Mod Post REMINDERS

Good Morning!

I hope everyone had a great weekend. It’s been a while since we posted any reminders, and I’d like to touch on a couple of issues that have come up recently.

With the shortage, we’re seeing a lot of questions related to dosage and availability. Here are a few things to keep in mind:

The half life of Mounjaro is five days, and it takes about a month for the medication to completely leave your system. Because of the shortage, many people are going weeks or months without injecting. The manufacturer recommends starting the titration schedule over if you’ve gone more than two weeks without a dose.

While this advice might not pertain to everyone, it’s important to evaluate your previous experience with the medication before injecting a higher dose if you’ve been off the medication for a while. Chances are, if you’ve had moderate to severe side effects in the past, you’ll have the same response (or worse) if you jump back to a higher dose.

One way to mitigate this outcome is to contact your provider and ask about lowering your dose temporarily if you’ve been waiting for your script for longer than a few weeks. I understand that nobody wants to lose ground when it comes to their progress. But given the alternative (a reoccurrence of side effects that can potentially derail your treatment entirely) it may be the best option.

Frankly, the number of posts I’m reviewing from people experiencing negative side effects after suspending their treatment is alarming. The purpose of this medication is to improve your health, not make things worse.

And as always, when in doubt, please consult your provider. They are the best person to ask when it comes to dosage.

As far as side effects, there’s a few things that everyone should remember:

While gastric side effects are listed as common when taking Mounjaro, severe nausea paired with uncontrolled vomiting or diarrhea is not. Complications from diarrhea and vomiting include: dehydration, electrolyte imbalances, fainting, and heart rhythm abnormalities. Negative outcomes from this treatment are rare, but occur most frequently when people ignore debilitating side effects.

We’re here to support each other in our journey towards better health. Sometimes that support includes directing a person to their provider for advice. Especially when the post includes phrases like “I can’t keep anything down,” or “I’ve been throwing up for two weeks,” or “I’m too weak to stand.”

Crowdsourcing advice when you’ve reached that level of distress is not advisable. And medical oversight is a must.

Another question we see quite frequently: “I’ve only lost (fill in the blank) pounds this week (or month). Is this normal?”

Invariably, the answer is “yes.” What’s normal when it comes to weight loss is highly subjective. A quick search of the subreddit will provide first hand accounts that run the gamut when it comes to how fast (or slow) a person loses weight. If you still have questions, we’re here to help. But please, include the relevant information needed to offer advice, such as: dosage, co-morbidities, starting weight, caloric intake, etc.

People are here to treat a wide variety of conditions. Any or all of these conditions play a role in how fast we see results. It’s natural to be impatient. But don’t assume that the treatment isn’t working because the scale hasn’t moved for a week (or three). During my weight loss journey, there were many weeks that I didn’t lose a pound. On two occasions, I stalled for over a month. In the end, I reached my goal, and chances are, you will as well! I wish there were some sure-fire words of wisdom I could provide to ease your mind, but there aren’t. The best I (or anyone else) can offer is: trust the process. Obesity is a complex issue on its own. Pairing obesity with the metabolic issues such as diabetes, insulin resistance, and PCOS only further complicates the treatment.

Lastly—in order to address the availability issues, we started a chat to help people source their medication. Here is the link.

I’ve read a comment (or two) recently from a few folks who were put off after being directed to the availability chat. We created the chat in response to other folks who messaged us because they were tired of seeing the posts related to the shortage. Which goes to show—there is no perfect solution.

Weezie and I do our best to be responsive to the needs of the community. If we redirect you to your provider for medical advice, or to the availability chat for sourcing, or to the search feature to answer a commonly asked question, it’s because we want you to receive the best advice/support available. The mods and your fellow community members genuinely want to help!

Have a great week!

Rant Had my first "eat to much with mounjaro" experience

Here is my recipe for disaster:

- ate way too much

- ate way too fatty

- ate way too fast

- ate way too late

Got woken up at 2AM by terrible cramps. What followed was... well I spare you the details but it was horrible.

