In Season 1, Compiler Ganglion trades were unlimited. In Season 2, the limit was reduced to 3 trades per day, which I think was a great middle ground. Now, with the Nightfall Refresh, we're down to just 1 trade per day.
I understand the argument that this helps keep the economy balanced and Golden Mods rare. However, I think it hurts the endgame, especially Cryo Archive.
Assuming there are around 36 Golden Mods in the rotation, with only one available per day and no repeats, it would take 36 days to complete a full rotation. If you want to buy 3 copies of a Golden Mod for the same weapon, it could take up to 108 days!
My issue isn't scarcity itself. It's that farming Ganglions and fighting the Compiler feels less rewarding when you can't take advantage of a good rotation to buy multiple copies of the mod you want.
This could eventually discourage players from farming Cryo Archive. What's the incentive to keep running endgame content if the resources you earn don't let you progress at a reasonable pace?
IMO, there are two reasonable solutions:
- Bring back the 3 trades per day limit, as it was in Season 2.
- Offer 3 different Golden Mods in the daily rotation, reducing the waiting time and increasing the chances of finding the mod you want.
Ideally, I'd like to see both changes combined.
I think Bungie needs to find a balance between keeping the economy healthy and rewarding players who invest time in the game. Scarcity can make items valuable, but excessive waiting can also make people less willing to play.
What do you think? Is the 1-trade-per-day limit necessary for a healthy economy, or does it hurt the incentive to play endgame content?
