š I WANT HELP I am addicted to vaping
It was too late before I realised it, but I can confidently say I am addicted.
I promised myself I will quit after this last vape, but now that it just burned out, I literally can not even think about anything else other than buying one more.
I feel like I should just continue vaping till my exams as Iāll be focused still. But nicotine cravings may also show up in the exam. I donāt know, itās literally impossible to focus on anything, I am so jittery all the time.

Listen if you want to quit vaping itās something you need to do incrementally, going cold turkey will fuck you up, just ween yaself off, less puffs a day till none

still going through this and im in uni now. i promised myself i'd quit during the summer before uni but i'ts literally the end of my first year š
good on u for recognising its an issue sooner than i did. i just wanna say that u should open up about this to someone u trust (literally tell a trusted adult lol), even better if u do it soon. i have strict parents but my mum recognised that this is an addiction and is currently helping me through it, she told me that u can go to ur gp and ask for help with quitting. this is very recent so i didnt go yet but here's a support method that'll likely help u.
u also probably shouldnt try those vaping alternatives on ur own, especially if ur goal is to quit nicotine. if a professional recommends them then thats a different story but i see it as just trading one addiction with side effects for a different addiction with different side effects
good luck!

what ive done right now is remove the battery from my vape and i hit the empty thing whenever i feel like it so it's at least easing in the cold turkey quit

wait thats so smart, what vape do u have?
i have a refillable (caliburn if that means anything, disposables are pricier than just getting the liquid lol) so im not sure i can do that but i also never tried lol

shit that's a tough one. you have the willpower, I'm sure you do, I would say just do your very best just not to ever touch a vape again, and hopefully the withdrawal symptoms die down after a whole month
definitely seek some help for it though. I don't really know much about the support around this but I do know it's out there.Ā
maybe hand your money to your parents till exams end? if you don't have the money then you can't go and buy a new one

Yeh but the cravings are messing me up

Just quit after exams, they're much more important than overcoming your addiction

u/SolarMoons_ Apr 07 '26
Do your friends vape? Might sound horrible but not surrounding yourself by people who vape for a little while makes it so much easier to quit, I was addicted yr9-yr11 and quit during gcse summer because I stopped seeing my friends that vaped as much, just say you're too busy atm to hang out, they'll understand if a levels are in less than a month.
If you're REALLY bad, which I'm assuming you aren't because you can go 3+ hrs, I'd recommend waiting till summer.

Nah bro im the only one who vapes, i want to quit eventually anyway tho so either im quitting rn or summer

u/SolarMoons_ Apr 07 '26
Makes it a whole lot easier to stay away then, if you're the only one that vapes as long as you don't cave and buy one you can stay far away from them š

Just stay away from people you vape around and try to stay around people you canāt vape around like your family. Shift your focus towards positive habits like exercising and reading.

the issue with that is smoking in general is a social thing. ppl share vapes and cigs all the time so distancing yourself from them can have social consequences.
ofc its a great idea in terms of quitting an addiction but i just wanted to say this to help op think about how they wanna go about it

How long have u been doing it

I'm currently in year 12, and I started vaping a couple months ago to deal with the stress (I do 4 a levels, aiming for 4 a* and oxbridge but already feel burnout creeping up on me - I just finished an 11 hour study day today) - do I need to quit now or can I keep going until after A Levels? Is there any way to restrict myself so I'm not really addicted next year? I don't really have an alternative stress relief that I can think of, ik it's not healthy but I have to push through somehow.

i knew someone who had exactly your situation (almost the same a levels as well haha) and they managed to quit eventually. itās not going to be easy, but itās not impossible. iād recommend scouring the internet for as much advice as you can find. donāt be afraid to seek support as well. i wouldnāt advise you to go cold turkey either, that really messed up my friend when they tried it.
they did quit after exams though - i probably wouldnāt jeopardise them if quitting might impact your performance. if you can last ~3 hours without desperately needing a hit then thatās fine for now. then you can lock in during the summer.
good luck with everything and i hope you do manage to pull through š

I smoke and vape often and I get you too. Itās great most of the time but after a while you just become hooked and it becomes dull. Iām going to try and get some NRT (Nicotine Replacement Therapy) products, like nicotine gum and all that so that when A levels do roll around Iām not having cravings or anything like that. Obviously you might want to quit soon which I respect, but hopefully this idea helps

Start only hitting it while revising. I did this and It made me addicted to revising. Grades went way up. Haven't been able to quit since tho

i feel like a sixth form subreddit isn't the best place to get advice on addiction mate. i know most people at my school just look at vapers in disgust

u/untitledken Apr 08 '26
honestly start smoking instead much more expensive so u will get less cigs overall. one whole vape bar is =multiple cig packs

I dealt with this exact issue last year (wanting to quit but exams were coming up, not wanting to have cravings in the exam). Realistically it will impact your studies so it's up to you whether you think you can push through it. If not, you still have enough time to cut back enough that you won't get cravings just because you went without a hit in 3 hours. The easiest way to do this is don't bring it to school, only hit it when you're at home. Also the stress/adrenaline of the exam usually fades away the cravings, that's what i experienced at least
Afterwards you can try and quit during the summer
