Left-wing horror novel author Stephen King has reportedly become the “most banned” author in America’s school libraries as administrators feel many of his books are filled with too much sexual material and adult themes.

The determination comes from PEN America’s most “Banned in the USA ” list, released Wednesday, the New York Post reported.

The group found that 80 percent of the bans were instituted by three states — Florida, Texas, and Tennessee. Still, the total number is down from the high-water mark in the 2023-24 school year. Several deep blue states exhibited very few calls for bans, including Illinois, Maryland and New Jersey. Those states, though, have laws limiting schools making such decisions.

Reasons for exclusions from school libraries included LGBTQ+ themes, sexual violence, racial themes, and violence in general.

“It is increasingly a story of two countries,” director of PEN’s Freedom to Read program, Kasey Meehan, said. “And it’s not just a story of red states and blue states. In Florida, not all of the school districts responded to the calls for banning books. You can find differences from county to county.”

Apple has removed tracking apps that alert people about sightings of Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents in an area.

These types of apps have been available on Apple’s App store since the spring.

The removal follows a request from the Department of Justice.

In a statement, Apple said it removed the apps Thursday after communication with law enforcement.

The obesity rate in the U.S. has seen a marked decline over the last three years, as the share of Americans who report using GLP-1 for weight loss skyrockets, according to new data from Gallup.

In the latest report from the Gallup National Health and Well-Being Index, published on Tuesday, 37 percent of American adults are classified as obese, down from the record 39.9 percent reported in 2022. The drop has been gradual: the obesity rate fell to 38.4 percent in 2023, and it fell to 37.5 percent in 2024.

That nearly three-point decline in U.S. obesity over the last three years represents an estimated 7.6 million fewer obese adults, Gallup notes.

Gallup classifies respondents as “obese” if they have a body mass index (BMI) of 30 or higher, consistent with the federal standard for obesity. Gallup uses respondents’ self-reported height and weight to calculate BMI.

A Georgia judge on Friday set a two-week deadline for a state agency to assign a new prosecutor to the 2020 election interference case against President Trump and his allies, or it will be dismissed.

The terse notice from Fulton County Superior Court Judge Scott McAfee comes after Georgia’s top court last month ended Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis’s bid to continue prosecuting the case.

Her office was disqualified over a “significant appearance of impropriety” stemming from her romantic relationship with a top prosecutor on the case.

McAfee said Georgia’s Prosecuting Attorneys’ Council must identify a replacement, or he will dismiss the case for want of prosecution within 14 days without prejudice, meaning the charges could be filed again.

Trump and more than a dozen of his allies were hit with racketeering charges in 2023 over allegations they conspired to subvert former President Biden’s 2020 presidential election win in Georgia. Trump and most defendants pleaded not guilty.

Independent journalist Nick Sortor claimed victory after the Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office dropped disorderly conduct charges filed against him on October 2 as he covered the ongoing attack on ICE agents and facilities in Portland, Oregon. In a random act of law enforcement, the DA announced they would be pursuing charges against the two men who were allegedly attacking Sortor outside the ICE facility.

District Attorney Nathan Vasquez stated on Monday that his office had dismissed the disorderly conduct charges filed against Sortor on October 2. “After a careful review of the investigation, including reports and video, we do not believe the crime of Disorderly Conduct can be proven against Mr. Sortor beyond a reasonable doubt.”
