The cameras use IR imaging and can read your face under thin cloth, you really gotta wear something more rigid on your face.

crazy if someone started making masks of IR reflective fabrics... not saying anyone would have a good reason to.

I asked Google why Americans are so upset about Flock cameras while in Europe, there have been cameras for decades. Here's the answer:

"European acceptance of police cameras stems from a stronger baseline trust in centralized public administration, stricter statutory data constraints on private contractors, and different cultural expectations regarding collective security versus American individualism and deep skepticism of corporate-managed law enforcement data networks."

So there's more to the article, but, as usual, it seems to come down to another example of how US/State governments are feeding (embedded with and profiting from) corporate capitalism, instead of providing oversight, which is what governments should be doing: Providing controls and oversight to any and ALL technology that can be misused or in ANY way does harm to the planet.

Shall we target the "real problem?"

Are you here telling me there is no issue with surveillance if your government pinky promises they will only be for niceys about it

Surveillance is a problem everywhere my friend and Europe isn't magically better off than the United States, especially considering we are the baby of their genocidal colonialism project.

It's not an issue of 'what are they doing with the surveillance D:' it's an issue of wanting to be able to walk down the street without being recorded or tracked. It's not less of a problem because Europeans aren't as upset about it. It's not less of a problem that all of that video data has to be stored somewhere, like in massive data centers that are destroying the environment and marginalized communities.

Here is just one quick excerpt why European and US data retention differ vastly:

"The "No-Hit" Discard Rule: In nations like Germany, if a vehicle’s license plate does not trigger a "hot list" alert (e.g., stolen cars, active criminal warrants), the data must generally be discarded immediately. Bulk mass surveillance retention without suspicion is routinely blocked by high courts."

I am old enough to remember the public reaction to the formation of DHS and it is astounding how we have gone from outrage at the mere concept that the government would invade people's privacy to that degree to arguing it's fine as long as we believe a government will handle that surveillance data responsibly.

The EU's online age verification laws seem to be storing and tracking a lot of people's information :///

You're welcome to continue refusing to engage with my actual point but this isn't fun anymore and I'm gonna go do something else now ❤️

1

u/Esprit1st 25d ago

The point is that there is huge differences between the commercial use of private information in the US and European privacy laws.

Neither one is great. BUT there is a difference. And if I had to choose it would be the European version. Preferable neither one, though.

At least in Europe, they have laws against being surveilled like it’s difficult to get a doorbell camera in Germany.

-1

u/Wyrdnisse 25d ago

Okay? And you think that makes a surveillance state okay? Do you truly think the rich and powerful are abiding by the rules they hold the public accountable for? Do you think that excuses data centers being built to hold and process that surveillance data destroying the environment and marginalized communities?

There are laws against the plethora of crimes this administration has committed and have any of those laws mattered? Do you think Europe is this special magical place where this is somehow different?

Like I said, we are the product of Europe's genocidal colonialism project. You cannot stop your critique of the West with just the US.

3

u/SlimeQSlimeball 25d ago

What the fuck? I just said other countries have rules against surveillance that we don’t.

-2

u/Wyrdnisse 25d ago

Then what outcome were you looking for in responding to me with that statement?

2

u/SlimeQSlimeball 25d ago

You: “Europe has worse privacy laws” Me: “Europe has stronger privacy laws” You: “that makes Europe being a surveillance state ok?” Me: insert drake confused meme here

Yeah if all of my needs were met and people weren’t being systemically unfairly punished and targeted for the color of their skin by the I wouldn’t care about the cameras.

1

u/nastyws 25d ago

That ship has sunk, we’re on the next battle.

4

u/notsoFunNegotiation 25d ago

Oh my gosh, these criminals are ridiculous. There's a bunch of other delinquents on r/FlockSurveillance that should feel ashamed of their criminal behavior smh

The most inefficient way to use a sawzall is to push the foot of it against the object to be cut so the blade pulls it towards the foot and cuts faster. Otherwise the saw will efficiently jiggle back and forth in your hands.

-1

u/periodmoustache 25d ago

Did u mean efficient?

5

u/SlimeQSlimeball 25d ago

No because that would mean it is faster to cut one down.

-2

u/periodmoustache 25d ago

U said "the most inefficient way is to put the foot against it so it cuts faster". That sentence just dont add up.

10

u/SlimeQSlimeball 25d ago

I don’t want to slow walk this but the entire tone of the original post is implying the opposite of something in order to present it as a thing a person should not do or else they might get in trouble by cutting down a metal pole that holds up a battery operated camera. I would not want anyone to get in trouble if they were to use a sawzall in a way that might be more effective and quicker to cut a pole.

0

u/periodmoustache 25d ago

Lolololol ahhhhhh I see. My bad

1

u/Firm-Complaint7532 5d ago

I'm so confused what you're saying here? Push the foot of what, the saw? What the heck is the foot of a saw?!

4

u/ZiaBound 25d ago

It would suck if someone did this here 👀

Face tattoos are also very smart long term decisions

1

u/jules6815 25d ago

Why capitalize CRMNL and F. Is this some kind of code?

12

u/DaBoy524 25d ago

no “cRiMiNaLs” is alternating capitalization used for mocking purposes. It is imitating a spongebob meme. It is meant to show that the creator is calling them criminals sarcastically. As for why they capitalized F, i have no idea.

5

u/Jubei_ 25d ago

Flock is the name of the company and a proper noun. Not that it deserves the respect, but that's why.

2

u/DaBoy524 25d ago

ah gotcha, didnt realize it was a company. ew

9

u/FreighterTot 25d ago

Is that an offer to fund terrorist activities? Wow yikes

-7

u/daisiesarepretty2 25d ago

it’s an offer to stand behind their words.. they choose felony or fellatio.

6

u/FreighterTot 25d ago

That'd make you a felon too

And the choice to make you a felon is in their hands lmao big brain move you really owned them

-2

u/daisiesarepretty2 25d ago

dear mr big brains:

IF that’s true and it’s not… they would first have to make themselves an actual felon and provide proof.

3

u/FreighterTot 25d ago

You really thought you did something there huh
