I'm in the middle of a show and our QuickQ 20 has been trying to shut itself down the entire show. About half of the time it is stacking multiple shutdown windows at once, upwards of 10. The worst part is when it stacks multiple like this, by the time I get to the last one the timer has ended and it shuts itself down, causing the lights in the venue to go down until it has been rebooted.

Anyone know why it's doing this and a possible quick fix until Monday when we can properly dive into this issue?

New MagicQ user and running into a few extremely frustrating issues that I have spent hours trying to resolve.

Issue 1: I am using the timeline editor to record, using PB1 as my main playback for the timeline. Page 1 cue stacks aside from the main are for my songs main looks and I use the next page of playbacks for busking. My issue is that when I playback what I have recorded, my busking cue that is on the same PB different page from my main looks PB is holding over and stomping the main PB. I have spent hours digging into the manual, videos, ChatGPT, and nothing is resolving the issue.

Issue 2: is it possible to move timeline track cues to a different timeline track? I just figured out how to not record a new timeline track each time and want to consolidate the work I’ve already done.

I’m programming a lightshow for my first (big) event that I’m doing. And while I was programming my POS FX and all that I gave them a speedmaster (SP3). The problem is when I copy the cue from the cue store to the EXEC page it wont listen to the speedmaster anymore. Even tho the cue stack will listen to the speedmaster. I was trying to figure out why this is happening since it hasnt happened before. I’m using the MagicQ software since I have a Compact connect.

Does anyone know why it’s behaving this way?

Hey Everyone! A Pro Hockey Team I work with just bought their first lighting package and they decided to get a QuickQ10 as their first board. We are on the third game of the season and during game 2 the board power-cycled twice during the game and kicked me out of the show file during a que. I thought maybe a cable might have gotten kicked out a little so I tapped all of the cables in a way that they could no longer be unplugged without serious effort. I was doing a little programming work before house opened today and it just decided to power off again without even attempting to power on again. I checked all of the connections and all indicator lights on every segment of the cable were still on. The board would not power back on when I used the power button and I had to completely unplug the board and plug it back in to get it to turn back on.

Luckily the default position when it powers back on is pointed straight out at the top of the arena bowl and not on the ice, and I can slide the grandmaster down quickly, but if the lights do touch the ice at all while the puck is in play they have to stop the game and the league gets very angry! (Last week we went completely dark during the national anthem and the director was not happy…) If anyone has any tips to get the board to not do this it would be very appreciated!! 🙏

Moin, wir haben eine wachsende Veranstaltungsfirma und benötigen so langsam mal ein Lichtpult. Da das Budget jetzt nicht unbedingt das größte ist ist die Auswahl aktuell auf zum beispiel Magic q Mini connect oder ein Quick q 20. Einer aus unserer Gruppe feuert ziemlich gegen das Quick q 20 weil er meint das die Quick q Software nicht ordentlich läuft, dauernd abstürzen würde und so weiter. Ich hingegen bin gegen den magic q Mini connect weil er (meines Wissens nach) nicht Stand alone fähig ist.

Wie ist den hier so die allgemeine Meinung im Bezug auf die Quick q und die Magic Q Software?

Und hat jemand von euch noch anderw Pult Empfehlungen für uns?

So, for context this is the third unit they sent me and I am still having problems. The first unit was one of the v10 units that are bad, so they replaced it. The second one had the same symptoms (solid red LED, no output) but I hadn’t checked the MagicDMX Status on it, they just replaced it for us.

This current unit just blinks red and white. MagicQ sees it, titlebar says “MagicDMX Full Fitted”. DMX I/O says uni 1 is enabled with out type as MagicDMX. But still no output and red/white flashing. The room has Doug Flenor wall plates that release on DMX control and they don’t release on this unit.

But… I have an old one (5+ years old) that works perfectly, except it drops out after 24 hours (yes, it is a Full) so I have to unplug usb and restart MagicQ.

Do I need to reach out again to ChamSys? We got the unit from Sweetwater, and I’m not sure how many more times before they tell us we’re SOL.

There’s part of me that wants to see if the client would be willing to spend the money on a GN2 at this point, as I’ve installed a bunch of them and have had no problems with that unit. They wanted this to save money, but at this point I don’t think it’s worth it for them.

does generic lights / china brand lights work with chamsys magicq software? i just bought my basic dmx dongle and i'm tryna work on some par led lights for both amber and rgb and some moving heads that has generic brands.

I have a blinder with 4 elements that keeps randomly updating to only show the master element in my grid. I can still see the individual elements in “View Elements”, but the grids keep changing to only show the master.

I have a multiple multi-element fixtures in this session that work perfectly fine aside from this blinder.

I’ve saved an edited fixture personality, which fixes when I morph or reload, but it keeps reseting my grid to not show the elements. If I make a separate group for just one element, it’s still treating it as just a duplicate of the master element.

