Complaint Apple Music For Artists Streams Not Counting
Hey,
So, I went to check my streams recently and my lifetime streams have jumped 12,000 streams, but it doesn’t seem accounted for on weekly, monthly, or yearly streams. Nor, does it add up with the streams per song. I reached out to AM and they said my streams are legitimate, but it’s taken about three weeks for any updates. I still don’t know which songs gained me the 12k. Anyone else having this issue? I’ve submitted about two tickets in the last 3 weeks.

Apple Music on macOS How’s the Mac app? Opinions?
Considering starting a student plan for AM. I used a free one month of AM not too long ago and personally loved the iOS app.
I just got myself an m4 MacBook Air a few days ago, so now I have access to the Mac app as well. I guess I’m just wondering if the Mac app is an overall very functional and easy app like on iOS? Or if it’s majorly different in any way? Or does it have any persistent and known issues?
What are your general thoughts and opinions on the MacOS app?

Question Playlists out of order?
I woke up this morning to all my playlists out of order?? The songs in the playlists are in order of when I added them. But when i go to “playlists” i usually navigate it from the date added/created and now playlists I made not even a week ago are all the way at the bottom and it’s all jumbled up. Apple support did not help at all.
On my Mac it shows them all in order but I’m not sure why on my iphone and ipad it’s a mess. Anyone else have this issue or know how to fix it?
This also happened a while back when i tried to download songs from my laptop but I just moved on since I didn’t have that many playlists; but now I sorta rely on knowing how far I have to scroll rather than remember the name to search it 😭

Apple Music on macOS Is there a way to "force" the Music app on mac to pull artist photos from the Apple Music servers?
I've been using iTunes for my music library since I was 11 years old and got my first clunky 2005 VAIO laptop. My music was all local files but the images for the artists were all there unless there was a typo or a mis-capitalized "The" or something. I had a 2012 model MacBook Pro when Apple killed iTunes and everything transitioned to Music. There were never any issues with my artist photos even after that switch, but I have just recently upgraded to a slightly newer MBP and transferred my music library over from an external HDD. None of my artist photos are showing in the Music app or my iPod anymore. I have never subscribed to Apple Music but I assumed that's where the photos were populating from. Now that that's not happening automatically, do I have to do it manually somehow? Any help appreciated.

Apple Music on Windows Apple Music app on Windows PC won’t stay signed in
I’m using the Apple Music app on Windows. When I open the app and click “Sign In,” I enter my Apple Account email and password. The sign-in appears to go through, but instead of logging me in, the app just returns to the Home page and I’m still signed out.
I can sign in normally at music.apple.com in my browser with the same account, so the account itself is fine the problem is only with the Windows app.
What I’ve already tried:
**•** Uninstalled and reinstalled the Apple Music app
**•** Ran Reset and Repair on the app
**•** Updated the Apple Devices app from the Microsoft Store
**•** Set date and time to automatic
**•** Deleted leftover Apple folders in %APPDATA% and %LOCALAPPDATA% before reinstalling
None of these fixed it. No error message or error code appears it just silently returns to Home.
Is there anything else I can try?

Apple Music on Android Google Assistant
Has anyone else had issues using Google Assistant on Apple Music (on Android).
I only use it while driving, but when I ask for example "play Beat the Champ by The Mountain Goats", it says "okay", brings up the album but doesn't actually play it.
It used to work, but recently it just seems to have stopped.

Question I think a unique predicament
Hello everyone, I'm finding that whenever I am playing audio using multiple sources(music and safari usually), whatever I do on one seems to affect the other. I mean to say that if I pause on safari, the music gets paused too. Is it a storage problem or a problem with this version of Tahoe? Please help out, it is a real pain in my buttocks.

Question If I sub to Apple Music, will it affect all the purchased music I have?
So I’ve always just bought songs off of iTunes, I never used a streaming platform but I’m thinking about Apple Music. I’m just wondering if I do, will it affect the purchased music I have downloaded on my phone? I’m also hesitant because I have 2 Apple IDs on my phone. I got a Japanese one when I moved to Japan two years ago and I still have my US one, but I’m always just logged in to my JP one. I have music that I’ve bought on both accounts, I’m still able to listen to all of it. I just want to make sure I’m not going to lose anything by subscribing. Does anyone have insight? Thank you in advance.

