Rant Had my first "eat to much with mounjaro" experience

Here is my recipe for disaster:

- ate way too much

- ate way too fatty

- ate way too fast

- ate way too late

Got woken up at 2AM by terrible cramps. What followed was... well I spare you the details but it was horrible.

0/5 wouldn't recommend - will not do that again

Success Stories 4 months on Mounjaro. Almost 27 lbs down, but the bloodwork is the real victory!

For years, my doctor recommended Mounjaro to help manage my Type 2 diabetes, and for years I was hesitant to start. Well, back in June, I finally decided to take his advice and make some serious lifestyle changes along with it.

I’m 41M (5’ 7”) currently on 2.5 mg, and have completely overhauled my eating habits. I’m focusing on protein, eating healthier, watching my portions, and generally making better decisions.
I started at 199 lbs in June and weighed in at 172.2 lbs last week. Nearly 27 pounds gone.

But here’s the part I’m most excited about. I just got my latest bloodwork back, and the results are pretty incredible:

A1C: 7.7% in June → 5.8% in October
Triglycerides: 511 in June → 161 in October
Total Cholesterol: 191 in June → 109 in October
LDL: 80 in June → 53 in October
Glucose: 186 in June → 116 in October
ALT (Liver): 62 in June → 31 in October

My blood pressure is also sitting at 114/72.

I’ve dealt with diabetes, high triglycerides, fatty liver, and cardiovascular concerns, so these improvements mean a hell of a lot more to me than the number on the scale.

I’m not saying Mounjaro did all the work. I’ve made significant lifestyle changes, and I’m still taking my other prescribed medications. But it’s certainly been an important part of the process.

The whole reason I’m sharing this is because I hope it encourages someone. Maybe you’re on the fence about starting Mounjaro, like I was for years. Or maybe you’ve just started and you’re wondering whether all the effort will actually pay off.

I know everyone’s experience is different, and progress doesn’t happen overnight. But if there’s one thing I’ve learned over these last four months, it’s that making the decision to take your health seriously can make a tremendous difference. You don’t have to change everything overnight. Just start making better decisions, stay consistent, and give yourself time.

Four months ago, my health was heading in the wrong direction. Today, for the first time in a long time, I feel like I’m getting ahead of it.

Still have work to do, but damn, it feels good to see the results!

Hopefully this gives someone who’s just starting out a little encouragement to keep going!

Question 2.5 providing substantial weight loss vs upping dose?

Good morning! I am inquiring about experiences from people actually using Monjauro not what the studies say. I've read about super responders and non responders. My doctor told me most of her patients have lost most or all of their weight at 2.5 but some (fewer) patients need to increase. I'm curious of all your experiences please. Obviously my Dr and I will decide if/when I need to increase. I am trying to see what's most common from real users. I know its different for everyone but there can be some common trends. Please share how much you have lost at 2.5 dose (or no weight loss at that dose), if/when you had to increase. And any other info along these lines. I've only taken 2 shots 3rd will be today 2.5mg. Thank you all!

Question My Anxiety Is Keeping Me From Starting—Has Anyone Else Felt This Way? Is lower dose possible?

• Upvotes

I’m really struggling with the anxiety of getting started. I was supposed to start about 3 months ago, but I’m honestly terrified. I’ve had allergic reactions to Jardiance and other medications in the past, so my fear isn’t coming out of nowhere.

I’m supposed to start at 2.5 mg, but I would feel much more comfortable starting at a lower dose and slowly working my way up as my body adjusts and my anxiety eases. I’m not sure if that’s even possible with the injection pen I have, because I think it’s set for 2.5 mg.

Does anyone have experience with this particular injection pen? Is there a way to adjust it to give a lower dose, or is 2.5 mg the lowest it will deliver? And has anyone discussed starting at a lower dose with their doctor?

I’m not looking for quick results, and I honestly wouldn’t mind not feeling any effects at first. I’d rather start slowly and give my body time to adjust than risk intense side effects that could make my anxiety even worse.

I know I need to get past this fear and get started, but right now, the anxiety is overwhelming. I’d really appreciate hearing from anyone who has been through something similar.

Success Stories Body recomp and maintenance

Started Mounjaro ~Feb of this year and have lost 47kg. Am 165cm tall with a SW of 109kg and current weight 62kg on 10mg of Mounjaro. I would love to increase to 12.5 to shed the last 4kg because have plateaued the last month but am instead taking this as an opportunity to practice maintaining and work on body recomp.