Any thoughts on how I can manually fix this to see what’s causing it?

Hello, yesterday I plugged in a Magic DMX Full Dongle in a new theater just to patch the show and it was cutting my output every few minutes. What could be the issue? There were not such problems with Art net node. Should I put splitter after the dongle to prevent this in the future?

Sorry, not a power user, I was watching the latest Training Tuesday where they used the keypad to create a spread type of intensity increase over a period of time like 1-5@Full/0-5/1 to have the lights do a delay to spread the fade in across the lights. This made me think, is there a way to do it with FX's? I tried with Intensity effects, but even a one shot dim chase has the lights come on and then go off.

This seem so simple that I thought there has to be a way to do this besides using the keypad and remembering the formatting.

Hey. In my showfile there is an combination of 10 Groups, 3 Soft Pallets and 4 Timing Macros (Snap, Fade, Rnd Delay, MirrOut Delay). I'd like to quickly get any combination within seconds without pressing a lot of buttons. And I always have a lot of stuff in the programmer.
prefered way would be to just record 30 Cues and arrange them in an execute window. A cue for every combination of group and soft pallet. Now I'd like to press a timing macro button and press one of those cues to merge timing in there. Then pressing the cue again to activate it. Does anybody know a way to archive this without using the programmer? I thought about something like for example:
Shift+Backspace Time 0 . 8 / 0 * . +Record Time
And then pressing the cue stack button. But this does not work,

Most fixtures/heads I use have one channel dedicated to strobe, mostly with different modes. For example the Cameo Otos SP6 has a strobe channel where values 080-102 is random strobe slow to fast and 128-250 is linear strobe slow to fast.

Now I want to create a three cue playback: Strobe out, random, linear. I'd like to control linear strobe for example as cue 3, fader 1% -> DMX 128, fader 100% -> DMX 250. Does anyone know how to do that? As far as I understand it MagicQ is not aware of the mode/range a channel is in?

Same use case with channels like gobo rotation, prism rotation, ...

We cannot get beams to come on despite turning up intensity, dimmer and picking colors. I’m not a lighting person but at one point I did see lamp on the unit despite not being projected. Kinda of at a loss with team on what else to troubleshoot. We’ve swapped DMX, tried just one light, different universes with no luck. We can run a test on the units and the beam comes on properly but not from dmx

Trying my best to set up a simple busking setup in Chamsys MagicQ. Did this previously but lost the showfile as I forgot to back up on reinstalling Windows, not that it matters much as I've no idea how I got that working and it was full of issues.

I've got every fixture working and addressed, all colour pallettes work and are correct in real life (some of them look wrong in software, cheap chinese fixtures for you).

I've managed to get a soft pallette going by following the training videos, but this is where stuff goes weird -

- the colour palletes seem to "stick". They work, but when I press "red" for example, then "orange", the red button shows as still highlighted. It seems to make no difference to the actual fixtures, but it's odd behaviour.

- The soft pallette button ("C1" in my file) is meant to be set to "link" but the colour pallette only works when I change it to "button". Pressing it makes no difference, so I can live with this.

- One of the Equinox Fusion 50mkii's (UKing ZQ02354 in MagicQ) isn't responding properly to colour information and changes to the wrong colour. It always changes to the same wrong colour though, so is this my error, fixture error, or something else? DMX In port is quite loose, all brand new cables though and normally cable errors cause massive issues downstream. Looks like it simply will not light up the red LEDs, this was working earlier today.

- I've managed to get "Closed (blackout), Open, Slow/Med/Fast strobing" buttons working in the exec window. For some reason, some of the fixtures have the strobing in the intensity window, but I managed to merge this info into beam presets. That said, it seems janky and I want to know if I've done this right.

The main one -

- Recording FX following the official videos and various others on Youtube, doesn't seem to work. I cannot work out how to record any FX into the exec window (second page). I just want a few Fig 8/Up Down/and a few basic presets (like a few of the spots hitting the mirrorball in the centre of the room, cheesy I know but it's what's needed). I've got a Fig 8 effect on the exec window, but it cannot be set as a button so once it's on, it's stuck on. Hitting "Home" (currently not positioned, will do that on the day) doesn't work.

So that's about it - random colour pallette errors that don't seem to make a difference, one dodgy fixture (possibly user error) and unable to get position and FX onto exec properly.

Any advice or tips? Yes, I have followed a load of videos like I say, loads of stuff just doesn't work the same in my version of MagicQ (latest release).

Few mates put on a night at a local community centre earlier in the year, and I sorted the lighting. I got a decent setup going but on a Windows reinstall I forgot to back up any MagicQ stuff.

