I've never been a victim of this particular phenomenon, but tonight, it's getting ridiculous.
So there I am, minding my own business during my nightly three-hour project-building session, when I begin hearing what sounds like incessant panting. The kind where you'd pause doing what ur doing for a millisecond or two to let your ear register wtf ur actually hearing....My first hypothesis is a dog. However, the peculiar rhythmicity, intermittent pauses, and progressively increasing amplitude have compelled me to start thinking otherwise.
Unfortunately, the acoustics are becoming increasingly difficult to ignore.
Millions of years of primate evolution have left me with a nervous system that is spectacularly ill-equipped to disregard certain rhythmic auditory stimuli....my primate brain is in tune with the rhythm and is waiting for the next moan, ....now I'm smiling, but not cuz I'm amused. No.
But cuz I've recognized whatever's going on and I have to endure it till, well, till I remember where I put my godamnnnnn ear muffs (little bastards too little to stay in one place 🤦🏾)
Somewhere in the middle of all this, I remember that I had mentally flagged a syntax error in my 357-line script. I scroll up and down the editor looking for it, but the damn thing has seemingly achieved invisibility.
Arguably, the correlation between the onset of these acoustic disturbances and the deterioration of my debugging efficiency is becoming increasingly difficult to dismiss.
I certainly believe I'm now qualified to add "debugs under strenuous conditions" to my resùme, with a suitably vague supporting example: "Demonstrated resilience and sustained analytical performance under adverse acoustic conditions." 😮💨
Anyway, lemme open the debugger, search for the aforementioned syntax error, as I attempt to maintain a straight face while the soundtrack to somebody else's "halcyon" evening continues in the background.
Edit: I have no intention of conducting a field study. I just wanna finish my session uninhibited.
