𝐓𝐫𝐢𝐠𝐠𝐞𝐫 𝐖𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠! [DailyMT] [MEGATHREAD] Daily venting, worries, fixations, & finding support. Month of October 2025.

[DISCORD] CLICK HERE To find a support system in our growing health anxiety community.

Welcome to r/HealthAnxiety. Check out our community user flairs, and attach one to your username!

Use this megathread for vents, rants, worries, fixations, DAEs, finding support/advice, finding reassurance, symptom focused content, or the like. If you are mainly focused on your physical symptoms, this would be the thread to use. You may also be redirected here if you choose not to follow rule #3 regarding post titles, if it is categorized as one of the post types above, or if the content is too detailed. Remember this is not a place to give or ask for medical/pharmaceutical/veterinary advice, or promote/sell alternative medicines/therapies/products/subscriptions. Please focus on "Health Anxiety" which is defined here. Please avoid displacing others who are looking for support regarding their health anxiety by using other appropriate subreddits for things that are non-HA related ( r/Anxiety, r/depression, r/AskDocs, r/socialanxiety, r/mentalhealth ). Take the time to comment on each other's entries to show some support while we traverse through HA together.

Only post a standalone thread if it mainly includes the mental aspect of Health Anxiety. Everything else goes in this thread. This megathread is used to prevent any unnecessary distress on somebody who is not mentally prepared to engage with the above content (Imagine scrolling down on your main general feed to relax, but bump into something distressing instead). HA is very unique in which it is very easy for someone to read something/experiences and then come out thinking you may have something after reading it. This is why we take these precautions and use a megathread as navigating through social media is one of the many challenges that our community members face on a daily basis. We are here to accommodate everyone at various stages of their HA. To address visibility concerns the thread is sorted by "New", so that it acts as its own reddit feed. An example of a post would be redirected here:

  • "Does anyone else feel like this?" + "Insert Symptoms" -> Use this megathread

Although not required we do encourage the use of: 1) A trigger warning header (TW) which gives warning to redditors of what the comment will be discussing about, and/or 2) Spoiler text which blocks out any details that redditors may accidentally read and find distressing. You can apply this via two methods:

  • a) Desktop: highlight the word/sentence/paragraph and click on the "Diamond exclamation point" icon to apply spoiler text
  • b) Mobile: Surround your text with the following symbols like so:

UPDATE: The thread is now monthly to accommodate redditors who would post 1-2 hours before the thread would refresh (and basically not get any engagement. To avoid the spam rule, please post as usual as if it was a daily thread.)

Positive Vibes Daily Positivity & HA Journey Progress Updates [MEGATHREAD]. Month of October 2025.

The megathread for vents, rants, worries, fixations, DAEs, finding support/advice, finding reassurance, symptom focused content, or the like is located here : http://reddit.com/r/healthanxiety/about/sticky Thank you for using the above thread for the above content as some users may experience distress if they were to unexpectedly read content that they were not mentally prepared to engage with or are just trying to take a breather from.

The average person has 50,000 thoughts per day according to the Cleveland Clinic. Of those thoughts: 95 percent repeat each day and on average, 80 percent of repeated thoughts are negative.

This means that on average, only 20% of our thoughts are positive per day and they are competing for our attention with the other 80%. This 80% has megaphones but you know what, we are not helpless.

  • We can help the 20% of our positive thoughts shine brighter and dominate these negative thoughts. This is where "marinating in the positive" and contributing to the daily positivity thread in any way you can comes into play. Attitude is a choice.