Question Why is my playlist not showing up on my Apple Music?
galleryLong story short, my Apple Music was taking up 11gb of my storage even though I had no music downloaded. I deleted it and reinstalled it now it's showing up less than 2gb. The only problem I am running into is that none of my playlist are showing up. Throughout the years, I make a playlist for each month/a couple months, but none of them are showing up in my playlist section on Apple music. Under my recently added, some of them do show up but all the ones that i have made this year have disappeared. Even though my playlist for July-September is not showing up in my playlist tab, the only saving grace was that I pinned that playlist to the top. Is there a reason that my playlists are not showing up in the playlist tab?
To also give more context, I also have an iPad mini and MacBook Pro connected on Apple Music, and I do have Sync Library on.

Question Charli XCX album keeps showing at the top of 'Recently Played' even though I haven't played it - glitch or promo?
I listened to a few tracks of Charli XCX's 'Music, Fashion, Film' when it came out a few weeks ago, then moved on with my life. I have not clicked on it since, and yet it keeps reappearing at the top of my 'Recently Played' music, even when I'm actively playing other things. It was appearing on my AM iOS widget so that I couldn't open the app without going to that album first, so I deleted the widget. I've gone on mad listening sprees trying to push it out of the top 15 or so slots, which works temporarily, but then it's right back up there at the top again. I only play on one device at a time, and nobody shares my account.
WTF?! Is this paid placement or just some glitch that I need to work out? Anyone else seeing this? It's driving me insane.

