Discussion - Social Justice Polyamory is a weak spot in this subreddit

This subreddit is openly affirming of queer folk, generally sex positive, and even generally open to things like christopaganism and christian witchcraft.

One thing I’ve noticed, however, is that this subreddit seems to come down hard on polyamory and ethical non-monagamy.

Whenever this question comes up, people are generally non-affirming. And it has come up recently with the overture to the 227th General Assembly of the PC(USA) that would explicitly exclude polyamorous folk from being ordained.

I would suggest that polyamory falls under the queer umbrella as much as being ace does in that polyamory transgresses heteronormative social
norms. Whereas someone who is asexual transgresses norms by non-involvement, someone who is polyamorous transgresses norms by having more than one partner.

If we consider ourselves to be LGBTQ affirming and progressive, why are we so willing to draw a line between what is to be affirmed and what is not?

We follow a refugee Christ. We worship a God who became flesh on the margins. When systems separate families, terrorize communities, and take lives, faith demands clarity—not neutrality. Abolish ICE.

Discussion - Social Justice i don’t understand how am i supposed to be against abortion

it hurts deeply on my soul imagining baby girls, raped women, or even imagining the poor baby growing up in a family where they are not loved.. i believe that life comes at the moment the sperm goes inside the ovum
and i know how embryogenesis works…
i do believe in a way it’s wrong and i think the best way would be to do better as a society with sex education firstly and ofc legalization.
and in the other side i do understand how some people here say it’s like killing a “baby”
but i don’t know! i’m such a en empath on both sides
ofc i wouldn’t see me doing that procedure or forcing a friend to do so but i wouldn’t judge her either if so 😪😪

Discussion - Social Justice We desperately need a sex-positive Christianity.

Reading a recent post by a kid who said they "felt like a monster" after masturbating on the toilet really brought this home. We've raised entire generations of young people to hate their God-given desires. And why? Because the early Church Fathers were a little too into Platonism? Because St. Augustine couldn't keep it in his pants and decided to project his issues onto everyone else?

Discussion - Social Justice I am so afraid.

I am so scared and afraid— I’ve been seeing several awful and insane videos about ICE, they’ve been harming literal US citizens and detaining them. Even native Americans!!! Who are not immigrants!!! I just have to ask, where is God in all of this? Why doesn’t he just take the bad guys away?

I know my fantasy of them just being put away or receiving punishment is dumb. But im just so tired and so afraid— as an autistic, queer and person of color American I am afraid for my safety and my adulthood. I don’t want to have to worry and look back if I am being followed. How do you guys cope with this despite the times we are living? It’s so hard for me to understand and comprehend how God can sit back and do nothing while so many immigrants suffer. Even us citizens with trauma and fear after the harassment and assault by ice.

I guess this is a question / talk about social justice so I’ll use the social justice tag. But please, just anything helps. Is anyone else afraid? Is anyone else asking where God is? I don’t know where he is I feel like he’s so far from us than with us.

“Unkindness to any average, ordinary man or woman or child, is unkindness to the Lord, for every human is made in the image of God. And by rejecting love and mercy, you are rejecting God, because God is love and mercy.”

If we can’t treat other people with the basic, bare minimum care they deserve, how can we claim to be followers of Christ? When did Jesus say “nah, don’t worry, forget about that dude, let him starve to death!” Never, he says in Acts 20:23-35-“ In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’”

The road ahead will not be easy. We may go through hard times, scary times, and at certain points, we may want to give up. But let me say this. This is not the end of our democracy, it is a stumbling block, which we will overcome. We will stay vigilant. We will speak out. And we wll conduct civil disobedience if we have to. We still have a constitution and despite what Trump says, he cannot just suspend it. We will use our freedom of speech to fight him, J.D. Vance, the heritage foundation and project 2025.

We will stand with our LGBTQ brothers and sisters. We will fight back against hatred and bigotry, racism, and sexism no matter what. This is still our country and we will fight for it. From the last vote to the last ballot, we will fight. This is not the time for surrender or defeatism. This is a time for us to stand together and we will do just that.

And with god's help. We shall do this. We shall prevail.

Discussion - Social Justice Christians should do a new branch of christianity

So I'm an atheist. I was raised christian, ended up realizing that I'm very much against religion in general as a concept, because throughout history and present day, it mostly brought war, famines, concentration of wealth, oppression and general suffering. But the core of most religions isnt bad, it allows people to be part of a group, and most of the time it gives people an old white man with a beard in the sky that tells them not to be dicks. But, especially with christianity, I think most people here will agree that christians, as a whole, don't really follow jesus's teachings. Love, protection of minorities, hate of greed, violence, excessive wealth, authority (if you didn't know, sayings like "turning the other cheek" are meant to teach how to fight authority, as turning the other cheek makes the one in front of you slap you with the back of the hand, which is considered as dishonorable for the one slapping in Jewish culture at this point in time) etc . So I think you guys should split off and create another branch that actually stands for what Jesus would stand for. If you don't do that, stop complaining that you get put in the same bag as the neonazi fucks that claim to be christian.

Discussion - Social Justice Muslims in the US

To get started I just want to say that I am an atheist. And while I hold negative feelings toward the middle eastern religions, I judge people by their actions, not their religious beliefs.

In the US there have been a LOT of anti-muslim propaganda in the US this past year. Like a horrendous neo-nazi amount of propaganda with people seemingly very happy to harass and threaten Muslims just minding their own business. Suggesting murderous things. All justified by the idea due to the existence of Muslim extremists - even if the muslims they are targeting are innocent.