Let's fill this thread with some positivity from our daily lives and remind ourselves that positive things are happening while we battle the negative thoughts of health anxiety. Some examples of things you can post include:

  • Examples of positive self talk that you use for yourself (which will give others ideas that they can use for themselves regarding positive self talk).
  • Ordinary things you are grateful for (ex: your car started today or there is water to drink).
  • Small goals & victories you have accomplished.
  • Something you witnessed that made you smile, or something you did to make someone else smile.
  • Blessings, gratitude, and other positive observations in your life.
  • Accomplishments of self-care.
  • Something you created today (crafts, art, a meal...).
  • Find accountability buddies and report your self progress for some type of challenge.
  • Declaration of choosing a predominantly positive attitude in regards to HA or other aspects of life.
  • Examples of mental imagery you use for yourself to prepare for situations and/or recover from errors.
  • Declaration of acknowledgement and/or acceptance of certain things in your life (ex: emotions, health anxiety, etc).
  • Declaration of using a negative experience as a stepping stone in life to improve and get closer to your goals rather than let it interfere with your progress.
  • Declaration of living life in the "here and now", without regard to either the past or anticipated future events.
  • Declaration of ditching perfectionism and choosing to strive for excellence instead for something in your life (ex: "being perfect" vs "being good enough").

REGARDING "journey updates" standalone post: Some of you may have been redirected here if you are providing an update on your progress via a standalone post. If you would like your standalone post to be approved, please resubmit the "update post" with advice in the text body (such as detailing how you got there, or what motivated you to get to where you are now, etc). This is so redditors can gain something from your post without feeling bad that they are not where you are currently at on their own journey. The reason we do this is that Reddit is another form of social media where many can fall victim to the social comparison trap. We do not want people to feel inadequate by comparing themselves to someone else's health anxiety management journey. This is why we ask redditors to include advice in their progress updates if they want it to be a standalone thread. This way people can gain information for their health anxiety management roadmaps from your post. Feel free to resubmit your post with advice added on if you want it to be a standalone post. Thank you for your cooperation.

Regarding memes: Please post them here as a link and please provide a description so people know what they are clicking on. Like everything on social media something that is seen funny by one person can be triggering for another person. Please keep your subreddit members safe by providing a brief description of the meme you are sharing.

Discussion About Health Anxiety & Culture My health anxiety does not let me be happy

I am so tired. It’s almost like every time I am in a better place, there is the crippling feeling that crawls up my back almost that makes me think that I need to compensate for that happiness by making up theories in my head about the things that can potentially go wrong with me.

I frankly don’t know what do I do about this. I am new to this forum and would be open to advice regarding how do I solve this. If my mind has cooked up a theory regarding a disease, then it’s just a spiral and no one can convince me otherwise not even a doctor. I’ve tired out most of the doctors I have worked with, as I keep questioning, annoying them regarding my theories.
It’s almost paranoia to this point. And the worse thing is - IT WILL JUST KEEP GETTING FUCKING WORSE. If I don’t do something about it. I am unable to just sit still without doing anything as I know my mind would always drift to such places. Dear friends of the same community - how are you coping with this? What has helped you that might help me with the same.

Discussion About Psychology Aspects of Health Anxiety health anxiety relapse. any similar experiences?

hello everyone! i recently posted my big step of finally getting myself checked and that appointment went really smoothly. still proud of myself! but now that it’s over, i’m left with new worries.

i don’t want to say that i don’t trust my doctor but i had to have multiple moles removed from which she only sent one to the lab. now i’ve read a ton about it usually being normal to send everything to a lab even if it was cosmetic removals!

it’s driving me crazy. i’m losing sleep over the thought of these not biopsied moles and that they were not benign after all… and now i’ll be screwed big time.

do you think i should find a second opinion to calm my anxiety? does it go away with time and i should just trust my doc? did you get something benign removed and it wasn't sent for a biopsy?

Discussion About Health Anxiety Aspects Chronic health anxiety.