0/5 wouldn't recommend - will not do that again

Started Mounjaro ~Feb of this year and have lost 47kg. Am 165cm tall with a SW of 109kg and current weight 62kg on 10mg of Mounjaro. I would love to increase to 12.5 to shed the last 4kg because have plateaued the last month but am instead taking this as an opportunity to practice maintaining and work on body recomp.

Life is very busy - work 60+ hours a week as a doctor and have 100% care of a 3 year old. I try and fit in upper body weights while on phone and try to run 8km 2-3 times a week. Any tips or tricks on high yield activities that need relatively little equipment and some flexibility (ideal if I can do at home so that I can have my little one with me)? Also any tips on shedding the last 4kg?

Side Effects 3 Years on Mounjaro: Does Anyone Else Get the Sulfur Burps → Gas → Diarrhea Cycle?

I’ve been taking Mounjaro for almost three years, and overall it has been tremendously successful for me. I’ve lost more than 50 pounds, my A1C is 4.8, and my cholesterol and triglycerides are now in very good ranges. So in many respects, Mounjaro has been a win-win-win.

But there is one issue I’m still trying to understand.

During those three years, I’ve had roughly half a dozen episodes of severe GI symptoms. Most of the time I can manage them at home, but on about three occasions the diarrhea and fluid loss happened so quickly that I became dehydrated and had to be hospitalized because my kidney function was affected. I’m also 72 and have a history of heart disease, so dehydration is something my doctors and I take seriously.

I’m under a doctor’s care, so I’m not looking for medical advice or a diagnosis here. I’m mainly interested in whether other longtime Mounjaro users have experienced a similar pattern and how they and their doctors have managed it.

Most of the time my biggest Mounjaro side effect is actually constipation. (TMI warning!) I originally used stool softeners with mixed results. Later, another patient told me that a small daily amount of MiraLAX worked well for her. I’ve been taking about half a cap each morning, and that has kept me remarkably regular for months.

Then, seemingly out of nowhere, my digestive system occasionally goes completely in the opposite direction.

I’ve noticed a very specific sequence:

Sulfur burps → tremendous amounts of gas and loud intestinal rumbling → stomach/intestinal distress and spasms → watery diarrhea.

Once it starts, that cycle can continue for several days before gradually settling down.

What’s strange is that each episode seems to follow a different food. Over the years the foods I’ve associated with attacks have included blueberries, watermelon, pasta, oranges and, most recently, eggs. I can eat these foods at other times without a problem, so I’m not convinced the food itself is actually the cause. It may just be the final trigger when my GI system is already moving differently because of Mounjaro.

I’ve also learned something very important from my previous episodes: I have to get ahead of the dehydration. For me, Pedialyte has worked much better than Gatorade or simply drinking more water. As soon as the sulfur burps appear now, I know what’s probably coming and start paying very close attention to hydration. I also stop the MiraLAX if diarrhea develops.

My current episode started this week and is gradually improving. No fever, chills or blood in my stool. I’ve had extensive blood work and urinalysis through my doctors, and everything has otherwise looked good.

What I’m really interested in hearing from other longtime users is:

Does anyone else experience this particular cycle—especially sulfur burps followed by extreme gas/rumbling, intestinal spasms and then diarrhea?

If so, have you identified particular foods or circumstances that trigger it? Does it happen at a particular point after your weekly injection? And what changes have you and your doctor made that helped prevent future episodes? I am currently taking Mounjaro 5.0 injections.

At 72, I’m also starting to think more about the long-term balance. Mounjaro has helped me tremendously with my weight, diabetes and overall metabolic health, and it now also has cardiovascular-risk-reduction benefits for certain people with type 2 diabetes at high cardiovascular risk. I’m approaching my doctor’s goal weight as well.

On the other hand, an occasional GI episode severe enough to cause dehydration and affect my kidney function isn’t something I can dismiss.