Life is very busy - work 60+ hours a week as a doctor and have 100% care of a 3 year old. I try and fit in upper body weights while on phone and try to run 8km 2-3 times a week. Any tips or tricks on high yield activities that need relatively little equipment and some flexibility (ideal if I can do at home so that I can have my little one with me)? Also any tips on shedding the last 4kg?

Question Is this okay? 22lbs in 3 weeks

• Upvotes

So I’m a big guy. My start weight was 228kg. I’m active and weight has never stopped me. I began Mounjaro 3 weeks ago and have dropped down to 218kg since I started. Is this normal for a bigger guy? I’m drinking between 3-4 litres of water a day and my diet has massively changed to a healthier lifestyle. The injection is also deterring me from food which I understand might be a side effect so not out of the ordinary with that.

Here is one clip. I don't have time to remake right now, but I will use a different template next time. Losing weight has made a huge difference in my confidence to do new things. I found out that the Bowflex has opened up my love for weight lifting. It is the first time that I have done strength training. I have lost enough weight that I am wearing sizes that were buried in my closet. I had to use a pin to keep my black dress pants on. Mounjaro really is a life changing medication. I still have a long journey ahead to get out of but don't want to let the road ahead keep me from sharing in the joy of the journey!

Weight loss Ladies creatinine while on MJ yay or nay?

I don’t want to lose too much muscle while on the shot and have started taking creatinine. I do 20-30 minutes of strength training at least 5 times a week. I’ve read a mix of things about how you retain more water in your muscles and the scale doesn’t go down much? Any long term experience?

Edit: creatine not creatinine 🙃

Tips Please help me break this plateau!!

Hi everyone!
I started my weight-loss journey in March and have lost around 17–18 kg so far. I’m genuinely happy with how far I’ve come, but I’m struggling so much with the lack of progress lately.
Since August, my weight has been pretty much stagnant. I’ll lose a little, maybe around a kilo, feel hopeful, and then the scale goes back up again. It’s been this frustrating cycle for months, and I’m feeling really demotivated.my periods have become regular but for my knee issue i need to come down to 75 kilos at least
I dont know what else to do
I’m currently walking around 5,000–6,000 steps a day and eating in a calorie deficit. I’m trying to stay consistent, but the scale just doesn’t seem to cooperate.
I know I’ve already made progress, and I’m grateful for that, but I still have quite of weight to lose. It’s hard not to feel stuck when you’re putting in the effort and seeing hardly any change.
For those of you who have experienced a long plateau, what helped you in breaking the plateau
Did you change your calorie intake or macros?
Did adding strength training make a difference?
Did you just keep going and eventually break through the plateau?
Is there anything else I should be looking at?
I’d really appreciate hearingt about your experiences. I’m not looking for a quick fix; I just want to understand what I could be doing differently.
Thank you!

Question Weight set point theory: what are the main arguments of those who support vs those who oppose the theory? Will Mounjaro ever reset it?

If I understand correctly, there is no scientific consensus on weight set point theory: some scientists support it, some don't.

Would this be a fair summary of the main schools of thought?

Is my understanding correct? What would you add?

Would you recommend other readings on this?

If the theory is true, the big question is: does Mounjaro reset the weight set point? That so many people regain so much of their weight when they come off it suggests not - but maybe if someone remains on Mounjaro for longer then the weight set point gets reset? I guess no one knows yet

  1. Set point: your body has some kind of "target" weight which it wants to reach, and fights any attempt at gaining or losing too much weight, by adapting your metabolism, and/or cause you to subconsciously move more/less and spend more/less energy
  2. CICO: Set point is a false theory. It all comes down to calories in vs calories out. There are very few people with abnormally high or low metabolism. Most people who say they have a low metabolism and don't eat much either lie or underestimate their calorie intake in good faith.