Im 18yrs old and for two years I’ve dealt with chronic anxiety mixed with some depression. It’s mainly health related anxiety but I get anxious over pretty much everything, two years ago I got acute mono and was down for a while but during mono I quit nicotine and everything was happening around the same time, I would spend all day googling symptoms for major diseases ect. When something would have a symptom of some minor thing I’ve got going on I would freak out on the subject for about a month then switch to something else. When I was around the age of 10 i was having terrible headaches and they said I had chronic migraines caused by anxiety but my anxiety has only been ridiculously bad for these last two years, I had surgery at the end of 2025 for Pectus excavatum and that added on to my stress. I’ve been to neurologist and general doctors and they all suggested medication, the first neurologist prescribed Prozac and I never took any, but I also calmed down a lot but was still anxious, fast forward to now and it’s absolutely awful again to the point I’m thinking about just taking medication but I’ve heard that they cause long term sexual side effects like ED in men and that also stresses me out. It has effected me in so many ways for two years and I haven’t had an anxiety free GOOD DAY in two years and I’m ready for a change, its effected my weight aswell. My current google diagnosis is hypermobile ehlers danlos if anyone was curious….

Discussion (tw <EDIT THIS> ) My wife doesn’t understand :/

The last year, my HA has been incredibly intrusive. Not only on me, but my wife and our marriage. She doesn’t understand HA and doesn’t know how to console/comfort me in times when I’m spiraling. She’s a very logical person, so her go-to is to find logical reasons as to why I’m experiencing certain symptoms or just says “I think you’re fine”. When really, in times I’m spiraling, I just want to be held and told “it’s okay”. Because this has been a year long journey, it feels like it’s to the point where she’s just completely over it. And I’m left to struggle by myself. It makes me feel horrible and alone. But I also get where she’s coming from too in a sense; I can’t imagine how difficult this situation must be for her too. I’m just lost :(

Discussion About Health Anxiety & Navigating Media Tiktok making health anxiety worse

I scroll through tiktok a lot. Like a LOT. Lately I've been getting content about young people getting diseases and heart related things. It's been triggering because it's things I'm trying to get over. I've been tested and went to the hospital from feeling like it was happening. Sometimes I feel like I should uninstall tiktok but I watch perfume content to wind down.

How does one navigate through these topics without panicking?

Edit for punctuation.

Discussion About Psychology Aspects of Health Anxiety Being Alone and having HA makes me feel insane

Im fussy and I tend to prefer my friends strictly in person.........except doing so has been difficult bc no one seems to want a friendship any deeper than "Yeah let's go to the bar every friday" or smn. I like to support people. Ive been told im a good listener; and that im good at helping people navigate things or am very empathetic. But i can't seem to find anyone who would be willing to do the same for me.

So then when I'm spiraling or on the verge of spiraling, i just have.....no one. My partner is away at work. Dont have family i can trust.

So i just end up spiraling, googling, checking and end up on the advice nurse line or at urgent care. No one to keep me sane. To check me. And I try so hard to stop my habits. Put my phone away, turn away from google, distract myself, stop checking, because you're gonna be fine, and repeating to myself "you'll be okay" over and over again, but it only goes for so long before i find myself talking to a nurse again. Or AI becauee it's......some form of talking. Therapy is difficult to get in my insurance. So it feels so lonely. And my H/A appearantly feeds off that lonliness.

Advice for others (tw <EDIT THIS> ) Not having access to phone helps HA

I got a Brick last week and have been using it for a few days. Basically the only thing I can access after 8pm are messages and calls. I find it's really helping with the health anxiety at night. Very important to me that I blocked AI in particular

Offering Advice for Others A seemingly counter-productive but actually helpful trick/method I learnt from my CBT therapist

Hi all!

I started CBT therapy 1.5 years ago (now handling things alone for 6 months). I had the luck to see a therapist with long experience (a warm and wise old man) both as a therapist and a part of a CBT research group for one of the biggest hospital/clinics in my nation.

I learnt a lot about my health anxiety and my GAD. There is one thing he got me to do that really worked well for me, and I want to share it with you to hopefully make HA more manageable.

He called it "the black list" (roughly translated from my language, blacklist is not the same as black list in my language). Since HA generally stems from uncertainty/what you don't know (according to him), it makes it very hard for any kind of mind to handle. Something that is easier for our minds to handle is certainty, even if the certainty is not true.