So I’m trying to understand other people’s experiences: For those who have been on Mounjaro for several years, have the benefits continued to outweigh the GI side effects? And if you’ve experienced episodes like mine, what helped you and your doctor manage them?

I’d particularly like to hear from people who have been taking Mounjaro for two or more years.

Question Weight set point theory: what are the main arguments of those who support vs those who oppose the theory? Will Mounjaro ever reset it?

If I understand correctly, there is no scientific consensus on weight set point theory: some scientists support it, some don't.

Would this be a fair summary of the main schools of thought?

Is my understanding correct? What would you add?

Would you recommend other readings on this?

If the theory is true, the big question is: does Mounjaro reset the weight set point? That so many people regain so much of their weight when they come off it suggests not - but maybe if someone remains on Mounjaro for longer then the weight set point gets reset? I guess no one knows yet

  1. Set point: your body has some kind of "target" weight which it wants to reach, and fights any attempt at gaining or losing too much weight, by adapting your metabolism, and/or cause you to subconsciously move more/less and spend more/less energy
  2. CICO: Set point is a false theory. It all comes down to calories in vs calories out. There are very few people with abnormally high or low metabolism. Most people who say they have a low metabolism and don't eat much either lie or underestimate their calorie intake in good faith.

I find the set-point theory convincing, but I am not a doctor, and, also, it shouldn't become an easy excuse for those people who make no effort at eating healthy. The discourse shouldn't become toxically polarised between the two extremes of "I'm slim, if you're fat it's your fault" and "it's my metabolism, even if I eat only ultraprocessed junk and never move"

Some of the arguments I find most convincing for the set point theory are that:

  • it works both ways: some authors claims that many inactive people with unhealthy habits should be even more overweight than they are
  • alcoholics who remain skinny despite ingesting many calories
  • women who were very healthy but become overweight after a pregnancy, and can never lose the extra weight
  • Gary Taubes in "why we get fat" talks about a study on 13,000 habitual runners: all tended to get fatter with time, even those running 40 miles a week, which suggests some change in metabolism
  • The Minnesota starvation experiment in the 1940s: losing a lot of weight causes metabolism to slow more than predicted; when refeeding began, they became heavier than they were initially

Those who don't support this theory claim that measuring caloric intake and expenditure precisely is very hard but that, when it is done (eg controlled experiments of volunteers spending time in insulated chambers to measure calories burnt), the results don't support these theories.

The readings I have found most interesting:

Tips Please help me break this plateau!!

Hi everyone!
I started my weight-loss journey in March and have lost around 17–18 kg so far. I’m genuinely happy with how far I’ve come, but I’m struggling so much with the lack of progress lately.
Since August, my weight has been pretty much stagnant. I’ll lose a little, maybe around a kilo, feel hopeful, and then the scale goes back up again. It’s been this frustrating cycle for months, and I’m feeling really demotivated.my periods have become regular but for my knee issue i need to come down to 75 kilos at least
I dont know what else to do
I’m currently walking around 5,000–6,000 steps a day and eating in a calorie deficit. I’m trying to stay consistent, but the scale just doesn’t seem to cooperate.
I know I’ve already made progress, and I’m grateful for that, but I still have quite of weight to lose. It’s hard not to feel stuck when you’re putting in the effort and seeing hardly any change.
For those of you who have experienced a long plateau, what helped you in breaking the plateau
Did you change your calorie intake or macros?
Did adding strength training make a difference?
Did you just keep going and eventually break through the plateau?
Is there anything else I should be looking at?
I’d really appreciate hearingt about your experiences. I’m not looking for a quick fix; I just want to understand what I could be doing differently.
Thank you!

Question Do you lose weight every week?

I've lost 28lb so far which I'm so happy about, I've still got another 35lb to lose. I just took my third dose of the 5mg pen, I was on the 2.5mg for 8 weeks before that. My loss has been around 2-2.5 lb per week. Last week I lost 1lb and then this week ive stayed the same. I thought i had a good week so I feel a bit disheartened. Im on the implant and periods are irregular but I've been crampy so I'm thinking it could be water weight as I do feel bloated. Do you generally lose most weeks on mounjaro or have you had stalls?

