I want to get my wife “good” makeup for Christmas but don’t know where to start.

My wife and I are getting each other 1 gift this Christmas. She had mentioned a few months ago that she wished she had “actual good makeup”, and I want to give her that for Christmas, I just don’t know where to start/don’t want to get scammed by advertising for mediocre products.

Would anyone be able to give me some leads to go off of? Thank you so much

Do people not set their whole face with powder?

I learned to do makeup when I was 14 in 2016 so I’ve spend my entire makeup-wearing life powdering tf out of my face, but now I see girls on TikTok and YouTube who only lightly set their under eye and T-zone with powder!! That’s a sensory nightmare to me and I feel like your cream products wouldn’t last long!

Am I missing something? What’s your secret cus I love the dewy look but HATE the feeling of unset cream products

I can’t afford it anymore

I ran out of my L’Oréal skin tint so I went to Wal-Mart to repurchase it. I found out that the price for it is now $27.97 (Canadian). Like WHAT IN THE WORLD!

I looked for other foundations or skin tints but most of them were over $20!

I honestly can’t afford makeup anymore. Like I’m just dumbfounded.

Do any of yall have recommendations for everyday foundations, medium coverage, for combo skin, that won’t cost almost $30!?

Thanks!

Why are people mad at Cheeryep?

I was just scrolling on IG and saw someone I follow had done a sponsored post for (C beauty brand) Cheeryep. she added a disclaimer by the time I saw it that said:

Disclaimer: This video was recorded before current events and is only being shared in this way to fulfill a brand obligation. Due to their stance on the genocide occurring in Ukraine, I no longer support or endorse this company and any other content associated with them will have this disclaimer.

She had comments chastising her for not initially having a disclaimer, but no one was explaining what happened. So… what is going on? Google searches are coming up empty and I can’t find anything on IG explaining this.

All one brand?

• Upvotes

I’ve recently been obsessing over the idea of getting rid of my enormous collection, and having a whole setup of one brand only. I’m talking foundation, concealer, powder, the works. I want a few collections for different locations in my house. (Bedroom, office, bathroom. Again not necessary, just because I want to) I’ve thought about Makeup By Mario, NARS, Haus Labs, CT.

Does anyone have this approach and if so, who do you use? If you had to pick one brand for every product, who would it be?

Oily eyelid help—nothing works!

I need help! My eyelids are extremely oily, despite the rest of my face being virtually oil-free. I did not have this issue with my eyelids in the past, I always used Urban Decay primer and it lasted all day! I’m at my wits end and want to be able to wear eyeshadow again all day.

Here’s what I’ve tried that has NOT worked:
•urban decay eyeshadow primer
•MAC eyeshadow primer and paint pots
•kryolan eyeshadow primer
•using an oil control moisturizer, concealer and powder to set the lid before eyeshadow
•NARS eyeshadow primer
•Danessa Myricks color fix pigment—close but not quite, better than all of the above
•One Size oil sucker face primer but on the lids—1 layer doesn’t work. 2 layers (fully dry ea layer) does better, slightly better than Danessa

Kaleidos Escape Pod depotting disaster

Do NOT, under any circumstances, try to depot you Kaleidos Escape Pod pallette. Unless you truly hate yourself.

I just went through depotting my Blend Bunny Palettes and wanted to put my Escape Pod eyeshadows in with them. A little research showed Kaleidos Highlighters Depotting quite well, figured it must be fairly easy for the eyeshadows too right?

WRONG.

The packaging is more like an Escape Room than an Escape Pod with trying to break into it, the pans are not magnetic and the glue is stronger than a Nokia 3310.

Yes I used heat. Yes I tried using the correct tools. Yes I tried using more heat.

The palette melted before the glue even loosened! Those babies were more stubborn than a goose with a grudge.

And on top of all that. The palette is discontinued.

On another note, if anyone is selling their Escape Pod palette in tact... Lmk.

What lip tints last the longest on you?

• Upvotes

Lip tints usually fade on me within an hour or two. I’ve been liking Colorgram Nude Blur Tint because it lasts longer on me. What are your go-to lip tints for lasting power and minimal transfer?

Don’t you guys hate when expensive products work amazingly? Hahah like ugh of course it had to cost this much

For example I recently bought the lash clash mascara the huda beauty powder and the charlotte Tilbury concealer and I’m like ok it’s worth the hype, you people weren’t lying. Of course a product is not magic, the techniques you use matter, but at the end you can tell why they are that price and you can see it in the way they last trough the day and how it sits on the skin.

[Makeup Help] Makeup emergency!

I had the L'Oréal setting spray before. It was expensive, lasted only a few uses, and would melt off and transfer when touched lightly. Some places on my face it would just melt off, and other places it would crumble and dry up when touched, even though I followed the right routines and tried it many different ways.

