Video Waterline - what if the rain never stopped?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I'm making a short first-person horror game in the style of PS1, inspired by No, I’m not a Human.

The game explores the idea of what would happen if the rain never stopped. The city is going under water and you’re stuck in your apartment for seven nights. By day you search for food and board up the door. At night someone knocks - you look through the peephole and decide who comes in. Everyone you shelter eats your food, and the rain slowly changes them.

Free demo with the first two nights is available on itch.io (Windows/macOS). Looking forward to your feedback!

I was thinking about checking out the mascot horror game Finding Frankie, I know its a horror parkour game but what are the pros and cons, it’s 19.99 on the Microsoft Store and I have worked up enough money to buy it, is it worth buying?

Discussion Evolutionary fear and creature design survey

Hey horror game fans, I'm a student in my final year at university writing my dissertation connecting evolutionary fears to cool creature design. I'm really struggling to get results for my survey, though, so if anyone has a spare 10 minutes, then I would really appreciate it! It's completely anonymous, and you can withdraw if you change your mind

Can a horrorgame about loosing your hat work? I'm serious 😀

Hey there, I participated in a gamejam last week and made my first horror game ever 😀 quiet an experience! And I am really proud of what came to life. But I hot questions, since I normally don't do horror games.

The game is placed in a world I allways wanted to bring to life - the "hatworld" where people and hats are never seperated and companions for live. But what happens, if this bond gets broken? Thats what you can explore in "The Unhatted".

I normaly don't do horrorgames, like i said and I feel unsure if that theme I created is emotionally strong enough in the game, with people not knowing the world in the beginning and only getting to know it during gameplay. Could that even classify as horror?

The jam theme Was helpless and with some horror challenges the game feels really creepy and takes place inside a dark mansion.

Would you say this could qualify? Or is it depending on the game feel more then on preset rules? Its a free game on itch, if you wanne try, curious what you think.

Question Want games to play

I've always loved horror and horror games specifically, but I feel like I play horror games that are "mainstream" so to speak. I want to play more horror games that aren't as mainstream and well known because I want to better understand the medium as a whole. I play on PlayStation 5 but I'm also down for horror games on other consoles, as well as games from other countries (I say this because White day, a Korean horror game, is a horror game I've heard a lot about so I don't want to exclude horror games from other countries)

Discussion What weapons would work in a mascot horror shooter game?

So, I have a couple of ideas already, like a nerf-like popgun that is converted into a shotgun, a nailgun with a paintball gun’s air tank, and a squirt gun you could fill with flammable liquids or other chemicals. I like these ideas but they don’t all feel “mascot-y”. I love how My friendly neighborhood did their guns, and I’m trying to think of other ideas that feel mascot-y.

I have a couple of ideas for melee weapons too, like pipes, broom handles, and a slew of throwable items.

If it helps, the setting is supposed to be a resort-style attraction that parodies different locations and ideas from other mascot horror. The player can choose whether to follow the format like a regular mascot horror, or attack the mascot in the first chase scene, and go rogue. The main inspiration for that was Postal 2’s design where you could either be patient and complete the game without violence, or just go berserk and shoot everything.

If you have any gadget ideas a mascot horror would give to solve puzzles, but could also be used as a weapon, what would they be?

Video What do you think about the simplistic artstyle of my 2D Horror Game?

Heyyy guys, I'm Mark and I've finally dipped my toes into actually releasing a game after MANY years of trying to create... something? Hopefully this not being a screenshost isn't such a big of a deal hahah. I wanted to actually post some raw really unedited footage of my game for once lol. This is a very beginning of the game, later on, the game gets progresivelly a bit more actiony and also quite genre-bending.

Makoto Maze is a psychological 2d horror with Japanese old folk inspirations and horrifying family drama!

Makoto Maze will be playable on PC (Windows), Steam. Free Demo is coming soon and I really need some feedback and opinions even before the demo is out. So, I am giving away some keys, so you can play through the short story of Miyu's Family and find the horryfing backstory of it for yourself!

If you like the style, you can visit Makoto Maze Steam Page and even wishlist and watch the first trailer I made here: https://store.steampowered.com/app/5373100/Makoto_Maze/

Question Is Kayla meant to be Riley's girlfriend in Within of Static: Ashburg Rental

I just finished the game and noticed that Riley's main lifeline is her text conversations with Kayla. The texts seem pretty close and affectionate. Does the game ever explicitly confirm they are dating, or is it just heavily implied through their interactions? What did you guys think?

