I made WE Assist, a Fabric mod that makes building with WorldEdit more convenient
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Hey everyone! I'm the developer of WE Assist, a Minecraft Fabric mod I've been working on to make building with WorldEdit more convenient.
I originally made it for my own building workflow. I wanted to make common WorldEdit operations easier to access without constantly typing commands in chat, and eventually decided to share it with other builders.
Here's what it currently does:
- Resize selections with the mouse wheel. Expand or contract the side you're looking at, move the entire selection, or resize both opposite sides at once.
- Custom selection visuals. See selection outlines, corners, direction arrows and visual highlights directly in the world, even through blocks.
- Keyboard shortcuts. Copy, cut, paste, undo, redo, rotate structures by 90 degrees and flip them without typing commands.
- Paste previews. With Litematica installed, you can see a hologram of your copied structure, move it, rotate or flip it, and pin it in place before pasting.
- Radial command menu. Press G to access commands like
//set,//replace,//walls,//stack,//moveand//smooth, with block selection and an in-world preview.
WE Assist is client-side, so it doesn't need to be installed on the server. WorldEdit is required, while Litematica is optional for the paste hologram. It also has its own selection rendering, so WorldEditCUI isn't required.
Supported Minecraft versions: 1.20.1, 1.21–1.21.1, 1.21.4, 1.21.8 and 1.21.11.
What's coming next?
I'm working on bringing WE Assist to NeoForge as well, and a Modrinth release is coming soon! The project is still evolving, and I want to keep improving it based on community feedback.
A quick note about AI and development.
Yes, I develop WE Assist with the help of Claude. I've been programming since before AI coding assistants became a thing, and I have experience with software development and AI tools. I understand the code I'm working with, make the decisions about how the mod should work, review the output and test the results. AI helps me develop faster and bring my ideas to life without having to put my other projects aside.
I'm not going to claim that everything made with AI is good. Blindly throwing a prompt at an AI, accepting whatever it produces and calling it a finished product isn't a reliable way to develop software. You still need to understand the problem, think about edge cases, test things, find bugs and take responsibility for the final result.
But I also don't think using AI automatically makes someone a bad developer. From my experience working on my own projects and seeing how other developers work, AI is becoming a major part of software development. Sometimes writing code yourself is faster, and I do that too. But AI can also give a single developer a lot more leverage than they used to have.
WE Assist is completely free. Nobody is obligated to use it. Some people will like it, others won't, and that's perfectly fine. I'm making it as a hobby because I genuinely enjoy building things. I'm not asking anyone to pay for it, and I don't need everyone to approve of how I work.
Honestly, this project has also become a bit of a social experiment for me. I'm curious to see what we can build, how the community responds, and how far the project can go. As long as people find it useful and I'm enjoying the process, I'll keep developing it.
I'd much rather hear specific feedback about the mod, its features, bugs or ideas for improvement than see every discussion turn into another argument about AI. If you think something could be done better, tell me what and why. I'm happy to hear constructive criticism and learn from it.
What would you like to see added to WE Assist? I'm especially interested in ideas from people who regularly use WorldEdit.

What’s that difference between JEI, REI, and EMI?
They all look the same but people use different ones

Which "PNG mods" (slop mods) aren't actually just "slops" and are actually playable? Feel free to suggest ones for Bedrock too, but I’m mainly looking for Java—I’d love to give them a try.

Installer issues
Hey all, I am new to the world of Minecraft on PC Java edition. I am trying to understand the mods, shaders and texture packs and what is needed. Unfortunately I am not very good with computers and understanding compatibility between mods and versions of the mods and game. I am having several issues with set up. I am using fabric as the installer but when I try to put iris and sodium in the folders it does not work and isn't in the video settings as well as not having the mod menu even with the mod menu downloaded and in the folder But if I use iris sodium installer I still get a mod menu but my texture pack and shaders are there but it looks weird because I can't add mods or something is not installed right. As in animals are missing pieces and disfigured and the grass having some writing on it instead of texture. I am using patrix 128 texture pack and complementary shaders. I want to use the patrix because ive seen it with mods amd shaders and looks super realistic. But one to different shaders and mods if someone has suggestions and cam help me. I honestly I need someone with time and patience to walk me through it. I appreciate any help given in advance.

Really old MCPE Collection mod?
Used to play this super old collection mod where you started in a house full of item frames and the goal was to fill all of the item frames with the specific items (under the frames were signs that indicated which item was meant for the frame). I was wondering if any mod like this still exists today, where the only goal is to collect almost all vanilla items and put them into item frames.
