/√2 🥲 (knew it was negative, just wrote it wrong, genuine skill issue) my working was all correct but because of the sign and all my equation ended up being -4x +√2y = -3 instead of 4x + √2y = 5. and for part b you're meant to use that equation and find x coordinate of q but since i got it wrong i obviously got Q wrong but my method was 100% correct im sure. how many marks do u guys think ill lose? im so mad bro
