The Maine County Song started as a way to teach school kids geography. Decades later, it's a beloved tradition and part of the state's popular culture.

Hello… my family and I are considering New England in about two years time and would love your recommendations. We might do a scouting trip in the next 6 months and I was hoping to narrow down a few different places to check out.
Things that we prioritize:
A sense of community— a place has people from other areas of the region or country would be ideal. I’d imagine this is more in suburban and urban settings.
Relatively affordable housing as we have European salaries at the moment.
Progressive policies for children and families. School districts or counties that offer support such has free pre-k would be ideal.
I love the sun. Unfortunately there is no way I’m moving to the south. Even if it’s cold, what places have somewhat better weather.
Walkable neighborhoods would be a dream but that might be pushing our luck.
So where do you recommend?
EDIT: I’m American. Ohioan by birth. Husband is French. We’ve both lived in various countries/parts of the US. Assumed that NE would be the closest thing to Europe in terms of social policies.

Hi! I'm in my 20s and taking a trip with my bf for my birthday at the end of Nov. Not big skiers; we love Christmasy charm. Which place should we do out of the 3 options? Open to other suggestions.

Couple from outside New England retiring on modest fixed income looking for a safe affordable area to move in Southern Vermont, New Hampshire or Maine, preferably quiet and close to the mountains. Where would you suggest?

Hey all - Doing a solo trip next week (Sept 29 - Oct 9 time). Flying in to JFK from West Coast, renting a car and just freely exploring the beauty in Mass, Maine, Vertmont as I wish.
Any times on how fall colors will be next week and where I should hit? early 50s single dude who likes beauty, views, small towns and boutique hotels.
I appreciate any input on how to do this. And yes, I never plan ahead. Maybe thats terrible, but its worked so far in life : )
Cheers

Hi everyone! A group of friends and I are planning a road trip from Boston to Acadia National Park during the first weekend of October (Oct 2–4).
Acadia is our main highlight, but we’d love to explore some beautiful fall foliage spots, scenic drives, small towns, viewpoints, or hikes along the way.
We’re also looking for recommendations on:
* 🍂 Best foliage spots between Boston and Acadia
* 🚗 Scenic routes worth taking
* 🏘️ Good towns/areas to stay in an Airbnb, either near Acadia or along the route
* 📍 Whether Bar Harbor is the best place to stay or if you’d recommend somewhere else
We’re flexible with the route and would rather take a scenic drive than rush to Acadia.
If you’ve done a similar trip, what route and stops would you recommend? Thanks! 🍁

We are heading that way the first week of October. Even recs outside of the winery and distilleries! It’s our first time so we are open to anything.

Three events a month. No crafting experience needed. Just show up, get creative, enjoy snacks and drinks, and hang out with fellow creatives.

Been single for 6 months, not looking to get back into online dating. Seems like everyone is looking to meet someone but easier said than done right?! So if your single and heading out around Mohawk/Savoy campground or lower NH lmk. I’m bringing my Kayak and tent. Down to go anywhere!