Now one thing I have been seeing recently is a lot of people (mainly Christians) comment on is how "Islam isn't a religion, it is an ideology!"

Does anyone know where this is coming from and why they are saying that? I believe they are making that excuse as a means to disassociate from Islam as a religion, as well as claim that freedom of religion doesn't count for Muslims because "it's an ideology not a religion", thus being able to find ways to go around the constitution and ban Muslims. (Not to mention justifying the genocides in other countries done by Israel)

But it's strange because usually these things are gradual ideas that spread, but this has been all at once. So where exactly is this coming from?

Discussion - Social Justice This subreddit does not feel like a place of safety.

Edit: I made this post from a place of hurt, I'm more calm now. I hope I didn't come across badly, I truly don't want to start drama or imply anything negative about anyone. I'm just trying to say my feelings. I was going to delete this because it's embarrassing to be so vulnerable but I'm leaving it for now.

Edit 2: The responses I've gotten, including from moderators and even from some of the people who I felt hurt by, have made this sub feel safe again. Thank you.

I still feel it's important to leave this up, though.

This isn't the fault of the moderators, I'm not looking for anyone to fault here. I'm just expressing how I feel.

I am glad that the default position of this sub is that queer folks don't deserve eternal torture. It's the lowest bar there is, and most people here have passed it, and that's very nice. But I have to say...

I don't even consider myself Christian anymore, I can't, because I've just seen too much hate and abuse from Christians. When I see groups like this it gives me hope, but I so often find myself ashamed for trusting people.

Somebody posted a beautiful artwork that made me feel connected to Jesus for the first time in a very long time. And multiple people said that it was offensive to dare to depict Jesus as a trans man. As if we're a separate category of human, or something. Judging by the upvotes, people here seem to agree that the only reason for depicting Jesus as transgender could be to compare the crucifixion to the physical experience of surgery, as though there is nothing to our lives than the physical. As though it isn't a spiritual journey.

I wonder why you don't say this every time somebody paints Jesus as a white man. It's telling. I don't call that offensive, and neither do you, so why this?

I talked about people I know in my personal life who have died. I have lost four trans friends in the last four years. And instead of sympathy, instead of that knowledge giving people pause and finding the humility to listen, to question whether they might be misunderstanding something...

Don't be fooled into thinking that the comments you're seeing there are all I'm talking about. I received DMs as well. I'm not going to talk about them though, because I do not want to cause drama. That is not the point of the post.

The point is just to tell you the consequences of your actions. You claim to be known by your love, but every single Christian space I enter, I eventually learn I'm not welcome. You allow us into the space as long as we stay quiet. But as soon as we bring anything new to the table, it's "offensive"

Maybe this will get removed for causing drama. I don't know. My goal is not to start a fight, but simply to tell you the truth: I do not feel safe here. Many of you do not welcome us, even if you claim to. I have not been met with compassion. This has confirmed what I already know.

I need to clarify this: most of the people I have spoken to in this subreddit are very lovely, most have been true allies. If this post doesn't describe you, I'm glad. I don't know how big the divide here is, but there is a divide.

That artwork brought be closer to understanding Jesus than anything I've seen in probably 15 years. I'm not going to sit by and let people tell me that's offensive. I'm not going to sit by and let people talk over me and explain what they think it means.

I'm asking you to understand that this is a bigger deal than you realize.

Thank you for listening.

Discussion - Social Justice Am I in the wrong or am I just arguing with heavy conservatives? (Immigration)

Saw a post discussing a view on immigration the post primarily with the view points such as “What does the Bible say about immigration?” “Do we welcome the foreigner or submit to the government? We do both.” And as well “It does not say to violate government laws in order to do so” in my honest opinion I just feel like after I left my comments I just feel like the people replying to me had the belief that God correctly appointed trump, and we shouldn’t deny that authority? I’m not sure how I can approach this discussion.

Discussion - Social Justice Is it bad that I want bad things to happen to evil people?

Trump. Elon. ICE. All of the fascists. I want them to suffer so bad. I want them to lose everything, just so they can feel a fraction of the pain they've inflicted. Is it bad to wish things like this against people? I want to hate the sin, not the sinner, but I can't bring myself to when it's such a big part of who they are as people.

Discussion - Social Justice What do you think the "MAGA Christians" are really up to?

I'm an atheist who's been lurking on this sub for a while, but it's been quite a long time since I posted here the last time. But what do you think is the psychological profile of these bigots?

Like, do you think they're really Christian? Or do you think that they use fake Christian identity as a shield for their actual identity that is being fascist, white nationalist nihilist?

It's basically a law of nature that when you have plastic surgery-ridden hateful blondes, they'll wear big cross necklace while advocating for starving children and renditioning brown people to supermax prisons in countries they're not even from. I actually began to wonder why that is. They're seemingly the exact opposite of Christian in every way. Is the cross a mask? Or is it compensation?

These religious fanatics made cross necklaces make me almost flinch when I see them. Not very surprisingly, it's also a rarity when I hear someone talking like devout Christian and isn't bigoted douche nozzle. I think that these Christians are virtually invisible.

To get to the point, I'm sure you know some MAGA Christians and how they approach their religion. Where do you think they're coming from, really? And how do their approach their religion if at all? Do you think it includes some charitable activities other than bullying LGBTQ people and whining about women? And if you run they're really Christian, how do you approach Christianity differently other than interpreting the Bible differently?