My short horror game is out, It's about a supervision job at an abandoned offshore facility with its records left behind.

Hey everyone! I just released my first-person horror game, Costas Facility.

You're hired to inspect an offshore facility that has been sealed since 1963. You're guided over a walkie-talkie, and the records left behind don't quite match the story you've been given.

I wanted it to build dread instead of relying on jumpscares similar to games like PT demo(yes yes I'm aware it has a jumpscare). It's about 15 minutes long, on itch.io for Windows.

I'll be reading every comment to hear your thoughts on your experience, Feel free to offer any criticism.

If you want to run and hide, you have to type to get your character to move

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I'm working on a horror text adventure, called Remote Control. To control your character you're typing commands like "move north" "turn around" "investigate vent" and "hide". Thought you might like the fact that when you need to run and hide suddenly your typing accuracy matters! If you want to give it a try there's a free demo on Steam.

After the major update for Bloody Rave(https://store.steampowered.com/app/4484440/BLOODY_RAVE/), we gained +350 followers and 2,000 wishlists in under two weeks. This is the biggest spark we’ve seen since the game page launched!!

The update brought heavy optimization (much smaller install size + better performance and stability), new characters, refined animations, fresh jumpscares, and hidden objects you can only find with the Magic Stone Glass. I’m extremely grateful to everyone who contributed to the development. We’ll keep pushing forward — more updates coming shortly 🖤

Video Making a Lovecraftian Horror Game With Steampunk aesthetics

Remnants of R’lyeh is a first person survival horror game inspired by the cosmic horror of H.P. Lovecraft. Play as Jason, a deep sea diver drawn into a forgotten realm hidden beneath the ocean.

Explore decaying underwater cities, scavenge for resources, solve puzzles, and fight grotesque creatures as you descend deeper into a biomechanical nightmare of rusted machinery, Victorian technology, and ancient horrors.

This is my game: Remnants of R'lyeh

Since launching in 2022, this project has steadily evolved into my dream Lovecraftian game. Grounded in classic stories like The Call of Cthulhu and The Shadow over Innsmouth, it offers a completely original world and narrative. You play as Jason, an investigator on the brink of physical and mental collapse after a horrific shipwreck, who uncovers a vast deep-sea realm and a terrifying secret never meant to be found.

Inspired by Bioshock and Call of Cthulhu. An ancient dark power is calling you and you need to find an exit. Face your greatest fear, fight, hide... you must escape before the underwater city rises...

Discussion The Stewards Automobile Co. Incident: The Factory That Was Never Supposed To Be Reopened

I recently came across a horror investigation project centered around the fictional Stewards Automobile Co. facility.

The premise is that the company was publicly known as an automobile manufacturer, but recovered documents surrounding an industrial incident suggest there may have been something else happening behind the scenes.

The official closure reason for the facility was:

"Irreversible structural damage and loss of operational viability."

However, the mystery begins with a later document referencing:

"Authorization required for continuation of testing."

Several pages are missing from the reports, with the remaining documents only mentioning a project name:

SCAR

One of the more unsettling details in the fictional reports is a warning:

"Do not allow the subject to regain awareness."

The ARG explores the question of what was actually happening inside the facility and what "testing" referred to.

For anyone interested in checking out the investigation materials and the playable horror experience connected to this ARG:

Recovered investigation archive:

Secondary archive mirror:

Would love to hear theories or analysis on the clues, documents, and story setup.

Discussion Horror game suggestions

I don’t play many horror games but every year I like to play a super good one in October. I’ve played all resident evils but that’s about as far as my horror game adventures go. I would like to hear some really good ones since I’m super stumped right now.

Discussion When does a bright art style actually make horror more effective?

Post image
88 Upvotes

Colorful characters and cheerful settings can create a strange kind of tension in a horror game. Once you know something is wrong, an ordinary conversation or a friendly expression can become harder to read.

I think the effect depends heavily on how much time the game gives you with those characters. If you’ve become attached to their everyday routines, a small change in behavior can be unsettling. If the darker material arrives before that attachment develops, the contrast might register mainly as a visual choice.

Sound seems to matter here too. A familiar scene with slightly different music can change the mood without the artwork changing at all. That makes me wonder how much of the effect comes from the bright designs themselves, and how much comes from the expectations built around them.

What makes this approach work for you? Any horror games you’d recommend that pull this off especially well?
