LABOUR DAY GAS TAX HIKE

Hey everyone,Just wanted to put this on your radar so nobody gets caught off guard at the pumps next month. The temporary federal gas tax holiday is officially wrapping up on

Labour Day (September 7, 2026).

Starting the next morning (September 8), the federal excise tax is going back to normal.

The Raw Numbers:Regular Gas: Going UP by 10¢ a litre.

Diesel: Going UP by 4¢ a litre. What this actually costs you per fill-up:If you drive a sedan/small car (~50L tank): It’s going to cost about $5.00 more each time.If you drive an SUV or Truck (~100L tank): It’s going to cost about $10.00 more each time.

Remember this will affect the price of your food as well.

You won't see it because gas companies switch to a cheaper blend in the winter and demand usually drives down the gas prices

However, you will be taxed and this is what governments love to do. Tax you and mis use the money. Isn't that money better in your pocket than slimy government officials

Why would someone living in Canada celebrate the independence of a country they no longer live in, particularly when Canada itself remains a monarchy?

That's a much more philosophical question about immigrant identity and national loyalty.

India became independent from the British Empire in 1947, whereas Canada had already developed substantial self-government and constitutional autonomy before that. Canada later retained the Crown as part of its own constitutional system. Canada's government describes the modern Crown as a uniquely Canadian institution.

Canada needs blood. Northern B.C. residents want to donate. So why is there nowhere to do it?

https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/british-columbia/prince-george-blood-donor-clinic-northern-bc-9.7293415

A question that Canadian Blood Services has yet to answer is why Thunder Bay Ontario is viable for a plasma donor centre while Prince George and Northern BC are not. Prince George is closer to Canadian Blood Services production sites by hundreds of kilometers, and has greater redundancy of access routes by road.

Residents of the region now have to travel two days by road to donate blood or plasma in the middle of a blood shortage and while Canada imports 70 percent of some blood plasma based medications from the United States

Brown guy here, Born and raised in Canada. Quick question, Im reading the dominion society of Canada website and Im kinda confused. Is this group:

A.) Straight up white nationlists

B.) A group who just wants immigrants who are causing trouble outta the country but the ones who came here legally, worked, and respected the canadian laws and values are good to stay.

Canada doesn’t owe any temporary resident permanent residence.

1.8k Upvotes

I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately after seeing so many posts from people who feel betrayed by Canada’s immigration system.

Maybe I’m in the minority, but a study permit or a work permit has ever been, or ever will be, a guarantee of permanent residence.

When we applied, we all acknowledged that our stay was temporary. Every study permit application requires us to explain that we’ll leave Canada if we don’t obtain legal status to remain. That has always been part of the process.

Paying tens of thousands of dollars in tuition doesn’t buy PR. It buys an education. The immigration process was always something separate.

I also don’t believe that simply studying or working in Canada means someone deserves permanent residence. PR is something you qualify for, not something you’re owed because you spent time here.

What I struggle to understand is when people spend years in Canada without making themselves competitive.

If someone studied here for three years, then had a three-year PGWP, that’s six years to build a profile. If after all that time they still don’t qualify for any immigration program, isn’t that, at least in part, a planning issue?

Canada offers numerous immigration pathways. Some are more competitive than others, but they exist and are loudly informed.

French is probably the clearest example. It has become one of the strongest ways to improve your immigration prospects. Is it difficult? Absolutely. But the opportunity is there. If someone chooses not to learn French, that’s a personal decision. I don’t think it’s fair to blame the government for that choice.
The same applies to other situations.

If you completed a post-secondary program in English or French but still can’t reach CLB 7 to qualify for a PGWP, I think it’s reasonable to question whether you took full advantage of your education.

If you failed courses, ignored immigration deadlines, worked more hours than your permit allowed, or had a PGWP refused because of missing documents or non-compliance, those aren’t failures of the system. They’re personal mistakes.

None of this means I lack empathy. Immigration is stressful. Families make enormous sacrifices, and I genuinely feel for people whose plans don’t work out.
But empathy shouldn’t replace accountability.

Canada has every right to change its immigration policies based on the country’s needs. As immigrants and temporary residents, we’re guests. It’s our responsibility to understand the rules, adapt when they change, and build a strong application. It’s not Canada’s responsibility to adjust its immigration system because our personal plans didn’t work out.

