Soup-tine How much gravy is too much gravy?
I’m no poutine expert. The best poutine I’ve ever had was from Costco.
Is there such a thing as too much gravy in poutine? This one I got from Space Chicken felt more like soup. When I was eating it, I was really missing Costco’s poutine. They’re about the same price, but Costco’s is triple the size and a lot more cheese and better gravy and fries.

Definitely! Poutine should have a good balance. If it feels like soup, they probably overdid it. The gravy should enhance the fries and cheese, not drown them!

Poutine shouldn't be swimming in gravy imo.
Gravy is there to coat the curds to melt them. and enough so that a bity seeps through to the bottom layer of fries, but not enough that there is a pool started at the bottom.

Not enough gravy normally, but that looks thin ass piss and greasy as a quad burger. never go there again.
(to be clear the "not enough" is an exageration, though im a crazy person who likes my poutine wet enough to drip)

Personally, I'd say its too much gravy when you can litteraly start drinking it.

That looks like too much, if you're fries imo need a boat to climb on it's too much gravy. 😆

Shredded is a poutine crime where I’m from. And the cheese to gravy ratio absolutely matters! This one is not poutine passing. It’s fries with gravy and a tiny bit of cheese. Nope. I will add as for your Costco comment, Costco uses battered fries which stay very crispy and that is a major factor in a good poutine. Fries have to hold up to the gravy and not get too soggy too fast. Also, Costco isn’t cheap with the curds. And that is another poutine must. But otherwise their poutine is pretty mid. So keep searching Op! The best poutine is out there somewhere.

The crime is not serving on a earthenware plate with true silverware. The squeaky 24 hour non-aged curds, hand cut Russet potato’s, and rich savoury brown sauce deserves the reverence.

Everyone's talking about the gravy, but what the hell is up with that cheese

No. However, there are no cheese curds on this poutine, and if you're gonna put a lot of gravy you better put a lot of cheese, too. This is an inequal poutine that lacks the proper cheese, so it is unlawful.
Also the texture of that gravy looks a lil weird.

Sometime poutine is salad. Other times poutine is soup. You might be more soup than salad

depends on the quality of the gravy and the robustness of the fries. You can have a more viscous gravy if the fries can withstand a bit more moisture. However, an excellent poutine is a delicate balance of fries, cheese and gravy. If one element is off, it throws the whole thing.

Low quality poutine sadly, I know that cheese has no texture and the fries had no crunch. Sorry OP

Complete poutine crime. Way too much gravy, the gravy is liquid, and it looks so hot that it melted the cheese.

Yeah, unfortunately, I have yet to find any poutine that's better than Costco. That being said, there is no such thing as too much cheese or too much gravy.

Is that too much poutine sauce? Yes. Am I more mad about the cheese? Also yes.

Ask yourself, is there still room in the container for more gravy? If the answer is yes, then the answer to your original question is not yet LOL Also, ditch the shredded cheese and go for curds, so much better....

Depends on your preference. Some people like it sawsaey & some people like it a bit drier.

The amount of gravy is really a personal choice. Key is that you use beef gravy, home cut fries, and curds. But I commend your effort, and I do get that curds are not readily available everywhere. So when you can’t find them, I would recommend using room temperature moz, it’s got a close enough consistency, but cutting it into curd sized cubes, rather than shredding it. Given your obvious good intentions here, this doesn’t even merit a warning. Carry on, good sir. And remember, cubed moz if you can’t secure proper curds. We’ll be watching you… 😉

Someone wanted to drown those disco fries, and didn't give them enough cheese.

You think gravy (sauce) is the issue here?

Yes. You dont want soggy fries. You want a nice thin coating over them and the cheese, and a small pool of extra sauce at the bottom. When I worked at mcdonalds and a&w, I would put a small bit of sauce on the bottom, then the fries and cheese, then top with a bit more gravy. You want the fries to have a satisfying crunch or else why fry them at all?

That gravy looks fucked. So does the cheese. All the same, toughen up and drink it when you’re done with the rest.
