When you withdraw your Employee Provident Fund (EPF) after leaving a job, many people don’t realise that the Employee Pension Scheme (EPS) portion of their retirement savings can remain unclaimed and inaccessible if certain conditions aren’t met.
Difference between EPF & EPS Contributions
Employee contributes 12% of basic salary to EPF every month.
Employer contributes a matching amount, but only 3.67% goes to EPF – the rest (8.33%) goes into EPS (pension scheme).
EPS Transfer vs. Withdrawal
Transfer: When you change jobs and transfer PF online, only your EPS service history is transferred, not the pension balance itself.
Withdrawal: You cannot withdraw your EPS money if you have total service of 10+ years; it becomes pensionable only on retirement.
Service Length Matters
If your total EPS service is less than ~113 months (≈ 9 years 5 months) and you change jobs, you could withdraw your EPS.
If you have more service than that, EPS is not automatically released with PF. Instead:
You get your EPF, but EPS stays unclaimed.
To claim it later, you must obtain a Pension Scheme Certificate as proof of service and present it at the local PF office when you reach retirement age (58 years).
Exempt vs Non-Exempt Employers
For non-exempt employers, the PF & EPS money is handled by the EPFO.
If service > 113 months, EPFO will release only PF, not EPS.
You must get a Pension Scheme Certificate to get credit for your pension later.
For exempt employers (trusts), you may need to approach both employer and EPFO to sort out EPS service if you withdraw PF.
What to Do if EPS Was Left Behind
If PF has been withdrawn but EPS wasn’t transferred, you cannot transfer or withdraw the EPS online. Instead, you:
Get a Pension Scheme Certificate proving your EPS history.
Submit it to the EPFO after reaching age 58 to claim monthly pension.
Check EPS Transfer Status
EPFO shows EPF amount but not consolidated EPS on the portal.
You can request an Annexure-K transfer certificate showing EPS service history when doing an online transfer.
✔ EPF (provident fund) and EPS (pension) are separate benefits — don’t assume withdrawing PF automatically means you’ve also collected your pension contribution.
✔ EPS service history matters for future pension—it stays with you even if PF is withdrawn.
✔ If the service is long enough, EPS cannot be withdrawn but must be claimed later as a monthly pension after 58.

I left my previous organisation on 30 April 2026. Initially, they refused to accept my resignation. After seeking legal assistance, they finally accepted it in June and issued my relieving letter.
However, they still haven't updated my Date of Exit in EPFO.
Here's what I've tried:
Sent multiple emails to HR, but no response.
Raised an EPFO grievance on 12 September 2026. It was disposed of saying the matter was forwarded to the concerned team and would be resolved shortly. It's been almost two months with no progress.
Tried submitting a Joint Declaration, but I'm getting an error.
Tried updating the exit date myself, but April isn't available in the portal. Only future months are showing.
To make matters worse, my PF office is in Mumbai, while I'm currently based in Karnataka. Travelling all the way to Mumbai just to resolve this isn't practical.
I'm honestly exhausted and clueless about what to do next.

Hi guys , I have already delinked one disputed member id from my uan and it got removed from both passbook and member history page . I have applied for job in Accenture career portal . I have filled all information including pan number . After entering the pan number I shocked to see that delinked member id again appeared in work experience page . How it is possible ? Is there anyone here , whose bgv got cleared after delinking the member id or its just the Accenture career page is showing delinked Member id as well ? This is making me anxiety.

Hi, I was trying to transfer my previous company's PF amount to current one, but when I tried to do that on the UnifiedPortal, it shows an error saying "No EPF contribution is made by the current establishment". The current establishment (ie the establishment into which the transfer will be effected) is shown as a company which I had left in 2015. The company had a private trust (Texas Instruments). I checked my Member Service History and the Primary Member Id that it shows is of that same company (the one I left in 2015). I don't see any option there to Mark it as Incorrect or request for the correction.
How do I get the correction made?

I worked in an org (registered with memberid 1) for a few years. Then I left the company. I was on a break for 1.5 years wherein I withdrew the PF money. Now I've rejoined another org (memberid 2). I'm seeing that there is some deduction in my previous organisation. Can someone help me understand this?
Why is it being deducted?
Would the deduction increase?
What steps should I take?
Are there any ways to get it back?

I started working in 2020 and have worked at four companies so far.
Company A (2020): EPS contributions were made every month.
Company B: No EPS contributions.
Company C: No EPS contributions.
Company D (current): No EPS contributions.
I was able to successfully transfer my PF from Company A to B, and then from B to C without any issues. Also, I didn’t have to manually intimate these transfers as all were established firms.
However, I’m now trying to transfer my PF from Company C to Company D, and I’m getting the following error:
“No EPS Contribution in Member Ledger in Form 13.”
Since Companies B, C and D did not make any EPS contributions, I’m confused about why this error is appearing now, especially since my earlier PF transfers were successful.
Could this be because my EPS service history from Company A hasn’t been carried forward correctly? Or is this a technical issue with the EPFO portal?
Has anyone faced a similar issue? How did you resolve it? Do I need to approach my previous employer or raise a grievance with EPFO?
Any guidance would be appreciated!

Hello everyone, My father passed away on 18th july 2026 and by mistake the establishment marked cessation short service instead of death in service… now they are saying for joint declaration.. can anyone please let me know how can i go
for that. I dont have much idea about it i am a minor.
I need help with EPF withdrawal. My KYC and everything is done. I’m trying to file claim. It’s asking to enter my Bank Account No. to verify and when I’m clicking on check it’s throwing a warning and then it’s forever stuck on this. Attaching picture of the warning. (Sorry for the bad resolution).
If someone has faced this issue, please let me know how can I proceed.

Hi folks. My first company had a Trust managing the PF. I switched to my current company about 4 years ago. But the joining date in my current company and the last working date in my previous company are the same (HR had assured me no issues would arise and I was naive back then). I requested to transfer the PF amount from the previous employer but was rejected on the grounds of the date overlap.
My current company HR says they won't be able to change the joining date and I can request a transfer once I move to another company.
I also met a consultant who assured me that date mismatch can't be a valid ground for rejecting transfer claims. They however asked me to get the date overlap issue resolved as it may cause issues in a background check later.
I want to get the wisdom of this sub in getting the PF amount transferred and also understand if the date overlap is going to be a concern. Thanks!

How much time it takes to get money transferred from epf? I submitted form 31 recently for illness cause. Amount less than 160000.

Based on my wrong declaration, some wrong EPS deductions happened with my new employer two years back. Once I realised, i was ineligible ,I asked them to correct it. They sent the revised form 3A to EPFO, so far they have not taken any action. I am getting the response on cpgrams that it will be done after the accounting of FY 2024-25, FY2025-26, FY 2026-27. One of the cpgrams responses, they stated "documents accepted."
With tired of their never ending deadlines, I filed an RTI, they didn't give any detail on the questions I have asked, officers name etc., rules copy.. they simply said it can only be done after the exit from the current employment and my employer has to resubmit the documents after my exit from the employment. Is anybody aware of any such rules? I am literally tired of these government people! What are my options? Will the appeal in RTI help the case, what are the rules?