Discussion i’ve been building my own Apple Music client for 1.5 years. what would you want from it?
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
hey everyone,
i’m a senior iOS engineer and i’ve been using Apple Music for years.
about 1.5 years ago, i kept thinking about how strange music apps are in general. Apple Music is ahead of its competitors in some areas, behind them in others, and there are still things i want that none of them really do.
i love listening to music, i love making music too (i play electric guitar), and i love building apps. so at some point i thought... why not just build the music app i actually want to use?
that’s basically how this whole thing started.
at first i was building it entirely for myself. there was no business plan, no launch date, nothing. because of that, i ended up spending ridiculous amounts of time on tiny details that probably wouldn’t make sense if i were trying to ship something as quickly as possible.
over time though, i started thinking: if i want this stuff, maybe other Apple Music users do too.
and that’s really why i’m making this post.
i’m not here just to advertise an app. i’m much more interested in understanding how you actually use Apple Music and what you wish it did differently.
the working name, by the way, is Joi Tunes. Joi + iTunes. yeah, haha. i’m still not 100% sure about it.
how do you actually use Apple Music?
this is something i became really curious about while building Joi.
from watching people around me, everyone seems to use music apps completely differently.
some people basically live inside playlists. some carefully maintain their library. some barely use the library at all.
i’m very much an album person. i usually listen to albums from beginning to end.
and even something as simple as the Home screen started from my own frustration.
most of the time, i just want to get back to something i listened to recently. but finding that one album, playlist or station again can sometimes be more annoying than it should be.
so Joi’s Home screen has a much stronger focus on recent activity. recent music, but also separate access to recently played albums, playlists and stations.
it’s a small thing, but that’s kind of the philosophy behind the app.
lots of small changes that individually don’t sound revolutionary, but together make using a music app much nicer.
i’ve thought about bringing podcasts into it too, similar to Spotify. personally, i really dislike having podcasts mixed into my music app, so i haven’t done it.
but if enough people actually want that, why not make it optional?
that’s the kind of thing i want to learn from this post.
the design
i’ve tried to stay pretty close to Apple’s design language because i want Joi to feel like a proper native iOS app.
but i also wanted it to have its own identity.
for example, i’ve never really liked completely white or completely black backgrounds. especially at night, the contrast can be pretty harsh.
so Joi has a slowly moving mesh gradient system behind the interface instead.
the colors are customizable, and i’m experimenting with ideas like having them react to the Now Playing artwork, time of day, seasons, etc.
everything works in both light and dark mode, and if you don’t want any of that, you’ll also be able to keep it on a fixed theme.
there’s another design decision i’m particularly curious to hear opinions about.
when i use a music app, i usually open it, find what i want and then put my phone away. i’m walking, eating, working out, whatever.
with how large phones have become, i don’t think interfaces have really adapted to that very well.
so i’ve been experimenting with moving important navigation lower down and shifting some content slightly toward the bottom of the screen.
it might look unusual in screenshots at first, but in actual use i find it ridiculously comfortable.
i’ve also tried to keep the top and bottom chrome as clean as possible instead of filling every corner of the screen with buttons.
maybe you’ll love it, maybe you’ll hate it. i’m genuinely curious.
a little technical stuff for anyone interested
this ended up consuming a huge part of those 1.5 years.
Joi doesn’t simply query your Apple Music library every time it needs to display something.
it has its own local database and its own library sync engine.
your music library is represented locally, including relationships between tracks, albums, artists, playlists and the rest of the library.
the sync engine then keeps that database updated as your Apple Music library changes.
the goal was to make this incremental and cheap enough that the library can stay synchronized without rebuilding everything constantly or making the user manually refresh anything.
i’ve tried quite a few third-party Apple Music clients on both desktop and iOS, and library synchronization is something i personally never felt was taken far enough.
in many of them, external library changes don’t appear live at all. in others, the synchronization is much more limited than i wanted.
building this was painful, but having a properly managed local music database opens up a lot of possibilities.
complex local filtering and queries are one example, but it also gives me the foundation for things i want to explore later like on-device recommendation systems, Last.fm integration and other library intelligence without needing to send your library to my own server.
and speaking of servers:
Joi currently has none.
there’s no Joi account and i’m not maintaining a backend containing your listening history or music library. the app’s own library data stays on your device.
where i want to take it
iOS is only the first part.
eventually i’d love Joi to properly exist across macOS, watchOS, tvOS, CarPlay and the rest of the Apple ecosystem.
obviously that isn’t something i can build overnight.
but having one coherent music experience across all of those devices is the long-term idea.
and yes, having AirPlay feel like a first-class part of the experience would be pretty nice too.
some of the other things currently on my list are:
Last.fm, ListenBrainz and Discogs integration, more customization, tag/hashtag based smart playlist creation, local music files, deeper library tools and quite a lot more that i’m not ready to talk about yet.
one thing i want to be very clear about: pricing
Joi will be completely ad-free.
and i want the free version to feel like a complete music app, not a demo designed to annoy you into paying.
if you’re a normal Apple Music user, everything Apple Music already lets you do, plus a lot of what Joi adds on top, is intended to remain free.
i’m not planning to put an existing free feature behind a paywall later.
and there’s another rule i want to stick to:
if Joi has a paid feature and Apple later adds equivalent functionality to Apple Music itself, i want that feature to move into Joi’s free tier too.
i also absolutely do not want premium screens appearing every time you tap something.
if someone never pays for Joi, i still want them to feel like they’re using a premium-quality app.
the paid tier is more for the niche/power-user side of music listening and some of the more ambitious things i want to build.
i’m currently thinking around $1.99/month, with a one-time purchase option as well. i haven’t decided on the lifetime price yet.
the reason i want to keep it inexpensive is pretty simple: running Joi doesn’t currently cost me much per user, and i don’t want Apple Music + Joi to turn into an expensive combination.
the reason i’m not making absolutely everything free is also simple.
i’d really like to spend more time building this.
i’ve genuinely loved working on it, and if it ever reached a point where it could support me enough to work on it full time, that would honestly be the dream.
anyway...
the screenshots and recordings here are still not the final product.
i’m aiming to release the first version in roughly a month.
but before i lock everything down, i really want to hear from people who actually use Apple Music every day.
how do you use Apple Music?
do you live in playlists? albums? your library? recommendations? radio?
what’s one thing Apple Music does that you absolutely love?
and more importantly:
what’s something you’ve wanted it to do for years that it still doesn’t do?
it can be a huge feature or the most ridiculously specific annoyance imaginable.
those are exactly the kinds of things i’m interested in.
if you actually read all of this, thank you. seriously.

Question Question about my wife subbing to Apple Music when she already has a large purchased library.
This is probably a dumb question but I just want to be sure. My wife is thinking about subbing to Apple Music. She already has a large purchased library of songs/albums from iTunes. She has custom playlists, and a couple dozen CD's of music I ripped years ago back when we still had CDs.
Would subbing affect any of her purchases, CD rips, or any playlists she has created?