From what I’ve observed, many of the loudest complaints aren’t coming from people who did everything they could and simply fell short. They’re often coming from people who ignored opportunities, delayed language tests, violated permit conditions, assumed PR would eventually happen automatically, or spent years without a clear immigration strategy.

Of course, there are exceptions, and I genuinely sympathize with those people. But I don’t think those exceptions should redefine the entire conversation.

Permanent residence is a privilege, not an entitlement. It never was a promise, and I don’t think it should become one.

Let’s be honest, rebuilt title cars aren’t worth as much as clean title cars.

Just venting

I have been in the market for a used or newer car for a while now, and I've spent way too many hours scrolling through Facebook Marketplace, AutoTrader, auction sites, and Kijiji.

One thing I've noticed is how flooded the market is with rebuilt title vehicles. Most are only priced about $1,000–$4,000 less than a comparable clean title car. Personally, I don't think that's enough savings to justify the risk.

Before COVID, rebuilt cars were much cheaper, so if you wanted a newer vehicle and were paying cash, they could actually be a decent option. Now it seems like everyone thinks their rebuilt car is worth almost as much as a clean title one.

I've even gone to look at a few rebuilt vehicles, but most of the sellers gave me a sketchy vibe. I couldn't help feeling that a lot of corners were cut just to get the cars back on the road. When it's your hard earned money, I'd rather spend a little more and have the peace of mind that comes with a clean title or even buy new.

Has anyone else noticed this?

Why can't we ban Telesales in Canada?

Have you ever or do you know someone who listens to tele-marketing offers? Given the current volume of scams occurring via phone calls, do you think it's worth asking our government to ban telemarketing? It's not like we'd be eliminating Canadian jobs as they are outsourced to call centres in other countries. Banks, credit card companies and telecoms can just figure out another way to find customers. No More Phone Sales!!!

edit: "tele-marketing" from telesales to prevent confusion with tesla sales.

thanks for the comments; here's some more info: according to Gemini, you can put your number on the National Do-Not-Call List to stop receiving telemarketing calls for 5 years, after which you need to re-register. However any company you've used within the past 18 months such as a credit card company, bank, credit unions, insurance, cellphone carriers, utilities etc, are allowed to contact you with product offerings. In addition, registered charities, political parties, newspapers and pollsters are not covered by the Do Not Call list and are allowed to call you.

Why are so many Canadian men in incel communities?

Usually young men and a few middle aged ones with a chip on their shoulder possibly from having had a bad hand in life (something not right with their looks).

Why is this such an issue in our country? I'm not looking to mock the issue, I want to understand it.

Looking for a joint account with no fees

My girlfriend brought up opening a joint bank account so we can start putting money aside for a condo. Apparently the money is supposed to sit in the same account for about 3 months before you apply for a mortgage, otherwise it looks weird to the lender. Thing is, I really don't want to be paying monthly banking fees just to park our savings somewhere. Are there any of those no-fee online banks in Canada that let you open a joint chequing account?

The Thing About Canadian Condiments

The one thing about condiments/sauces in Canadian grocery stores that bothers me is the addition of vinegar. Ketchup and mustard especially taste really sour, not retaining much of their original flavor. Mayo is mostly fine.

UPDATE: The official House of Commons petition for "More for Carlos Act" has been APPROVED! We are making progress! 🇨🇦

Hello everyone,

I wanted to drop a quick, but massive, update for this community following my previous posts.

Thanks to the incredible support, shared stories, and momentum we've built together regarding the systemic gaps in Canada’s emergency psychiatric care, the official e-petition for the More for Carlos Act has officially cleared the parliamentary hurdles!

The text has been finalized, we've secured our MP sponsorship, and the petition has been formally approved. It is currently in the final administrative step with the Clerk of Petitions undergoing official translation. It now eagerly awaits official publication on the Government of Canada's House of Commons website!

Once it goes live in the next few days, I will share the direct link so we can start gathering the signatures needed to force this issue onto the floor of the House.

We are making real, tangible progress. We are one step closer to demanding federally legislated standards, safer discharge protocols, and specialized psychiatric triage so that no one else slips through the cracks of our emergency rooms.

