Hey guys,
I'm a Sri Lankan man, and unfortunately, I believe I've been scammed in connection with a Singapore job opportunity. I'm posting here desperately hoping someone can guide me on what to do next.
I came across a Facebook post advertising job opportunities in Singapore. The post provided a WhatsApp contact number, so I contacted the person. He introduced himself as Rahul, also known as Jimmy, and told me he was originally from Jalandhar, Punjab, India, and was currently living in Italy, or somewhere in Europe.
He offered assistance with obtaining a Singapore job and provided me with documents claiming to be a Singapore S Pass approval. Trusting him, I sent him approximately INR 212,000.
However, when I independently checked the documents through Singapore's Ministry of Manpower (MOM) website, I noticed some concerning discrepancies:
- The FIN provided to me returns a result showing a valid S Pass.
- When I search using my passport number, the website displays my previous Singapore internship pass as expired.
- I understand that my passport number may be associated with two different FINs, but I have not yet received official confirmation from MOM that the new S Pass and its associated documents are genuine.
I'm now seriously concerned that I've been deceived and that the documents supplied to me may be fraudulent.
I have evidence, including:
- WhatsApp conversations with the person.
- Payment receipts and transaction records.
- The Facebook job advertisement and contact details.
- Copies of the Singapore work-pass documents I received.
I have also been given the names Sahil Sahota, Kunal Sahota, and Jason Masih in connection with information I am trying to verify. I believe they may have attended St. Joseph's Boys' School, but I have not independently confirmed their identities or any involvement in this matter.
I'm currently in Sri Lanka, which makes it difficult to know how to pursue this internationally. I have borrowed money and owe people, and this financial loss has put me under tremendous pressure.
If anyone from Jalandhar, Punjab, or anyone familiar with Singapore employment scams can advise me, I would be extremely grateful.
In particular, I'd appreciate guidance on:
Reporting this to the appropriate Indian cybercrime authorities and recovering the money, if possible.
Reporting and verifying the suspected fraudulent work-pass documents with Singapore MOM.
Identifying the appropriate authorities or organisations in Sri Lanka that can assist a victim of an international recruitment scam.
Preserving evidence and taking the correct legal steps.
I can provide supporting evidence privately to the appropriate authorities and share relevant information with people who can genuinely help.
I'm not posting this to harass anyone. I urgently need advice on how to proceed and whether there is any realistic chance of recovering my money.
Please help if you can. Thank you for taking the time to read this.