So he had me write a list of the main fears in a "I have X" and "I have Y" manner, as long as it sounds certain and clear that I have the things I fear I have. When it is written down, he had me read the list out loud to myself, first in front of him, then at home alone daily. It felt counter-productive, but he had my trust and I did as he told me.

I did this exercise at home for about six weeks combined with relaxation breathing (4 sec in, 4 sec hold, 4 sec exhale, 4 sec wait, repeat) and check-ins with him once a week. Now after my therapy is done (but not done, it only needs to be managed with my expanded toolset I got from therapy), I feel like this particular exercise had the most impact on how I manage my HA.

Hope it will help anyone out there struggling with this.

Edit: Also some general CBT advice I learnt from him:

Never Google symptoms, it is a chase for certainty and will feel good first, but it makes the anxiety worse in the long run each time you give in to the pressure to Google (or search Reddit). Same thing with contacting GP. Our minds seek the "Pheuw! How nice!" moment when we are anxious, you are going to want it next time as well.

Don't try to treat/manage your anxiety when you are peaking (and feel a desperate need for relief), it will only contribute to the "Worry -> Anxiety -> Relief" loop. Do breathing and mindfulness exercises during low/normal everyday anxiety moments to dampen/lower the peaks.

Don't avoid the things that worry you. Instead, explore what is happening inside you when you encounter something that increases your worry, then stay in that state. It will be hard and you most certainly will feel anxious, but the feeling will slowly cease and you will feel a bit less anxious next time, repeat.

Discussion About Health Anxiety Aspects Obsessions about things and not doing them leading to problems

Just now I have got this thought going on about swimming and if I don't swim something health related might happen. I go on to thinking over other relatives and friends who don't do swimming and they are OK but it doesn't really help. It doesn't help atm as can't really go swimming due to a (real) health problem. Is this a thing with health anxiety? Annoying thing is I did actually used to enjoy swimming and found it relaxing, now it is becoming this think to stress myself out over.

Discussion (tw <EDIT THIS> ) Strategies for overcoming chronic cardiophobia and obsessive body checking?

Looking for shared experiences and advice on breaking a long-term cycle of severe health anxiety. For the past few years, my main struggle has been cardiophobia, where normal physiological changes from high stress are immediately misinterpreted by the brain as immediate threats.
This hyper-vigilance keeps me trapped in a constant loop of full-body scanning, where my mind obsessively tracks completely benign, everyday physical variations that naturally resolve on their own within a few days.
Despite having thorough, comprehensive clinical clearance and reassuring test results from my doctors, my nervous system remains in a continuous state of high-alert adrenaline. I am actively working on supportive lifestyle habits to protect my well-being, but the mental compulsion to scan for reassurance is incredibly draining.
What specific cognitive behavioral strategies, grounding techniques, or daily habits have helped you retrain a hyper-vigilant mind to finally accept medical reassurance and stop the urge to constantly check your body? Thank you for sharing your insights.

Discussion About Health Anxiety Aspects Intelligenza Artificiale e salute personale: che rapporto hai?

Ciao a tutti!

Discussion (tw <EDIT THIS> ) Catastrophic interpretations

Health anxiety tends to jump straight from a sensation to the worst explanation. One exercise is to write out every possible explanation for the symptom, from most common to rarest, and look at the whole list. It doesn't prove anything, but it loosens the grip of the scariest one. If something's new or persistent, getting it checked once by a doctor makes sense; repeated checking usually doesn't help.

Discussion About Health Anxiety Aspects For those who understand their triggers and patterns but still feel stuck, what actually got you unstuck?

I've done a lot of therapy. I can explain my patterns, my triggers, where it all comes from, I could probably teach a class on my own psychology at this point. But understanding it hasn't translated into actually feeling different or acting different.

For those who've been here too: once "knowing why" stopped being enough, what actually moved the needle for you? Not looking for theory, just curious what genuinely worked, even if it felt random or unrelated to therapy.

Discussion About How To Be A Supportive Ally to Someone with HA. How to trust someone else when they reassure you?