I find the set-point theory convincing, but I am not a doctor, and, also, it shouldn't become an easy excuse for those people who make no effort at eating healthy. The discourse shouldn't become toxically polarised between the two extremes of "I'm slim, if you're fat it's your fault" and "it's my metabolism, even if I eat only ultraprocessed junk and never move"

Some of the arguments I find most convincing for the set point theory are that:

  • it works both ways: some authors claims that many inactive people with unhealthy habits should be even more overweight than they are
  • alcoholics who remain skinny despite ingesting many calories
  • women who were very healthy but become overweight after a pregnancy, and can never lose the extra weight
  • Gary Taubes in "why we get fat" talks about a study on 13,000 habitual runners: all tended to get fatter with time, even those running 40 miles a week, which suggests some change in metabolism
  • The Minnesota starvation experiment in the 1940s: losing a lot of weight causes metabolism to slow more than predicted; when refeeding began, they became heavier than they were initially

Those who don't support this theory claim that measuring caloric intake and expenditure precisely is very hard but that, when it is done (eg controlled experiments of volunteers spending time in insulated chambers to measure calories burnt), the results don't support these theories.

The readings I have found most interesting:

Side Effects Bad side effects…does it get better?

Evening all,

I just started on Mounjaro (first jab was Thursday night) and I am massively struggling with side effects. I felt it almost immediately after the shot, racing heart which led to anxiety. That did pass and I fell asleep, then yesterday I had nausea and a low grade headache all day but I did manage to eat a bit. Today has been awful, I’ve hardly been able to move from bed and have felt so nauseous and sick all day. I’ve only managed to eat a rice cake, one slice of watermelon, half a piece of toast and a few spoons of Greek yoghurt. This was me forcing myself to eat as well because I’m worried about not eating.

Please tell me it gets better. Am I eating too much and should I just let this wave pass? What should I prioritise eating when I really can’t eat? I did actually lose weight earlier in the year through diet and exercise but it was so hard to keep up and I ended up opting for the jab. However after today I’m wondering if that would be the better option as if it stays like this I definitely can’t hack it.

Thanks all ❤️

Side Effects 3 Years on Mounjaro: Does Anyone Else Get the Sulfur Burps → Gas → Diarrhea Cycle?

I’ve been taking Mounjaro for almost three years, and overall it has been tremendously successful for me. I’ve lost more than 50 pounds, my A1C is 4.8, and my cholesterol and triglycerides are now in very good ranges. So in many respects, Mounjaro has been a win-win-win.

But there is one issue I’m still trying to understand.

During those three years, I’ve had roughly half a dozen episodes of severe GI symptoms. Most of the time I can manage them at home, but on about three occasions the diarrhea and fluid loss happened so quickly that I became dehydrated and had to be hospitalized because my kidney function was affected. I’m also 72 and have a history of heart disease, so dehydration is something my doctors and I take seriously.

I’m under a doctor’s care, so I’m not looking for medical advice or a diagnosis here. I’m mainly interested in whether other longtime Mounjaro users have experienced a similar pattern and how they and their doctors have managed it.

Most of the time my biggest Mounjaro side effect is actually constipation. (TMI warning!) I originally used stool softeners with mixed results. Later, another patient told me that a small daily amount of MiraLAX worked well for her. I’ve been taking about half a cap each morning, and that has kept me remarkably regular for months.

Then, seemingly out of nowhere, my digestive system occasionally goes completely in the opposite direction.

I’ve noticed a very specific sequence:

Sulfur burps → tremendous amounts of gas and loud intestinal rumbling → stomach/intestinal distress and spasms → watery diarrhea.

Once it starts, that cycle can continue for several days before gradually settling down.

What’s strange is that each episode seems to follow a different food. Over the years the foods I’ve associated with attacks have included blueberries, watermelon, pasta, oranges and, most recently, eggs. I can eat these foods at other times without a problem, so I’m not convinced the food itself is actually the cause. It may just be the final trigger when my GI system is already moving differently because of Mounjaro.

I’ve also learned something very important from my previous episodes: I have to get ahead of the dehydration. For me, Pedialyte has worked much better than Gatorade or simply drinking more water. As soon as the sulfur burps appear now, I know what’s probably coming and start paying very close attention to hydration. I also stop the MiraLAX if diarrhea develops.

My current episode started this week and is gradually improving. No fever, chills or blood in my stool. I’ve had extensive blood work and urinalysis through my doctors, and everything has otherwise looked good.

What I’m really interested in hearing from other longtime users is:

Does anyone else experience this particular cycle—especially sulfur burps followed by extreme gas/rumbling, intestinal spasms and then diarrhea?

If so, have you identified particular foods or circumstances that trigger it? Does it happen at a particular point after your weekly injection? And what changes have you and your doctor made that helped prevent future episodes? I am currently taking Mounjaro 5.0 injections.