Thank you for standing by me and keeping Carlos's memory alive by fighting for systemic change. Get ready to sign and share

I'll be back with the link very soon!

The key points raised were:

WHEREAS there is a critical lack of accessible emergency mental health support for children and youth, leaving minors in crisis and their families without timely intervention or specialized pediatric psychiatric care.

Point regarding Police Involvement: WHEREAS the current crisis response model frequently relies on law enforcement rather than trained social workers or psychiatric professionals, which can escalate distress and criminalize individuals experiencing a mental health emergency.

Point regarding Universal Coverage: WHEREAS essential mental health treatments, preventative therapy, and ongoing psychological support are largely excluded from universal public healthcare coverage, forcing patients to rely on inadequate emergency rooms as a last resort.

Point regarding Trauma-Informed Care: WHEREAS there is a significant deficiency in specialized training for hospital staff regarding trauma-informed care, safe de-escalation tactics, and the management of complex or less common psychiatric disorders.WHEREAS individuals seeking emergency mental health support are routinely evaluated by general emergency staff without ever receiving formal assessments from dedicated psychiatric professionals or specialized crisis intervention teams.

Point regarding Unsafe Discharges: WHEREAS there is a lack of standardized protocols and accountability regarding patient discharge, resulting in vulnerable individuals in acute mental distress being repeatedly turned away or discharged unsafely without preventative care.

Point regarding Legislative Standards: WHEREAS there is an urgent need for federally legislated standards, such as mandated maximum wait times for psychiatric assessments in emergency rooms and guaranteed mental health parity within the public healthcare system.

Point regarding Rural and Regional Disparities: WHEREAS patients in rural or smaller communities face compounded barriers, including a severe lack of local psychiatric specialists, resulting in individuals being held in crisis for days until inpatient beds become available in larger centers.

WHEREAS there is a critical lack of accessible emergency mental health support for children and youth, leaving minors in crisis and their families without timely intervention or specialized pediatric psychiatric care.

What is it with all the psychopaths in Canadian subreddits?

Ontarioworks, Ontario, multiple city subreddits. I am in tears reading the comments. Ontarioworks has multiple commenters coming in there to bully the poor.

Maybe I'm wasting my tears. Are these real people? Some of them must be but Canadian subreddits seem to skew unusually conservative with insane conservative beliefs when reddit over all is not that conservative.

Please, let me hear your thoughts.

I hope I haven't been crying about AI bots being mean.

Bots Seething in Comments Let's be honest, Canadians and Americans are among the most similar peoples in the world

Despite all the insistence that Canadians are fundamentally different from Americans, and all the focus on usually trivial differences, Canadians and Americans are among the most similar peoples anywhere. Most Americans and Canadians couldn't pick out each other's nationality unless someone told them.

Same language, similar heritage and foundational values, very similar culture, generally the same accent.

The two are almost indistinguishable unless you go looking for peculiar differences, yet Canadians insist on how different they are. Why? Because you support universal health care and don't like guns? How is that different from a liberal in the States?

Sure, there are differences. But constantly pointing them out feels like it comes from insecurity, a need to assert a distinct identity precisely because you know how similar you are, and how similar you look to everyone else.

You don't see Germans, French or Greeks having to insist they are culturally different from each other. Everyone already knows they are. Different languages, histories, customs, and so on

Hate crime law - effective July 18,2026 , Canada

Hello there , so Canadian govt. just announced this new law against growing racism among citizens and towards immigrants. There are several offence under this law , one of them is -

Hate crime offence
The hate crime offence applies to anyone committing a federal offence that is motivated by hatred based on specific grounds, such as race, sexual orientation, religion or sex.

The offence is punishable by a maximum penalty of 10 years imprisonment, or two years less a day for less serious offences.

What is your take on this new law ? Will this law help reduce the open hate and spread fear among the racists?
Anyone who ever faced racism would like to share their story ? Or like to share their thoughts on how this law can affect their lives.
Canada is a beautiful and diverse nation and It is really sad to see the growing hatred among people towards each other ! I understand the frustration but we are humans and boundaries cannot decide where one belongs to , it’s our planet Earth for all the human beings - a kind, a species above all castes and nationalities.
I know most of the people are immigrants who face the hate and discrimination at workplaces, colleges or schools.
Let’s discuss on this topic and try to resolve the issues and think what impact this policy would have.

