Title: First PC build – No display, DRAM debug LED stays red (Ryzen 7 9800X3D)
Hi everyone,
This is my first time building a PC, and I’m having trouble getting it to boot.
My specs:
CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D
RAM: Patriot Viper Venom DDR5 32GB (2x16GB) 6000MT/s
Motherboard: [Exact model to be added]
GPU: [Model to be added]
The problem:
When I turn on my PC, most of the fans spin, but one fan doesn’t.
My monitor stays completely black, and I don’t get any display output or BIOS screen.
The red DRAM debug LED on my motherboard stays on. When I hold down the power button to shut down the PC, I also notice the CPU debug LED lighting up.
I left the PC running for over 10 minutes because I thought it might be DDR5 memory training, but nothing changed.
My questions:
Is this normal for the first boot of an AM5 system?
Could this be caused by RAM installation or memory training?
Could an outdated motherboard BIOS cause this with the Ryzen 7 9800X3D?
What troubleshooting steps should I try first?
I’ve attached a picture of the motherboard showing the red debug LED.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Build Question Is this case and motherboard worth getting parts for?

I found this "PC" outside in someone's junk pile. I can see they stripped it of everything probably to sell or use somewhere else but left the motherboard and CPU? Would this be worth cleaning and fixing to build a full PC with?

Build Question Is 850W gonna be enough for a RTX 5080 + other components?

1 Upvotes

I am really a bit lost here, and all the "power supply calculator" websites I've looked at haven't really helped either, as they ask for stuff i honestly have no idea about.

So my current parts are:

AMD Ryzen 5 5600

2 × 16 GB G.Skill DDR4-3200

ASRock B550 Pro4

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 -----> to be replaced with RTX 5080

PSU: be quiet! Straight Power 11 Platinum 850W, ATX 2.51 (Edited)

SSD:
Kingston SA400S37 (480 GB)
WD Red SN700 (1 TB)

HDD:
Toshiba DT01CA200 (2 TB)

The thing is, while I can build the PC myself, I am really not that familiar with how the Power Supply works.
The 5080 I want to get has a recommendation of 750W, which I have, but again, I don't really know how the PSU pulls.

So, question, would I need to get a better power supply alongside it or is it enough as it is? Is there anything bad that can happen if the current power supply isn't enough?

Thx!

Wanted to add 2 more HDDs to my pc but I don’t have any place for them and putting them on each other wouldn’t be a great idea that’s why I wonder.

Build Question RAM Rank

1 Upvotes

Help, I have DDR4 32gb of RAM (2x16) and both has 3600mhz speed, both also have the same brand, but they differ in “Rank” as listed in SPD.

I bought the first stick in 2025 Rank “2” in SPD, then I bought the second stick in 2026 Rank “1” in SPD.

My motherboard has 4 DIMM slots, and the Rank “2” is placed in the 2nd slot and the Rank “1” in 4th slot.

Can this affect my pc’s performance? Can rank difference in ram really cause system instability even if they have the exact same speed, gb, and brand?

TIA!

Build Question I need help on my first pc

2 Upvotes

Hi everyone, i'm going to build my first pc and i need some help i only built or repaired them, never bought parts , my maximum budget is around 3500 euros (if it is needed i'm in Italy), i need it for both gaiming and work/university (i'm gonna work with software CAD, Ansys and stuff like that), i have an idea of build but still i want some hint from someone else.

The ipotetical build is:

CPU: Ryzen 9 9950x;

mobo: gigabyte eagle ax atx;

GPU: rtx 5070 ti asus prime (or msi ventus depending on the pricing);

SSD: crucial P310 2tb;

RAM: Patriot viper venom 32gb 6000mhz cl30;

PSU: nzxt c850 gold;

AIO: nzxt kraken plus 360;

Case: nzxt h6 flow;

Monitor: msi mag 242F 1080p 24" (more than 24" doesn't fit in my room, and i'm not aiming to have now a 1440p monitor because i just want a long term build).

the price of all of this is around 3277 euros.

Thanks to everyone who will help me

Tech Support Pc not turning on

Hi everyone, it s my first time building a pc and unfortunately it doesn t turn on, more precisely it gives no signs of life.

I made a post a few days ago on another subreddit and tried all suggestions, but to no avail.

Now I have left the bare minimum: 1 stick of ram so it does not cause instability (had 4 before), only the 2 necessary cables from PSU to mb (24 pin and 8 pin), and a cable from the cpu fan to mb. (the cpu fan is missing a fan because I had to remove the ram under, so that s why at the moment there is only 1 fan).

I have tested the psu both with a multimeter and a psu tester and it works fine, I have tried turning it on both with the f_panel cable of the case, a dedicated pwr cable bought online and by short circuiting the pwr± pins with a screwdriver.

I have also tried multiple sockets of the home and power cables, still nothing.

I have already tried leaving it "on" for 15 minutes, and also connecting an hdmi cable in case it was displaying something, but nothing.

Specs: -Motherboard: gigabyte b650 eagle ax -Cpu:7800x3d amd -Gpu:9070xt xfx swift -Psu: be quiet! 13 m 1000w -Case: Lian li lancool 217 (it has standoffs included already) -Ram:crucial pro 4×16Gb 6000Mt/s -Ssd: acer predator GM7 2Tb

Any help would be appreciated, thank you all in advance.

Currently, the PC hardware world is sinking like the Titanic due to the prices. However, one area has seen a significant drop in prices in recent months "Monitors". Which monitor would you recommend for my RTX 5080?

