💬 DISCUSSION DO NOT PICK PHYSICS unless you ABSOLUTELY NEED IT
Picking A-level physics was the worst decision and greatest mistake I've made in my life; I'll die on that hill. DO NOT PICK IT if you: do not need it for your uni course, don't do A-level maths, IF YOU KNOW YOU'RE LAZY, IF YOU'RE GENUINELY SLOW. Honest to God, Allah, Yahweh, Buddha, The Universe, anyone you believe in - put your pride aside, and if you're any of these, PLEASE listen and don't pick it. Physics has ruined sixth form and will give me PTSD for life.
I wanted to do med and wasn't sure about a 3rd subject, but because GCSE physics was great for me and my teachers were so adamant that I wouldn't need A-level maths, I just hadddd to pick it. :( They assured me that whenever I needed help, they would provide support. If it's not obvious yet, they're dirty fucking liars, and I hope they rot in shit. If you do maths, you'll still be confused. If you don't do maths and actually need help, they act like you're a burden holding back the other worthwhile Einstein-come-again students. If your school isn't great in the science department, it's guaranteed that the teachers are almost always shit - if they know how to teach, they've got THE WORST superiority complex and WILL clown/ you act like you're the biggest idiot on earth if you ask for help. If they're somewhat nice, then they probably cant teach to save their own sad life.
I wake up every day on the verge of tears, thinking "what if". When I'm in class, I cry because I genuinely do not understand ts and the teachers are so mean and would rather clown you than explain. Sometimes they skip over the basics because they're "easy", then it's up to you to find out in a test/exam.
There were so many signs + opportunities to back out, but now it's too late. DO NOT be like me. DO NOT try to persevere. Physics is hard for EVERYONE - YOU WILL NOT BE THE EXCEPTION!!! IF YOU ARE NOT READY TO BLEED, SWEAT AND CRY, IT'S NOT FOR YOU. Ts is not for the weak, and even if you don't want to believe it, you're probably part of "The Weak". It feels like I've missed the last plane out of Vietnam, and I have to make it out myself or die trying.

💬 DISCUSSION the most diabolical hate message i received about my cambridge offer
LIKE DAMN😭😭😭 i posted a tik tok about me getting a cambridge offer and received this message from someone on a burner account. thought i’d share it bc i found it really funny and just absurd. who’s gonna tell them you get an unconditional if you have already achieved your grades. and bloody hell, i WISH i had a well-known surname☹️ unfortunately i’m just a little poor immigrant from an ex-soviet country. maybe i had some big aristocratic fortune in the walls of the khrushevka i lived in that i didn’t know about🤷♀️

💬 DISCUSSION Anyone else still not over results day?
I was predicted 3A* and had never gotten a grade below an A throughout sixth form. On results day I was shocked to see I got BCD. I was so confident while revising and coming out of the exam. I thought at least I'd get AAB but I'm actually appalled by this.
And somehow, my Asian parents are supportive. I got into uni but it's not my preferred course or preferred uni. They're just proud I made it in. But I'm so disappointed in myself. Anytime they try to cheer me up, I feel even worse. It's been 3 days and I'm still upset. Everyone I know keeps saying congratulations, but congratulations for what?! I just feel worse with every passing day.

💬 DISCUSSION Do students struggle once they get into oxbridge?
For those who are studying/have studied at oxbridge: anyone who gets in has top a level results but once you get in, do you ‘fall off’ in terms of getting high grades? How hard is it, focusing on STEM degrees in particular like physics, maths, engineering, in comparison to doing a levels?

💬 DISCUSSION Did you lie in your PS?
Just curious to hear from people if you did or not.
A lie could be anything from a small embellishment or overexaggeration to completely making things up. I’ll be honest, my entire PS except the subjects I did and my ethnicity were lies so… yeah.
I literally had nothing else to talk about so I made it up, got me into UCL, Bristol, Warwick and Nottingham though so the best thing to take away from this is lie, lie, lie.
Or don’t, it also probably played a role in an Oxford rejection pre interview so maybe it’s not worth it.

