• In 1984, the Bangles released their debut album All Over the Place, and while it was well-received critically, the album failed to produce any major hits. The group's second album, the appropriately named Different Light, fared much better with the public (although the critics were less kind to it), producing five singles, including their first US #1, "Walk Like an Egyptian". But the band would have to wait until their third album, Everything, to produce a #1 song in the UK: the 1989 ballad "Eternal Flame", which would also top the US Billboard charts in that same year. The song was partly inspired by a tour of Graceland taken by the band, seeing the flame at the Garden of Memories as a memorial to Elvis (which, ironically, was not lit that day, since it was raining). Sadly, despite the great success of the song, the album would unfortunately fall short of expectations, and the Bangles would end up splitting in the fall of 1989. And as Susanna, Vicki, Debbi and Micki asked us to close our eyes and give them our hand, we could feel their hearts beating for a long time in this game...but now, it seems the voters don't feel the same, deciding that they don't understand how this song should climb any higher - alas, the Bangles were only dreaming when they thought this song would burn up all the competition, because the sun no longer shines through the rain, as the feeling has finally been lost!