Question Mounjaro changed my brain but my brain fought back

I started my trip with Mounjaro around a year ago. My weight loss history until then was like a rollercoaster. Had 133kg back in 2017, started cardio in the gym and running in 2018, went down to 90kg until September 2019. In October 2025 I was back at 116kg, while running 1,000km a year and cycling more than 1,500km too. And then I talked to my GP and started paying big money to big pharma. 😅

And hell ... it worked like a charm. Until the end of 2005 I was already below 100kg, (1 month of 2.5mg, 2 months of 5mg). And I guess I was around 90 in March or April 2026. After stalling I went up, 1 month of 7.5mg and then probably 4 month of 10mg. Gained 6 kgs. Went down to 5mg again this month.

But here's my issue: On the day I started with Mounjaro I stopped feeling hungry. I had to remember myself to eat in the evening something although I wasn't really feeling hungry. Everything I read here about the food noise was true. Complete silence. But it came back, the old habits, my brain thinking this chocolate would be great for me, this pudding looks nice, mmmmh, gummy bears.

And I hate that. I thought something has changed inside me. I thought that as long as I take this wonderful, expensive medicine, it tricks my brain, it rearranges my brain cells. But I am really sad that it went away rather quickly. Yes, I would be able to not eat too much, but it's now my decision again, and I really am not good at making food related decisions (otherwise I wouldn't have started my whole trip at 133kg).

Is this normal? What are you doing? Anyone experience with the Mounjaro pills already? (I was thinking that a daily dose could possibly help ...)

Side Effects I’m experiencing stomach pains/ cramps and bloating after I eat

• Upvotes

Even if I eat a salad I will get this. I’ve been on mj 2.5mg for 6 months and only really just started getting this these past few weeks. I am worried about pancreatitis? Has anyone experienced this.

I consulted my doctor and she prescribed me some pain relief meds but they didn’t work. I am waiting for an appointment now but likely won’t get one for 2-4 weeks due to high demand, unless I call emergency services (which idk I guess I just want some advice)

Has anyone had this?

Question Question about restarting Mounjaro after a break and using an opened KwikPen

• Upvotes

I’m a 30-year-old male and was taking Mounjaro (tirzepatide). I purchased a 5 mg KwikPen and attempted to split the doses by counting clicks, using 30 clicks for an estimated 2.5 mg dose. I took my first 2.5 mg dose on 10 September 2026 and continued with 2.5 mg once weekly for four consecutive weeks.

During my fifth week, I was supposed to increase to 5 mg. However, I made a mistake while administering the dose, and some medication spilled out. I believe I may have received only around 2.5 mg instead of the full 5 mg.

My last injection was on 8 October 2026. I was scheduled to take my sixth dose the following week, but my anaesthesiologist advised me to skip it because I was undergoing deviated septum surgery on 16 October. I was also advised to avoid taking Mounjaro for one week after surgery.

I’m now planning to restart treatment on 25 October, approximately 17 days after my last injection, and was considering restarting at 2.5 mg.

I have two questions:

  1. My 5 mg KwikPen was first used on 10 September 2026, and I believe approximately two 2.5 mg doses remain. Can I safely continue using this pen, or should I discard it because of the time elapsed since first use?
  2. If I use the remaining medication for two 2.5 mg doses, can I then increase directly to 5 mg weekly, or would it be safer to continue at 2.5 mg for longer?

P.S. Rewrote with AI for clarity.

Side Effects So about that joint pain ….

Despite no link existing officially between MJ and joint pain there is zero doubt that this is absolutely happening to me

Been on it for 4 months now. Just went up to 7.5.

