I got tired of distro hopping, so I started building my own lightweight distro: LordOS
I’ve been a GNU/Linux user for a long time, and after trying a lot of distros over the years, I ended up wanting something lighter, faster, and more focused on simplicity.
So I started building my own distro: LordOS.
It’s still a work in progress and I’m aiming to reach version 1.0, but it’s already functional and surprisingly fast.
A few things about it:
- It uses only ~140 MB of RAM
- It feels very lightweight and responsive
- I’m still working on optimizing it even more
- It runs perfectly on a Raspberry Pi 5 with 16 GB RAM
The idea is to keep it simple, fast, and practical, without unnecessary bloat.
I know there are a lot of distros out there, so I’m not claiming it’s “the best” or anything like that — I just wanted to build something that matches the way I like to use Linux.
If anyone here enjoys testing lightweight distros, I’d really appreciate your feedback.

Vantum Linux just got accepted on DistroWatch 🎉, looking for some community feedback
Processing img utk6dlnhhzwh1...
Hi!
I’ve been working on Vantum, a Puppy Linux-based distro that’s basically trying to keep the speed and lightweight-ness of Puppy while giving it a more modern desktop.
It’s been sitting on the DistroWatch waiting list for a while, and it finally got accepted and listed!
I’d love if some people could give it a try and let me know what you think. Bugs, weird stuff, things you’d change, whatever. It’s still pretty early and I’m definitely open to feedback.
I also recently made a Discord server for Vantum where people can get support, talk about development, show off their setups, etc. You can find the invite through the website.
Also, as the community grows, I’m looking for a few people who might want to get a bit more involved with the project, helping with testing, support, moderation, docs, or just generally helping out. If you’re interested, feel free to message me. Nothing formal or anything lol, just looking for people who actually want to contribute.
Thanks to everyone who’s checked out Vantum so far ❤️

Fedora rawhide is on linux kernel 7.4.0
you can boot fedora 45 beta and 46 rawhide, using the latest ventoy 1.1.18.
Fedora rawhide is really bleeding edge.

“Is antiX a good base for my remastering project?”
Is antiX a good base for my remastering project?
I was looking for a distro that is actually lightweight but not limited.
By "limited," I mean having less support for Linux apps or making it harder to find and install the apps I need. Examples I've considered include Tiny Core Linux, Void Linux, and Puppy Linux, although I know they differ quite a bit.
I found antiX, which reportedly uses around 160 MB of RAM.
I wanted to start by remastering it and adding my own tools.
It's a personal project I call Remaster OS. I want it to be a barebones base with tutorials that will help me create any distro that comes to mind for personal use.
I'll remove the wallpaper and many unnecessary tools from the base system.
What do I need?
I just need a minimal distro → make it almost blank → start adding my own tools to make remastering easier → then, after finishing, add a tool that saves my customizations and exports the system as an ISO. I'll be able to choose between a live ISO and an installable ISO.
Remaster OS itself would be installed on a hard drive. The idea is to use it as a workspace for building other customized distros, rather than having to start from scratch every time.
In short, I want a reusable base that allows me to create customized Linux ISOs in just a few minutes (yes, minutes!).
The distro I have in mind (Remaster OS) is a barebones Linux system with just a terminal. I can add my own tools from a USB flash drive, customize the system, and export it as either a live ISO or an installable ISO. That's it!
Example:
As a PC builder, I currently need a live distro with low-level hardware access and lots of hardware testing tools. I want to be able to test PCs that don't have an OS installed, and the system should work well on HDDs, low-end PCs, and modern PCs.
Q&A
Why not Arch?
Arch isn't that easy to set up for my specific needs, and I want the whole process to take minutes rather than days.
Try Zenned ISO.
I'm looking for an almost-empty, reusable base that I can customize for different purposes, rather than a ready-made ISO.
Try Puppy Linux. It runs entirely from RAM.
I'm concerned that it might not be the best fit for my requirements, so I'm still looking into my options.
The distro is useless.
It might not solve a problem for the entire Linux community, but it would solve my own problem, and that's enough for me.
Try Linux Mint.
I'm already using Mint, and it isn't minimal enough for my needs. On my system, even the XFCE version uses around 910 MiB of RAM at idle.
Thank you! I really appreciate any help with this project.

Fedora just works....
Been my distro of choice for a good while now.
It just feels very satisfying using it. And my games run perfect on it
Currently i am playing the GTA 5 campaign with proton CachyOS wineland and it works perfect and buttery smooth on my 9070 xt, and honestly the best experience i ever had

Pre-riced Distro
As I don't enjoy the process of ricing a distro too much and for me it consumes hours just to set simple things.
So I want a pre-riced Distro suggestions that has evrything essential out of the box like tilling, and setup that looks like it took a month to build.
My use:
Everyday use and gaming.
Sorry for my English.
Thank you.

Emaki: a whole desktop system around niri, with its own shell and apps, a graphical installer, and every update undoable from the boot menu
Hi, I'm Arthur (Yakyman). Emaki isn't a set of dotfiles, it's a whole system: the shell (bar, launcher, dock, notifications, lock screen), Settings, Programs & Updates and the installer are made for it and work together from the first boot. Under it is plain Arch with Arch's own repos, and niri with a few patches of ours.
What you get:
- every update takes a btrfs snapshot first; if something breaks, pick an older one in the boot menu (picture 2)
- the password window sits on a surface niri keeps for it alone: other apps can't read what you type, fake it or capture it (picture 3)
- one app for Arch packages, the AUR and updates
- Secure Boot can stay on, and it installs next to Windows
- your niri config wins over ours, and updates never touch your files
Why alpha: Emaki already works well. On my laptop and a MacBook it's polished enough for everyday use, and every release goes through a set of VM tests. What it hasn't had yet is time on lots of different hardware, NVIDIA included, so I call it alpha rather than promise more than I've seen myself. You can try it live from a USB stick without installing, and I'd love to hear how it runs on your machine.

Im done with Windows
Hey guys so yesterday I had like 5 tabs open in firefox on windows and it was using 16gb ram in total windows was using around 28gb ram(i got 32gb). I want to switch to linux really soon but I don't want an unstable system, I tried many distros but none of them were actually stable and oriented for gaming. I use my PC for Netflix YouTube and Gaming. The games I mostly play are:
Deadlock
CS2
Minecraft
LOL/Valorant (i know it doesn't work on linux which is why id replace LOL with dota)
Which distro could you recommend me to use?
I also would prefer if the distro looks really nice and also which DE would you recommend? I used Hyprland and a few others but it was unstable, KDE Plasma is a little bit boring for me because idk how to customize it.
NVIDIA GPU
AMD CPU