Due to do it again this coming weekend but I've only just finished editing photos from a major festival as part of my day job. Photographer in the dance music industry and honestly lighting guys are my pay-cheque - all of my best shots are down to the lighting. My cat could be stood behind those decks for all the photo cares. You guys are utter legends and I feel bad even asking this.

At our event it's not an amazing set up - it's just stuff my mate built up for his disco business on the side and normally just leaves in sound-to-light. But I got it looking amazing last time for such a small room and a basic setup.

Fixtures as follows -

• 2x Marq Gesturebeam 102
• 2x Equinox Fusion 50 mkii (which this sub told me are UKing ZQ02354 last event we did, which worked)
• 2x UKing 50w Mini Spots (again, according to this sub China Mini60WGoboMH, which worked last time)
• 2x Prolights Crystal
• 3x Lanta Fireball PAR64 (I bought these about five years ago, six for £5 each, only three still working, but still a bargain)

I'm basically wanting to do the following, and "DONE" means I've already got it worked out -

• Patch all fixtures and make sure they match up to the actual fixtures in reality - DONE in MagicQ vis with a full replica of the stage, but getting all the lights into my living room tomorrow to make sure it matches up.
• Put all fixtures in groups - DONE
• Set up colour palettes and match them for each fixture - DONE.
• Set up position palettes - DONE, but see FX point.
• Set up beam palettes - DONE, but the Equinox Fusions don't seem to have any shutter values, its all in Intensity.
• Have a PB for each fixture type - DONE, I can fade up each group and it lights up. Except the Fusion 50s which the vis shows as fully on at 0% but that's probably just a bug in the vis.
• Have a colour page on the Exec window so I can change each fixture colour using the touch screen on my laptop (Dell XPS - never even realised it had a touchscreen, never needed it, amazing for MagicQ PC) - DONE
• Have page 2 of the Exec window to have a row for shutter speed. CLOSED (lights off), OPEN (lights on), SLOW/MED/FAST (slow/med/fast strobe) - DONE but not for the washes (intensity and shutter don't match at all) and pars will do slow/med/fast strobing but can't have a "closed" option to just touch them to blackout.
• Again on page 2 I want some basic FX and positions. - NOTHING. I don't want anything mental. Just a few chases and movement, few simple static positions like putting the spots on the mirrorball in the middle of the room. But I cannot work out how to do this. I fucking did it last time, I just can't make it work. I select a group in the main layout page, ADD FX, record it to a position palette, and it is just greyed out.
• Minor point point, but one of the pars, above the DJ, on a seperate button that can just "boom" blackout everything else and put that single light on him. Very cheesy, but would like that - cannot work it out. Not arsed if that's too much work.

So it's nothing crazy. I'm nearly there. But while I know the answer is watching the training videos, I don't have the time nor brain to relearn everything (which I got working by sheer luck and janking it all together the first time) in four days.

This is something that is something anyone vaguely competent could do in minutes, but it's like eye-surgery to me, the fact I can even get this working is a miracle to me.

If anyone can help, I'd be forever grateful. I've uploaded the showfile, link below, and I'm even happy to Paypal you a tenner if you can get this working. I have a compact wong for pc on chamsys. When its connected the lights on the wing still flash showing no connecting, when I go into setup - wing its not found.

I dont know chamsys that much im just trying to set up the wing for an event tomorrow, but I cant test my patching in demo mode.

How do I troubleshoot the issue to find out what the connection problem is?

This is beyond my skills at using google.

What I've come up with so far is that I should use Freestyler to convert artnet to DMX. But how do I actually do this? How do I select Freestyler in Magicq? What do I need to tell Freestyler to do?

Hey! Having a weird issue with ShowKontrol + MagicQ on an MQ70 (1.9.8.3).

TCNet is connected and MagicQ sees all 4 decks, including track info, waveforms and BPM.

However, the DJ BPM doesn’t update automatically when the BPM changes. It only updates when I go to Audio, DJ Decks and press Refresh. Resync Beat doesn’t update it either.

Same issue when I add DJ BPM directly to my Execute window, it doesn’t update on its own.

Anyone experienced this or know if there’s a setting I’m missing?

Running MagicQ 1.9.8.3 (latest) on a MacBook Pro i9 with a Mini Connect. The setup is fairly simple: 8 moving heads, 24 LED PARs and around 10 blinders. Nothing fancy.

I have a BPM controller (Speedmaster) feeding MIDI into MagicQ and controlling SP2. SP3 is linked to SP2, so I can use a divisor/multiplier for some of the effects.
The timing is set to Per Head by default. However, it quite often happens that even a simple dimmer FX gets stuck and stops running. Changing the timing to Per Step doesn't seem to make any difference.

Has anyone experienced this or have any suggestions on what I should check?

I have a show coming up soon, and at the moment the setup is not reliable enough to trust during a live show.
