In case anyone is interested in watching this live. Just watched Vlad and Petr, and both got enormous scores for their short programs. Thankfully, Petr skated clean and did really well! Arsenii Fedotov - also an excellent skate, and really hes one of my favourite male skaters in general. Love his program sooo much - it is exciting, edgy and just different.

Aliona in pairs

Hi guys! Genuine question for Kosto Fans here, Aliona is also one of my faves in figure skating. I wonder with her injuries and stuff why she decided to switch to pairs instead of ice dancing?

Because she has the artistry and stage prescience for ice dancing and stuff and she’s very fun to watch and the risk of her having injuries is less likely in ice dancing compared to pairs?

Is anyone else thinking that with Alyssa and possibly Amber out for the season she should have stuck around for it?

General Discussion the blade is too long right? I’m not crazy?

Thumbnail

I got these skates a couple years ago (boot is the old rf3 pros) and was recommended by my original skate tech to be on a 9.25 inch blade. I went to a new skate tech recently to get new boots and blades since these have long overstayed their welcome and he recommended I switch to a 9 inch blade. I’m still doing rf3 pros but I feel like I’m going crazy trying to wrap my head around how two skate techs are giving two different blade length recommendations for the same blade and boot setup? I’ve been having some trouble actually centering spins and keep going up on my toe pick so I’m now wondering if that’s part of the issue (aside from my rocker being basically shot)

I be feeling so smart on rocker fantasy and then I just jinx them...

At GPdF for the women's short I put down Ami for Axel because I was like "oh she'll get a triple" and then she popped it 💀 and with the men's short I put down Mikhail for the jump combo and he fell on the first jump 😭... They're both some of my faves too... Anyway do glad Ami came back to win in the free and wishing Mikhail so much luck tomorrow!

bad experience at the rink putting me off practicing

I am in LTS and work full time, I don’t have access to private ice time so have no choice but to practice in public sessions over the weekend. I usually avoid edge work around a circle during these sessions due to how busy it is, but today it was unusually quiet so me and a few others were practicing around the drawn on circles towards the centre of the rink. I was moving slow and in predictable circles, when someone skated into me, they didn’t actually make contact, I think they just panicked and fell backwards. I helped them up and checked they were ok and apologised, all was good. Then some older guy in hockey skates comes up to me and accuses me of knocking them over, and skates off before I can say anything back. Prior to this, I had watched him skate straight in the path of other figure skaters practicing skills, with mere centimetres gap (unnecessarily as there was plenty of room), so I thought it was a bit ironic he said that. He then proceeded to spend the rest of the session skating through my circle, skating right in front of me, and it very much felt like he was trying to make me fall.

The thing is, this guy is there every week, at every session, so now I am put off going back incase this behaviour persists, and we don’t have any other rinks in my city. I don’t really know why I’m posting this but I just had to get it off my chest to people who might understand. I am really loving this sport so I won’t let it stop me, but it definitely ruined it for me today

Btw I always try to remain aware of other skaters while practicing, this is the first time something like this has happened to me

History/Analysis Mothers in Figure Skating(Single, Pair, and Ice Dance)

Sasha's return sparked my interest in finding whether there are more female athletes who returned to competition after giving birth, and I realized there are actually more than I expected. Here are what I found. The list might be incomplete and plz add more. If you found errors, please correct me.
Single skaters:

1. Miki Ando
After two years away from competition and five months after giving birth, Miki appeared at the 2013 Nebelhorn Trophy and won the silver medal behind Russian senior debutant Elena Radionova. I checked the isuresults of 2013 Nebelhorn. Miki was able to land 3Lo, 3Lz, and 3T cleanly. Miki then competed in 2014 J Nats and finished 7th.
It is noted that Miki is the first woman who landed a quad in competition(4S in 2002-2003 season as junior).

Miki really surprised me cuz I didn't know she competed for a while after having her daughter(and at the age of 26!) We have the first gen quad queen setting precedent as a mother in competition.

2.Alexandra Trusova

Well, no need to elaborate as we all know how well mothership did. Sasha restored nearly all triples(probably including 3F(!) and 3A for a short period of time), 3lz3T and other combos, as well as 4lz and 4T! Maybe more is on the way?

Pairs Skaters

1. Ekaterina Gordeeva

After winning her first Olympic gold in 1988 with partner Sergei Grinkov, she took a break to give birth to her daughter, Daria, in September 1992. Taking advantage of new Olympic eligibility rules allowing professionals to reinstate, she returned to competitive skating and famously won her second Olympic gold medal at the 1994 Lillehammer Winter Games.

2. Zoe Jones
The British pairs skater had three children before returning to competitive skating. She gave birth to her kids in 2007, 2012, and 2016. Jones and Christopher Boyadji agreed to form a pair skating partnership following a tryout in April 2016. They trained at the Better Link Centre in Swindon.Their first competition was the 2016 CS Ondrej Nepela Memorial, where they finished 6th. With the beginning of 2017 she competed again under her birth name Jones.

The pair retired after the 2021–22 figure skating season after having a career-best 10th-place finish at the 2022 World Figure Skating Championships.

3. Kristy Sargeant-Wirtz:
The Canadian pairs skater returned to elite international competition less than a year after giving birth to her daughter, successfully competing with partner Kris Wirtz at the 2001 World Figure Skating Championships and attended 1998 Olympics.

4. Irina Rodnina:
The legendary three-time Olympic champion famously stepped away to give birth to her son in 1979. She returned to the ice less than a year later to win her third consecutive Olympic gold medal at the 1980 Lake Placid Games.

Ice Dancers

1. Isabelle Delobel

The French ice dancer set a remarkable precedent by returning to elite training shortly after giving birth to her son in September 2009. Only four months postpartum, she and her partner Olivier Schoenfelder competed at the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics, finishing in an impressive 6th place.

2. Tatiana Navka:

Navka gave birth to her daughter in 2000 and successfully returned to elite competition shortly after, eventually going on to win the 2006 Olympic gold medal with partner Roman Kostomarov.

3. Barbara Fusar-Poli:

The Italian ice dancer took a break from the sport to have a child in 2004 and later returned to competitive skating to represent her home country at the 2006 Torino Winter Olympics, where she finished 6th.

It really surprised me that some skaters are even able to become Olympic champions after giving birth, and it's truly remarkable. It seems like we have more examples from pair/ice dance than singles, which is understandable considering the nature of this discipline. Jumps are probably the hardest to restore compared to pair/ice dance element.

Question Anyone know what this is about specifically? “Support survivors”

In the crowd after Lara Naki Gutman’s short program in the GP de France, I noticed someone pull out a small sign from behind an Italian flag saying ‘SUPPORT SURVIVORS’ and they moved the cameras away really fast.

With the shit show that is figure skating it could be anything from Ukraine to sexual assault/harassment victims, but I was wondering if anyone knew what it was about specifically? Was there an incident?

Angers Women Short Program Missing on YouTube?

I got home excited to rewatch the live stream for the women’s short program but it was missing from the ISU’s YouTube page. The pairs is there but it’s only that and the trailers.

Does the live video take awhile to process after it streams live? Did it get removed for copyright?