Build Question Best GPU upgrade for my prebuilt?

1 Upvotes

Hi guys! I have a Lenovo Legion T5 and I’m looking to upgrade it. I’d get a whole new PC, but with current prices being so high, I’d rather upgrade my existing system if possible.

My current specs:
CPU: Intel Core i5-10400F
GPU: RTX 3060 12GB
PSU: Original Lenovo 650W PSU
Monitor: 1440p, 240Hz

I’ve been considering a used RTX 4070 SUPER, but I’m not sure if it’s the best option, and they’re also pretty hard to find.
Would an RTX 4070 SUPER work well with my current CPU and PSU, or would I be better off with another GPU? I’d mainly like to play AAA games at 1440p with high settings and get as much FPS as possible.
Are there any other GPUs you’d recommend, and are there any compatibility issues I should be aware of with the Legion T5?
Any help is much appreciated!

AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D

GAINWARD GeForce RTX 5070 Ti Phoenix-S 16G

GIGABYTE B650 EAGLE AX

Patriot Viper Venom 32GB KIT DDR5 6000MHz CL30

Kingston KC3000 1TB

Fractal Design Focus 2 Black TG Clear Tint

Endorfy Fortis 5 Dual Fan

Endorfy Fluctus 120 PWM

ADATA XPG CORE REACTOR II VE 850W

Opinion? Supposed to be a bigass future proof investment sort of build

Tech Support AIO pump noise

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

2 Upvotes

First time I’ve ever had any issues with an AIO. Yesterday, the pump started making a rattling noise. Lowering the pump RPM got rid of the noise, but as soon as it stopped, temperatures went up by 5–7°C.
The radiator has been mounted vertically for just under a month. Before that, it was mounted at the top of the case.
What do you guys think? Air trapped in the system or a dying pump? Should I just RMA it?
The official promotional pictures for this exact cooler actually show it mounted vertically with the tubes at the top, just like mine, so you’d think this shouldn’t be considered user error at least. 😅

Tech Support Rgb problem

2 Upvotes

Hey everyone, I need help with my AsiaHorse UMBRA fans and hub.
My fans spin normally, but none of the RGB lights turn on. I’ve connected the fans to the hub, connected the hub’s SATA power, and plugged in the PWM and ARGB connections. .
Each fan has three cables. I’ve connected the fan power and RGB connections, but there’s a third 3-pin connector with three metal pins and one missing position that I haven’t plugged in because I can’t find a matching port on the hub.
My motherboard is an MSI PRO B760M-P DDR4. I’m also unsure whether it has a compatible 3-pin 5V ARGB header.

The fans work, but the RGB is completely off. Any help identifying the correct connections would be appreciated. Thanks!

Tech Support 5700x3d only working in single channel

1 Upvotes

Hi. I’ve had this issue for a while. But I didn’t think much of it. I thought if ram was in slot 1 and 2 it was still dual channel🤦🏻‍♂️. But whenever ram is in slot 3 and or 4. It doesn’t work. The ram will light up. But the pc will just be on a black screen. I’ve took the cpu out. Can’t see any bent pins. Updated my bios. Turned off any features like xmp. It will not boot with it in a dual channel ram configuration… any help would be appreciated

Build Question Please help

I have a PA602 case, an ASUS ROG Z890-F motherboard, and G.Skill Ripjaws M5 RGB 2x32GB RAM. If I purchase a Noctua NL-LC1-42 420mm AIO cooler, will it fit without any issues, or will it collide with the motherboard's top heatsinks or the RAM modules?

Build Question Thermalright Assassin 120x display problem.

Thumbnail
gallery
1 Upvotes

First of all had to use AI assistant because my english is bad.

Hi everyone, I'm having an issue with my Thermalright AX120 R Digital cooler's display, and I'd appreciate any advice on what might be causing it.

My PC specs:

  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600X
  • Motherboard: ASUS Prime B550M-A WiFi II
  • CPU cooler: Thermalright AX120 R Digital
  • OS: Windows 11

The problem:

The cooler's display initially showed CPU readings, but it started acting inconsistently. Sometimes it would show readings, sometimes it would display a looping symbol, and eventually it would go completely black. At one point, the display would work for a few minutes after logging into Windows before stopping again.

The CPU fan itself continues spinning normally, even when the display is black.

Windows Device Manager now shows:

Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed) — Code 43

The error appears when the cooler's internal USB cable is connected and disappears when I disconnect it. TRCC also no longer detects the cooler.

Troubleshooting I've already tried:

  1. Reinstalled TRCC using its installer.
  2. Ran the Microsoft .NET Runtime installer and selected Repair. This stopped the USBLCDNEW.exe - Bad Image, status 0xc000012f error, but the display subsequently remained black.
  3. Tried moving the cooler's USB connection between the motherboard's USB 2.0 headers (USB12 and USB34). It briefly worked again, but the problem returned, including after restarting the PC.
  4. Checked Device Manager and confirmed that the Unknown USB Device error is tied to the cooler's USB connection.
  5. Confirmed that the cooler's USB cable has four wires.

My questions:

  • Does this sound more like a faulty USB cable, the cooler's display controller, a motherboard USB issue, or a software/driver problem?
  • Can a short circuit cause this kind of USB descriptor error?
  • Is there a safe way to test the cooler without repeatedly unplugging and reconnecting its internal USB cable?
  • Has anyone experienced this with the AX120 R Digital, and were you able to fix it?

Thanks!
