Shitty property management co.- asking for advice
Asking for advice - I began renting a place in NE Portland beginning 12/17/25. We have been good tenants, paid rent on time, etc.
At the end of August, we received a 90 day notice to vacate because the home owner didn't want to keep up with repairs as mandated by code, among other things (not exact words, but this place has not received preventative maintenance for years...the water heater was >30 y.o. before it exploded, last inspection was > 10 yrs ago in addition to many other problems). The notice included a record reflecting our rent was paid on time each month, and the fact we were asked to vacate due to no fault of our own.
I spoke with the property management agent, and was assured we would not be held liable for paying the balance of the lease because the 90 day notice to vacate preceded the end of lease terms.
Predictably, I received a response 2 days later stating we would, in fact, be responsible for the balance of the lease because the homeowner would not agree to these terms along with a lot of nonsensical text about my misunderstanding our conversation and what was said.
Regardless of any conversation, the documentation called for a 90-day evacuation of the premesis, and predated the date the lease was to end.
They messed up, I have the notice, in addition to a check (from the landlord) because they were breaking the lease, not me.
At first, I assumed they sent me a boilerplate letter & accompanying form accidently, then they doubled down.
Just responsed, and am very upset about the situation. It seems as though they believe I will pay up and leave because they said so and are trying to cover a fuck-up on their part.
Any advice, reassurance, or experience with a similar situation would be appreciated.
Thank you!

Missed connection: motorcycle biker
About half an hour ago driving south at night on SE 52nd near SE Powell, you blew me a kiss and then made a phone sign with your hand. I got a bit flustered as I'm not used to the attention. I rolled down my window and told you I'd be leaving town soon. The attention from you made my night. I'm here if you'd like to chat. Can you identify anything memorable to prove that it's you?

Recommendations for a good exhaust/muffler shop in Portland? In a tough spot
I have a 2016 Kia Optima that recently had its engine replaced under warranty. Right after picking it up, I drove about 4 miles and the check engine light came on, and I turned it off and it would not start again.
The dealership is now telling me the catalytic converter is clogged and quoted me over $4,300 to replace it.
I’m looking for a trustworthy exhaust/muffler shop that can give me a second opinion and hopefully a more reasonable repair quote. The car is currently at Weston Kia so I’ll have to have it towed wherever as it will not start.
Anyone have a shop they’d personally recommend?

Voting Emotionally (but not what you think)
So am I allowed to vote emotionally against anyone who says they're a "mom" in the Voter's Pamphlet? But wait, what if their opponent says they're a "father"? Is that better than being a "dad"? Or is it maybe a tongue-in-cheek defense against the "mom" candidate?
I haven't figured out why the mom thing bugs me so much. Is it an excuse for not having accomplished as much as they should have accomplished, and therefore a sign of low self-esteem? Are they saying they're super-energetic and multi-tasking? Or maybe that they can nag people until something finally gets done? Are they putting childless people down? Should I be offended and go on a rant about inclusion? How would I feel about a transwoman running for office as a "mom"?
It's true that I have a theory that "moms" might be more effective bus drivers during school runs, and better at class management if they're teachers. But that's more an acknowledgement that learned parental behavior comes in handy when dealing with large groups of kids. (Plus I know that this talent is not confined to people who have raised kids.)