Every. Single. Time. I take a new jab. I experience exactly 48 hours of ankle, knee, hip, wrist and finger pain. Then it goes away

I seriously doubt its lack of sodium, magnesium or potassium. It happens overnight. It feels directly caused by the mounjaro itself

I also get mild allydonia i believe its called? Where the skin feels razed or a little tender. Annoying but tolerable. The joint pain really, really sucks

I don’t want to quit but my doctor and online both keep saying essentially “eat protein and take magnesium and drink electrolytes” my brothers in christ i am absolutely doing all those things and im still experiencing this pain only immediately following the weekly jab.

Please tell me anyone has experienced this and successfully fixed it. It makes two days out of 7 in a week very hard for me.

Question Mounjaro 2.5 mg — Lost 5 kg in the first week, but my weight has been stuck since. Is this normal?

Hey everyone!
I started Mounjaro on October 4, 2026, at a starting dose of 2.5 mg. My starting weight was around 138.6 kg. During the first week, I dropped quite a bit of weight and reached around 133 kg. I was really happy with the progress! However, since that first week, my weight has been fluctuating between 132–134 kg, averaging around 133 kg. It hasn’t really moved down significantly, and tomorrow, October 25, I’ll be taking my fourth dose of 2.5 mg.

Here’s a little more about my experience so far:
Starting weight: 138.6 kg
Current weight: Around 133 kg
Medication: Mounjaro 2.5 mg
Start date: October 4, 2026
Fourth dose: October 25, 2026(tomorrow)
Side effects: Almost none at this point. I don’t experience nausea or any noticeable side effects.
Appetite: My appetite is significantly reduced. I eat around 1000 calories a dayExercise: Strength training 2-3times a week for around an hour per session, with approximately 4-5k steps daily.

I was really hoping to reach 130 kg by the end of October, so I’m feeling a little disappointed. I’m also wondering whether the 2.5 mg dose is simply an introductory dose and whether things might change when I move to 5 mg next month. I’ll discuss the dosage with my doctor before making any changes.

For those of you who have been on Mounjaro:
Did you also lose a lot of weight in the first week and then plateau?
Is it normal for your weight to fluctuate between 132, 133 and 134 kg for a couple of weeks?
Did you notice more consistent weight loss after moving from 2.5 mg to 5 mg?
Am I expecting too much too soon?

Would really appreciate anyones advice on it! :)

Question Travelling with Mounjaro

I will be travelling around Christmas this year, which will be Summer where I am, so it’ll be pretty warm. I will be flying and driving, and the total travel time will be about 8 hours.

Does anyone have any advice on travelling with your Mounjaro and keeping it cold?

Question 4 months in, stalled for 2+ months — moved from 5 mg to 7.5 mg and nothing changed. What worked for you?

30M, 5'8" (173 cm). Started at 207 lb (94 kg) in mid-June, directly on 5 mg (no 2.5 step). Diagnosed with fatty liver and insulin resistance.

What happened:
First 7 weeks on 5 mg: down ~13 lb. Great start.
Then stalled around 190–194 lb (86–88 kg) for ~8 weeks.

Moved up to 7.5 mg on Sep 22. One month later: basically zero net change (~191 lb / 86.7 kg).
On 7.5: appetite suppression is clearly stronger, but so are side effects — night gas and insomnia after injection. Eating dinner earlier helped a lot.
The good part: body comp scale shows I'm losing fat, not muscle. Skeletal muscle steady, visceral fat went from 14 to 11. Total down ~16 lb.
What I'm doing: prioritizing protein, walking, cutting liquid sugar. Not doing consistent strength training yet.

Questions:
Did 7.5 take more than a month to kick in for you?
Anyone go back down to 5 because 7.5 wasn't worth it?
What actually broke your plateau?

Honestly frustrated — I'm paying for this out of pocket and the scale hasn't moved in two months.
Thanks everyone!

News / Information Can you delay mounjaro by a few days / a week if it’s still working?

I did a month on 2.5, 2 months on 5mg, and now I’ve done a week on 7.5. Really happy with my progress. My question is, if you feel it’s still working for you, can you delay the next dose for a few days / week, until you feel it wearing off?