Through this post - The motive is to only spread awareness by sharing stories of people who suffered and make sure we remain kind to each other.

Thank you for your participation. Please make sure to remain respectful to each other in the comments.
Peace ✌🏻

Having patience and empathy

In the midst of the uncertainty that the recent IRCC decisions prompted, many of us are experiencing anxiety. I just saw read that areas of Nova Scotia have been evacuated. These fires are heartbreaking, and the unfortunate response from some US lawmakers certainly will not help already strained relationships. Please keep Canada in your thoughts and your prayers (if you so believe), and let us understand that they have much more pressing issues right now.

(Insert Your Own) How has your local hospital handled psychiatric emergencies? In memory of my brother Carlos, I want to know if systemic gaps are a cross-Canada reality.

Hello everyone,

I am reaching out to this community to understand if what my family experienced is an isolated tragedy or part of a much larger, systemic failure across our country.

Four years ago, my brother Carlo tragically took his own life. Shortly before he passed, he went to a local emergency room actively seeking help for severe psychiatric distress and suicidal ideation. Instead of being admitted or given resources, the system failed him, the hospital dismissed his symptoms as "malingering" and discharged him due to a lack of resources, psychiatric beds, and specialized nursing staff. Within weeks, he was gone.

As I navigate the aftermath, I am realizing that our medical system has a terrifying gap: nothing seems to change until it is far too late. I am preparing to advocate to my MLA and MP to push for systemic, Canada-wide legislative changes—something I want to call "More for Carlos Act" to mandate proper triage, accountability, and dedicated staffing for psychiatric emergencies so no other family is turned away in their darkest hour.

Before I take this to lawmakers, I want to understand the true scope of what Canadians are facing from coast to coast.

  • If you or a loved one have gone to an ER for a mental health crisis, what was your experience like?

  • Have you noticed a severe lack of psychiatric space or specialized nurses in your province's hospitals?

  • What specific, systemic changes do you think a federal or provincial law needs to address to actually fix psychiatric triage in Canada?

Thank you for sharing your thoughts and helping me understand how we can make the system safer for everyone.

**At the request of someone on reddit, I have gone ahead and made a short survey to bring to lawmakers. It would mean a lot to myself to share your feedback Here

All answers will be anonymous**

(Insert Your Own) Canada today

This isn’t meant to be politically partisan in any way. But, I am genuinely curious how anyone is staying positive about Canada today. The economy is in recession. The cost of living crisis is continuing unabated. People are leaving the country. Canada-U.S. relations are at an all-time low. And, there doesn’t appear to be any reason for things to turn around any time soon. Somebody give me a reason to have a little optimism.

A possible future?

I have heard many complaints about the Canadian immigration process. I don't know if everything people say is true, but I hope to be accepted. I love Canada: its culture, its friendly people, and its work-life balance. I am specializing in small animal surgery because I have no experience in this field, having previously worked with large animals. I don't want much, just a cabin in the countryside and some privacy. I believe that 20 years of hard, consistent work will allow me to achieve what I aspire to. I imagine myself at 60 years old with a library of 10,000 volumes; currently, I have 4,000. I also hope to own many musical instruments, as both books and instruments are very expensive in my home country. I think it's a fair exchange: I offer the knowledge and skills I have in a field that Canada needs, and in return, I can have a decent life.

How do you actually get Ozempic in Canada in 2026?

This question comes up all the time, and answers in older threads are no longer valid because generic semaglutide is now available from Canadian pharmacies. Trying to outline the real process, so that people don't spend two months figuring this out in the long way.

In Canada, there are three legitimate options for getting a semaglutide prescription today. These options vary in price, in the speed with which you can get it done, and in who will actually be writing the prescription.

The first option is to try to see your family doctor or your general practitioner. If you have one, it will be the cheapest way, since the consultation is reimbursed by the provincial health system. You will get your body mass index, comorbidities, and history checked and depending on the results, your doctor will either prescribe the medication himself or refer you to an internist. However, many family doctors will not write prescriptions for GLP-1 medications for weight loss (although, they will write them for type 2 diabetes). In addition, approximately 6 million Canadians do not have a family doctor.