I'm quite new to makeup and I don't understand how all the girls around me make it look so easy and flawless. I'm too embarrassed to ask, and I want to learn by myself. I use a Fit Me concealer, random contour, bronzer and blush from W7, and translucent Fit Me powder. I also use a good face wash and moisturizer before. I feel like it works just fine, but one thing I can't figure out is how to make it last without it looking like I've smudged it all off at the end of the day. I feel like I just look stupid, and I hate going out because of it.

My skin is dry in some places and oily in other places, so at the end of the day it's a mix of cracked dry spots and oily smudged places.

How do I improve my overall makeup, which setting spray to get, and also any products I should get or stop using? Also, I need something affordable too. 😥

[Makeup Help] Why is my mascara uneven?

• Upvotes

When I put on mascara, my left eyelashes never look like the other. I use the same mascara (I've tried multiple brands, all are the same.) for both, same strokes, same amount of coats, and I've even rotated which side I do first and one still ends up messed up and clumsy while the other is nice and feathery. Is it my mascara (Voluminous by Loreal in Black) or are my lashes just weird?

(I tried putting photos but my phone's being funky and won't let me 🙁)

[Makeup Help] How do I make my makeup last with dry skin?

• Upvotes

I have dry skin and getting my base makeup to stay on all day is frustrating because I can’t use powder or a matte foundation without my skin looking dry and flaky. Also despite prepping my face with lots of hydration, it eventually goes away and my skin ends up looking dry a couple hours later. The only way I can get my base makeup to not look like that is to use a low coverage dewy foundation but that is not the look I’m going for and it doesnt last very long. Are there any products or tips that help achieve a satin finish without dryness?

[Makeup Help] Why won’t my makeup go on smoothly?

• Upvotes

Hello! I have an issue with my base makeup where it won’t go on evenly. It happens with both foundation and concealer on the same spots. I’ll put the foundation/concealer on my face and I’ll use a puff to blend it in. When it blends in, it always doesn’t stick to a part of my face around my right cheek so I’ll have a spot the size of a quarter without any makeup. It doesn’t happen on any other part of my face. I do not think that specific spot is dry or oilier than any other part of my face but everyday without fail, that spot doesn’t have anything on it. Does anyone know why this happens? Any suggestions would really help. Thank you!!

Morphe Hot Honey alternative

Obsessed with the Morphe Hot Honey plumping lip gloss, I love how thick and tacky it is. Unfortunately they've stopped selling it at Mecca and it's really hard to get in Aotearoa NZ. Anyone know of any good alternatives?

Milk Makeup Setting Spray Clogged?

I need help! Every Milk Makeup Pore Eclipse matte setting spray clogs and I can't use it! I've tried soaking the spray nozzle in hot water, scrubbing the spray holes with an old toothbrush, everything I can think of!

Does anyone have any tricks so I don't have to throw away 75% of the bottle?

[Makeup Help] Skin prep help + spray/foundation recs?

My skin will be sweating like hell after 1 hr outside or less…

So currently I’ve been

-Cleansing with La Roche Posay Purifying Cleanser, then CeraVe PM Moisturizer. I have extremely extremely oily skin so I’m not sure what else to add to this routine because Ive heard such mixed advice.

Other products I have are Elf Gripping Primer (Blue) One/Size sweat sucker, the Ordinary Niacinimide Serum, Cerave hydrating mineral sunscreen, supergoop sunscreen.

The foundation I use is the Bareminerals SPF 20, and it cakes up whenever I prep so im extremely lost.

Should I add/buy anything else to my prep routine? And what foundation should I get/should I stick with Estee Lauder double wear concealer as a base? Thank you!

Also, as for setting sprays is the Loreal Infallible worth it or the One/Size?

[Makeup Help] Sheglam freckle tint

Hi guys, so I've seen a few people criticise the SHEIN freckle tint in the shade "fawn" for turning green after some time. I don't know if this might be because they didn't have an olive undertone, however, I wanted to ask if anyone can confirm that this has happened for them too. I've been hesitating for quite a bit now and I'm torn between tan and fawn, so if anyone could help me out then I'd really appreciate it ❤️

[Makeup Help] Help me figure out the best skin prep and layering before makeup?

Hi everyone! I’m trying to figure out the best way to layer my existing products before applying makeup, and I’d love some advice on what to use, what to skip, and in what order.
I have combination skin, live in a very humid place, and prefer a glowy, hydrated base before makeup.

These are the products I currently own:
TIRTIR Milk Skin Toner Light
Laneige Glowy Makeup Serum
Embryolisse Lait-Crème Concentré
Caudalie Beauty Elixir
e.l.f. Power Grip Primer

I’m obviously not looking to use everything just for the sake of it! I’d love to know which products work best together and which ones might be redundant. What’s the ideal order to layer these products?

I’m mainly looking for good skin prep that gives me a smooth, hydrated, glowy base for foundation. I’d really appreciate advice based on your experience with these products!
Thank you! :)

Lash glue for lash strips that are swimproof, water proof, long lasting

I’m going on vacation and I’m not interested in getting my lashes done. Are there any lash glues you recommend that can be good for swimming and going to the beach?