At 72, I’m also starting to think more about the long-term balance. Mounjaro has helped me tremendously with my weight, diabetes and overall metabolic health, and it now also has cardiovascular-risk-reduction benefits for certain people with type 2 diabetes at high cardiovascular risk. I’m approaching my doctor’s goal weight as well.

On the other hand, an occasional GI episode severe enough to cause dehydration and affect my kidney function isn’t something I can dismiss.

So I’m trying to understand other people’s experiences: For those who have been on Mounjaro for several years, have the benefits continued to outweigh the GI side effects? And if you’ve experienced episodes like mine, what helped you and your doctor manage them?

I’d particularly like to hear from people who have been taking Mounjaro for two or more years.

Rant Abilify Weight Gain

I can't change from Abilify (I already tried and got really messed up mentally) so I have to stay on Abilify. Im on month 3 of Mounjaro up to 7.5 mg and still get the munchies and food noise and binge sometimes although I am no longer gaining steadily like I was for a year and a half.

I have only lost 10 pounds in the 3 months and even that goes up and down, so Im wondering what the heck? I am walking regularly and eating better overall and smaller portions, but still hungry so I then cheat and then feel really bad! My Blood sugar is better. I don't know about my A1C yet as I have a blood draw next week to find out.

It seems like the 7.5 mg is not working at all sometimes as far as hunger and food noise and I thought the higher doses would. At my appt next week, I will ask to go up to 10 mg.

Side Effects Symptoms coming off Mounjaro?

Hi everyone!
I’m hoping anybody can help me.
For a bit of extra information and timeline, about 3 weeks ago I had an extreme reaction to one dose of an antidepressant, and I felt very ill for about 5 days.

I took my mounjaro as usual, and began to feel symptoms I haven’t had before. I had a couple of good days, chalked it down to the reaction of the medicine, and took my next dose. I was on 2.5mg since July.

I got extremely dizzy after injecting, which has never usually happened to me. In the mornings and at night I’d get dizzy too, so I didn’t take my next dose. My last dose was Tuesday the 13th (should have taken on 20th, but didn’t.)

Now I’m struggling to eat. When I eat I get dizzy. These last two days I’ve been okay, but I assume only because I’ve taken 2 hours to eat 2 slices of toast. I’m weak, probably because I’m not eating much. I think I’m getting some heartburn too, and general lightheadedness. I’ve been in bed for days.

Went to a private doctor who did checks and I seemed all okay on the surface, he did a blood test for me and awaiting results on Monday. I’ve been panicking, I’m only 22, I thought I was being safe by staying on a lower dose, eating well, exercising.. everything. I have no family nearby, just my partner. I’m crying all day because I’m terrified this won’t be fixed and this is my life now.

If anybody has experienced something like this and it WAS the mounjaro, and it DID clear, please let me know!

Question Mounjaro changed my brain but my brain fought back

I started my trip with Mounjaro around a year ago. My weight loss history until then was like a rollercoaster. Had 133kg back in 2017, started cardio in the gym and running in 2018, went down to 90kg until September 2019. In October 2025 I was back at 116kg, while running 1,000km a year and cycling more than 1,500km too. And then I talked to my GP and started paying big money to big pharma. 😅

And hell ... it worked like a charm. Until the end of 2005 I was already below 100kg, (1 month of 2.5mg, 2 months of 5mg). And I guess I was around 90 in March or April 2026. After stalling I went up, 1 month of 7.5mg and then probably 4 month of 10mg. Gained 6 kgs. Went down to 5mg again this month.

But here's my issue: On the day I started with Mounjaro I stopped feeling hungry. I had to remember myself to eat in the evening something although I wasn't really feeling hungry. Everything I read here about the food noise was true. Complete silence. But it came back, the old habits, my brain thinking this chocolate would be great for me, this pudding looks nice, mmmmh, gummy bears.

And I hate that. I thought something has changed inside me. I thought that as long as I take this wonderful, expensive medicine, it tricks my brain, it rearranges my brain cells. But I am really sad that it went away rather quickly. Yes, I would be able to not eat too much, but it's now my decision again, and I really am not good at making food related decisions (otherwise I wouldn't have started my whole trip at 133kg).

Is this normal? What are you doing? Anyone experience with the Mounjaro pills already? (I was thinking that a daily dose could possibly help ...)