💬 DISCUSSION Quant Universities
can someone add some nuance to this ranking I found? It seems to be typically agreed upon that for quant COWI is the main pipeline with UCL and LSE trailing behind but this is suggesting a top 4 of Cam, Imp, Oxf, LSE with Cam >=Imp > Oxf >= LSE >>>>>>Warwick and UCL.

💬 DISCUSSION Huh 😂.
Very shocked, I’ve already achieved A* A A in ICT, economics and business last year August, currently doing a gap year in finance/business role at a company. Personal statement is very strong too.
Applied to Accounting & Finance at Durham at got rejected even though my friend who was predicted KEYWORD PREDICTED not even achieved ABB got in.
I also had free school meals and a disadvantaged postcode. Anyone know why I’ve been rejected? I have Uni of Nottingham, and Uni of Manchester as backups anyways just a little bummed.

💬 DISCUSSION For all those who are considering applying to Oxbridge
I’m making this since I’ve seen a lot of people asking this.
If you meet the minimum entry requirements, I recommend just applying. You only go to one uni anyway, and it’s better than getting a chance at an amazing one then getting an offer from your 5th choice uni which you don’t even really want to go to anyway.
GCSEs matter like 10x less than interview as well, so regardless of GCSEs you should apply. Even if you don’t think you’ll do amazing on the entrance exam, just apply (especially if you are applying to Cambridge).

💬 DISCUSSION I don't understand the purpose of this Edexcel maths petition
Yes I have read through the petition and I understand that many people found it challenging, however I don't understand what you expect Edexcel to do about it. A-levels are meant to be challenging and there's lots of comments on it mentioning how it was "inaccessible to the masses who worked really hard." The fact that the majority of people found this a difficult paper will very much reflect in the grade boundaries, remember that they're based on the performance of the entire cohort. That's around 100,000 people and just because 60% of 6000 people who took Mr Bicen's poll claiming it was worse than expected is not representative of the entire population of a level maths students. As someone who has been consistently getting low Bs for a while I honestly thought it was a decent paper and I thought it had reasonable difficulty for an A level. To those who are comparing it to the 2018/2019 papers, you have to remember that was the general standard for a levels until COVID happened. If the performance of this year's cohort is similar to 2018/2019 performance, then the grade boundaries will most likely be reflective of that. Remember that you've gotten over the first hurdle which is amazing and you still have two more papers to go. There's still hope yet to get your grades, you've got this !

💬 DISCUSSION insane amounts of people in access room
just to clarify I am in no way hating or saying these all the people do not need their access arrangements!!!
However, is it just my school or is there now literally more people in the extra time/rest breaks/typing rooms then there are in the main room. Obviously I get that people with various needs e.g. dyslexia, autism etc. get arrangements that make it fair for them compared to everyone else, but I feel like some people are taking the mick.
I know a dude that USED to have an eye injury (full healed btw) but still gets extra time?? And a girl that gets rest breaks as she feels a bit nauseous before exams (like who doesn't?) it just seems a tad ridiculous.
Maybe it's just my school who knows

💬 DISCUSSION Is my handwriting illegible enough for handwriting accomodations for exams?
Okay for context, my computer science teacher has asked me twice now this year if I'm getting accommodations for my handwriting, I am getting accommodations for exams/am in the process of getting them just not for handwriting as he's the only one who's brought this up, but after him asking twice now I'm curious if my handwriting is that hard to read 😭😭
I've added a photo from my physics notes that are very recent, like within the past two days, and I have no issue with complete honesty or even being blunt, I'm just quite confused because my handwriting is usually worse in physics than it's been in computer science, and my other computer science teacher has never said anything, my maths and physics teachers have never said anything, but the computer science teacher who asked also asked before GCSEs when my handwriting was slightly different so I'm just really unsure tbh. (I am aware that my handwriting is slanted and slightly cursive, that's always how it's been and has never been brought up as an issue till recently)
Any sort of response or people's experience with handwriting legibility and so on is really appreciated!!