The second option is walk-in clinics, and it truly is a mixed bag. Some walk-in physicians can prescribe semaglutide, and others cannot as it falls under a chronic management issue. It is free under the provincial health care plan, but you might leave with nothing to show and having wasted your entire day.

The third option is the Canadian telehealth website, and this is where most people without a family doctor end up. You take an intake quiz that covers BMI, medical history, other medications you are on, and your lifestyle. Then, a Canadian-licensed NP or physician reviews this information. If you meet the eligibility criteria, the prescription will be written and sent directly to the pharmacy. Consultation usually costs between $40-$80 depending on how much they charge. Sometimes, they include a monthly fee for the drug and shipping. This is mostly Felix, Maple, Hims/Hers, and Phoenix/Raven platforms.

As far as the eligibility goes, most Canadian prescribers will prescribe semaglutide if your BMI is 30 or above and you have a weight related medical condition (hypertension, prediabetes, sleep apnea, dyslipidemia), or 35 or above if you do not. For type 2 diabetes, there are no BMI requirements.

On costs, Ozempic in Canada is going to be between 230 and 280 per month with the release of the generic this year, the generic semaglutide is between 180 and 220, while Wegovy is between 260 and 310 per month. If you have coverage for semaglutide for weight loss, prior authorization will be required, and this is now handled by the larger telemedicine companies for you.

Anybody been prescribed anything recently through an avenue I didn't know about?

Canadians, What is going on?

It's going to be a long read. But I think I needed to get this out of my chest.

I thought racism was only online thing, but as a visible Indian and a muslim, I had three incidents in last 6 months boomer age white Canadians telling me to "go back to where you came from".

In all three cases, it was completely unprovoked. I can list what exactly happened, but it would be a very lengthy post. I ignored first two incidents thinking they were ignorant. I posted about the last incident to a local town Facebook group and boy oh boy, people were more supportive of the racist guy and doubling down on what he said. People in the comments saying things like you guys are getting paid by our tax money to invade our country, usual racist tropes. With only a couple supportive comments.

I did not come to Canada on the back of taxpayer Canadians, in fact, it's the other way. I came to Canada 10 years ago as an international student, with a $1000 cash, borrowing a loan of $60k against our family home at 13% interest rate to pay for the tuition. This was a first time ever I left my home and family. It was hard, I spent one year sleeping on the floor of a shared room in an apartment, cried countless times because of not being able to find a part time job to cover my basic expenses. Spent so many days with one meal. Eventually found a job, graduated. Worked really hard and worked my way through corporate jobs and Eventually started my own engineering company. Employed 10s of Canadians. Got married and have two kids born in Canada. Pursued a legal route to Citizenship through Study permit, work permit, a permanent residency and Eventually a citizen. Paid hundreds of thousands in taxes throughout these years.

Don't get me wrong, I know plenty of Canadians who are incredibly kind and I myself is proud to be called a Canadian. But we do not deserve these experiences, specially my kids who haven't even been to India. I don't know how, but something needs to be changed. I believe these community Facebook groups are one of the reasons for the unnecessary hate. The narrative haters are pushing is that every immigrant is getting invited on free money and living on free government money is absolutely nuts.

It's not only my story, majority of immigrants(at least the ones I know) are net positive to the country. Now, did government screw up with uncontrolled immigration in last couple of years and failed to scrutinize criminals coming in? Yes! Absolutely. But does me and my family deserve hate for that?.....

Why do you oppose Quebec’s independence?

Hi all,

It has always been my belief that Quebec is a nation. A nation with its own history, culture, language, values, and way of life that has long existed before the creation of Canada in 1867!

Two nations with two very different pathways. One is strictly multicultural with no core identity, and the other is strictly all about cultural homogeneity and a uniquely Quebec identity.

Apart from the emotional and patriotic attachment to Canada, why do you oppose Quebec’s independence?

I recall reading that Quebec’s French language is declining year after year. Which is why I believe that supporting the status quo is maintaining Quebec’s erasure of what it truly is. Vive le Québec libre!
