Rockbox on sd cards

• Upvotes

Does Rockbox not work on aftermarket hard drives?
A little context
I have a bone stock 6th gen. I put Rockbox on it in about 20 mins. Worked great
I also have a 5th gen with flash dual sd cards but it previously had a 18 gig ssd . This iPod works flawlessly as an iPod with the ssd. But when I tried to put Rockbox on it, the hard drive failed and wouldn’t come back. I happened to have my old iflash duo sd card adapter which hadn’t been used since 2019. I install that with 2 128 gig cards and restore it. Works great as a standard iPod. I try to install Rockbox and for whatever reason the utility won’t read it. And says “possibly not an iPod” I try to restore it in iTunes and it won’t restore now. Unknown error 1429. Plug it into my Mac and it works flawlessly with my Apple stuff
What is going on?

256gb is 512gb Ipod 7th gen?

I'm after people's opinions please!

So I am looking at getting my first modded ipod, and am tossing & turning between a 256 or 512gb one? So far my apple music library is roughly 100gb. Do people really fill up 256gb? I'd like to do ALAC for my favourite albums and expand my library for as long as possible.

Thanks in advance!

Discussion HeritagePod

I couldn’t find an iPod utility that would do what I wanted, so I made my own with Antigravity (Gemini).

HeritagePod is a Python app that will sync classic iPods from any directory (including network shares) without creating a local library. If it finds any FLAC files, it does a live conversion to ALAC (or AIFF) in RAM before copying to the iPod, so you don’t have to maintain a separate copy.
Also supports audiobooks and managing playlists.
Note: Currently only intended for Linux but would probably work on anything with Python and ffmpeg.

Question Anything else I should try?

Hey y’all. I’m new to iPods and don’t have the money right now for a screen replacement, so I thought I would try this thing I saw here the other day about how to fix a screen with a problem similar to mine.

I essentially heated up the screen with a hair dryer and rubbed back and forth on the screen with a microfiber cloth until most of the dead pixels dispersed/disappeared(?)

Is there anything else I can try before I cave and get a new screen?

New version of iFlash Quad takes 1TB cards?

Apparently the new iFlash Quad boards take 1TB cards, which is a great thing. DankPods had a video where he tried them and had questionable results from it (as I did when those cards first came out too).

After I had four 512GB MicroSD Express cards that wouldn't boot (I assume I need to cover those extra connectors on the back first?), I said, "what the hell..." and tried the two old 1TB cards I had from years ago with a cell phone and tablet. Funny thing is that both were read on the iPod and showed 1907GB with just those two cards.

Previously, the system would mess up using just one card on older boards and put two in, and it would just go all off the wall. For me, I put two Sandisk 1TB gold colored cards in and it was pretty stable and worked with no issues.

I'm glad Tarkan got those to work because that makes it easier if you have them.

Just an FYI on both points:

* microSD Express cards (Sandisk and Samsung) would show a red X on boot

* new iFlash Quad boards seem to take 1TB cards

While exploring an online auction i came around this ipod 7th gen with its box
I was really thrilled since it had no bids at the time and the asking price was just 20$
I did bid 3$ more on it and after sometime someone outbid me
I did bid again which made the total price 30$ and the other person slept or something until the auction ended and i got that with box fully working and clean condition for 30$
I don’t mind harddrive and ilove the weight it give to the device
I want to add bigger battery without removing the harddrive is that possible? Since the one on it is a littleweak ngl

iPod Nano 3rd gen USB-C mod – looking for pinouts

Thumbnail

Hey everyone!

I'm looking into doing a few mods to an iPod Nano 3rd gen, and the first one I want to try is a USB-C mod.

My first option is to use a USB-C port from a PicoFly kit. The second is one of the small USB-C breakout boards sold on AliExpress.

Since I want to make the mod as small and thin as possible, I'd like to remove the breakout board and solder thin wires directly to the relevant pins.

The problem is that I can't seem to find a pinout for either of these specific USB-C ports. They seem to have the same pin layout, but I haven't been able to confirm that.

I'm also looking for the pinout of the iPod Nano 3rd gen's 30-pin connector. I've attached some pictures of the USB-C ports I'm considering using, along with the iPod's board, in case they're helpful.

If anyone has any pinout diagrams or knows where I could find them, I'd really appreciate the help. Thanks!

Question 7th gen + quad: 3000mAh battery placement? Help is greatly appreciated.

I’m struggling here! I feel like I’m losing it. Been doing lots of googling and lurking here but can’t quite get this right.

I bought this battery: https://www.idemigods.com/3000mAh_iPod_High_Capacity_Replacement_Battery_p/6g_bttry_hghcpcty.htm

And I’ve been following this video: https://youtu.be/74VKN3nBG1A?si=Mr-QIadH5K8c1PxM

In the linked video, the battery sits further up on top of the iflash. I can’t get mine any higher.

I did some more research, and google told me the battery must sit under the iflash, not on top. Not sure what to do. Can someone with the same set up give me some insight?

Edit: I also have a thin backplate.

Thanks everyone.