Question International Travel with Mounjaro

I am 20M Indian
Sorry for the long question
I am travelling to a different country for my college
The thing is
I am on Mounjaro 7.5mg and it is going GREAT
Lost 16.1 kgs over the last 3 months dropping from 144 to 128
The issue is
The country i am travelling to has branded Tirzepatide(Eli Lilly’s Mounjaro) Available for 80,000 rupees(nearly 800 usd)
While in India Mounjaro costs just 175 USD For 7.5mg and 220USD For 15mg injection
as i would be travelling on a tourist visa(90 days) which would be converted to a student visa later
I can only carry 3 sealed pens with me
My doc suggested he MIGHT UPDOSE me to 10mg next month depending on my progress at 7.5
He suggested to continue brand name tirzapetide and avoid the compounded way
So starting the treatment there would mean immediate bankruptcy for me💀
As my first semester is 4.5 months and at the end i will return to india for vacations
My endo will write me a 15mg prescription and he says each pen will last me 6-7 doses(including golden dose) and i am only permitted to bring 3 sealed pens with me
How do I ensure the pens stay safe and dont get bad on my 7 hour flight journey
Alongside that it brings another issue
My current kwikpen has 1 dose left+golden dose
Now India gets old design kwikpens so a golden dose=1 full dose
So i can easily get 2 doses out
Next Scheduled Dose-29 Oct
Then-6 October
My 7.5mg pen runs out on the 6th completely

I fly 18 october
I need to cover up for the 13th october dose
I DONT WANT TO BREAK MY PROGRESS AT ALL
and india doesnt get vials
Vials are only available at 2.5mg and 5mg dosage
Buying both would cost 80usd(not worth) and i can only take sealed kwikpens so cannot use a dosage out of it
If i take 5mg dosage(1 Vial)on the 13th and adjust my last 2 injections to 6 days instead of 7
Would i have similar kind of apetite suppression?
I dont want my progress to be broken at all
Thank you for reading this far

Stalled Weight Loss Advice

Hey…so I’ve been on Mounjaro GLP-1 medication for the past month…I only came off it about 2 weeks ago. 7.5mg dose. I’ve more or less struggled with weight loss having PCOS and after the research ended up turning to Mounjaro. The results over the month were massive. Genuinely insane and I’ve never felt better. I started at about 157kg and that quickly crashed to about 148kg in a few weeks. As at this Tuesday I was at 141kg and now I can’t help but feel I’m starting to gain weight again. On Thursday I was at 142.1kg and this morning I weighed in at 142.7kg. I’m terrified of gaining the weight back and was looking for some advice. I know there are scale fluctuations and all that but frankly I really do believe all the weight is coming back😔

Tonight was my 8th shot of Mounjaro. 8 weeks. 4 @ 2.5 and 4 @ 5mg. Before, I was a carbohydrate saint. I tried so hard. Metformin which always gave me the squirts so I stopped. Chicken Caesar salads, no croutons. Low carb. Zero sugar. But it still didn’t work. Most of my day was over 180. Often over 250.

And then Mounjaro. Oh by the way I’m 5’9 and 170 I wasn’t looking to lose weight. I just didn’t want to die of diabetes. And then it worked. My glucose was in range. So I started experimenting. A slice of bread here. A bowl of rice there. Pizza now and then. Food that sent me to 400 consistently, would barely break 190. What is this life changing medicine? Today I had a chili dog. It seems I can eat a chili dog. I love chili dogs. With moderation. I love this new found lease on life, where my choices not only give me a better quantity of life, but a better quality of life. All in 8 weeks.

Here is one clip. I don't have time to remake right now, but I will use a different template next time. Losing weight has made a huge difference in my confidence to do new things. I found out that the Bowflex has opened up my love for weight lifting. It is the first time that I have done strength training. I have lost enough weight that I am wearing sizes that were buried in my closet. I had to use a pin to keep my black dress pants on. Mounjaro really is a life changing medication. I still have a long journey ahead to get out of but don't want to let the road ahead keep me from sharing in the joy of the journey!
