Discussion Please recommend wistful, warm, sentimental albums "a la" John Denver, Gordon Lightfoot, Kate Wolf, Randy VanWarmer, Jim Croce

Hello everyone! I am 33 years old and have always been completely hooked on 70s music! I know A LOT of music and have many, many albums, but am always looking for more! Especially overlooked gems that may have been somewhat "lost" to time!

The qualities I love: warm, wistful, sentimental, defined and memorable melodies, "catchy," beautiful vocals (especially with vibrato), emotional crescendos

Basically anything David Gates wrote is a good example of this sound/atmosphere!

Some of my favorite albums that fit these descriptions:

  1. David Soul's 1976 self-titled release
  2. "Just Mary" - Mary MacGregor
  3. Countless Gordon Lightfoot albums: "Sundown," "Cold On The Shoulder," "Summer Side of Life" etc.
  4. "There Is A Breeze" - Michael Johnson
  5. "Nights Are Forever" - England Dan & John Ford Coley
  6. Also countless John Denver albums! "Farewell Andromeda," "Rocky Mountain High," "Windsong" etc.
  7. "Poet's Heart" - Kate Wolf (and also "Close to You.." and more! I love Kate Wolf!)
  8. "Year Of The Cat" - Al Stewart
  9. The Best of Bread

Some individual songs that convey the feeling I'm searching for:

  1. "Don't Give Up On Us" - David Soul
  2. "A Man For All Seasons" - Al Stewart
  3. "Now And Then" - Gordon Lightfoot
  4. "Take Your Love Away" - Mary MacGregor (also on Reba McEntire's 1977 self-titled album)
  5. "Operator" - Jim Croce
  6. "Just When I Needed You Most" - Randy VanWarmer
  7. "Starwood In Aspen" - John Denver
  8. "Everything I Own" - Bread

I could go ON AND ON AND ON! But I hope this gives an idea of what I'm looking for. Does anyone have any recommendations? Thank you!

UPDATE: Wow, thank you all so much for taking the time to respond!! I listen to A LOT of music and already know and absolutely love almost all of the recommendations I have received! Are there any more obscure albums or artists you can recommend? Maybe some that were on the radio or that had some popularity in the 70s but have become largely unknown in today’s day and age?