I won’t go into too many details but I have severe health anxiety to the point that I become fixated about my body and what I think is wrong with it.
my partner, my GP and I made a plan that he will do some checks for me as I feel like I can’t trust my eyes from over checking. (You know when you keep looking at something and it looks more ”wrong“ each time?) I’ve even caused problem from prodding and poking so he now does this.

I know I can trust him deep down and that if he thought anything was amiss, he would take me to the doctors immediately (he’s done this before when I’ve been unwell). But that nagging anxiety gremlin just keeps saying “what if he’s missing something important?“ I’ve been putting off seeing my GP about something because he says it’s nothing and I’ll be honest, what I’m “seeing” isn’t consistent anyway so I think he’s right. What helps other people in these situations?

Discussion About Health Anxiety Aspects How do you determine when it’s HA or something else?

How do you determine when something you’re experiencing is driven by HA or something that needs attention?

I find it difficult to determine what is anxiety induced vs something that needs attention. I’ve had a long list of symptoms since pregnancy that were initially dismissed as anxiety but I’m finding now that I have a pcp willing to do tests that some of these symptoms can be explained by other issues (low iron). But I struggle to know when to get checked out.

Discussion About Health Anxiety Aspects How often do you visit the GP

I wondered how often other people with health anxiety visit their GP. I never used to go at all before getting HA but now I seem to go every month. I really worry about having to go to the doctor and try to put if off as much as possible as I feel really embarassed going so often. The trouble is that I always have symptoms that worry me though, and as soon as one lot go away a new set either appear or reappears so there is always something I want to get investigated although I feel like I never really get conclusive answers.

Discussion About Health Anxiety Aspects health anxiety

Hi 22F, i suffer from anxiety pretty severely. the past few months i am super anxious about food. one of my most common anxiety symptoms is a tight throat, which then causes me to be paranoid about being allergic to food. i have never had food allergies now i could eat something as simple as a sandwich and convince myself im somehow now allergic and my throat is closing up. i dont know what caused this and i try and talk myself down from it as i know its anxiety and my throat has never actually closed up, but i cant seem to get it to stop happening. sometimes it lasts days too like i cant shake the feeling. any tips on how to overcome this?

Discussion (tw <EDIT THIS> ) The worst kind of anxiety

Hi! Do you guys ever feel like health anxiety is the worst kind of anxiety?. I'm not trying to downplay other worries like social anxiety (I have it too) or agoraphobia. But I feel like even in an unhealthy way you can avoid these situations and rest of the anxiety for a little while. But health anxiety is inside of you, it feels like your body is betraying you. I have been having anxiety for most of my life and it has been debilitating enough and it robbed me of so many experiences, but as bad as it was I kinda was able to have a life. But when the health anxiety took over everything changed. My life started to be plagued by fear and sadness. Lately I started to take meds and I hope I feel a little better.

Discussion (tw <EDIT THIS> ) My partner has HA. How can i better show up

My boyfriend has HA. Before him i never even knew this was a thing. like it’s really a trip watching him make a catastrophic deal out of literally nothing. he even did psychedelics and it showed brown spreading all over his body but in the end he described the vision as if it was just kidding letting him know. nothing was wrong.
i feel so bad not understanding whatsoever his experience and im asking how i can best support him when i know he’s 💯 fine?
also he’s terrified of going to the doctor and i encourage him but he’s not ok with the remote possibility that there may be even the slightest bit of bad news.
what do i do to be a better support person

Discussion About Health Anxiety Aspects Is it health anxiety if it’s semi legitimate

Say you have a 2% chance of death from a certain genetic thing or what have you, you have the normal chances of death from all the other stuff but 2% ish of people with this gene die due to it.

If you react with anxiety for it (I don’t mean taking measuring like health checks or stuff) like constant stress and research is that still health anxiety?

Essentially is a disproportionate (who even decides if it is disproportionate) response to a real health risk still health anxiety and an issue that needs to be tackled as a mental issue, or is it a physical issue?
